Well, well , well, seems Indy got busted pumping in crowd noise
http://whodatzone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=24473
http://coloyan.com/society/s110407.html
I wonder if Bill Polian will be kicked off the competition commitee. I wonder if the Colts will lose draft picks. I wonder if Tony Dungy interpreted the rules wrong.
I wonder if it will be swept under the rug cause ol Bill's on the competition commitee.
-
This was brought up in 2005. But nobody was ever nabbed or caught doing it. If it happened then, it will continue to happen. The Steelers played them twice, and in both games it was brought up by Bill Cowher and the Steelers players.

But they just got caught, and it's cheating, what should the penalty be?

15 yards and loss of down.

Not yet, although Greg Aiello said the league is looking into it, but if the audio isn't proof enough, then I guess watching two planes flying into skyscrapers isn't either
-
Just by watching the video I would think it was the network piping in crowd noise. But from what I have read people in the stadium heard it too. Seems like they got caught red handed.

The same penalty as New England gets levied for cheating with the cameras. :aok

I agree, especially where the commish said the video had no impact on the game cause they watched them for eight minutes and there was no contact with the coaching staff, so there was no cheating.
But the crowd noise did have an impact.
People forget, there was no cheating by the Pats. The rule and the commish clearly stated that. Seeming the colts were cheating, it should be just as bad if not worse
-
I have the game on digital video recording, or DVR. I watched it twice last night and there was a few times you could hear the sound drop out. But still hear the players calls. At first I thought it was a bad recording, but in the 3rd quarter you could hear the unmistakable wobble wobble sound of a DVD skipping.
I will go home and watch “listen” to the game again.
Belichick, after the game stated they had no "coach to quarterback " communication, so they went old school and used signals from the sideline, and still kick their collective arse.
-
hear it is boys I found it: at the end of the play you hear the wawawa sound of the old CD going skippy skippy.

Holy Denial Batman! :rofl
Yeah, they were not cheating, that's why Bill Belichick was fined the NFL maximum of $500,000 and the Patriots were ordered to pay $250,000 for spying on an opponent's defensive signals.
:huh

It sounds more like feedback to me.

Deny? The commish said it and the rules state it, I am not denying anything the commish said
Ignorance is bliss Rip, they were not fined for spying on an opponent's signal, show a link where the commish says that.
They were fined for breaking league rules/bylaws, not cheating, as again, the commish stated
If you want to deny what the commish said, be my guest, but that would make you the one who is in denial

And what rule/bylaw was broken?

I'm not a big sports fan, but anytime I've ever watched a big stadium game like football I always thought the crowds seems to noisy.
Pretty funny to think it's the stadiums or TV channels actually pumping in the noise. If these guys did it, then you know damn sure all the others are doing it too.
As for cheating, how is it cheating? As I say I'm not a sports fan so I don't see what it actually helps. Other than maybe giving the players the added bit of crowd support.
Seems more like a ploy to get the crowd more into the game rather than any sort of way to cheat.
-

Look the rule up yourself, if , that is, you really want to know.
You can tape from designated(by the league and in the rule) areas. You can tape the whole field, including the sideline, which includes the coaches. But you cannot tape from "the sideleine, coaches booth(s), or the locker room".
This is to make sure the coaches do not have access to the tape during the game
And again, the league watched them for eight minutes to see if the coaching staff had access to the photographer, which didn't happen, which is why Goodell stated it had no impact on the game.
The fine was for filming in a spot the league didn't want them to.
Are you understanding, or are you going to keep dancing?
Well, off to work, I hope the league takes away draft picks for this cheating

It's cheating because it's against the rules to pipe up sound while the opposing team has the ball

Yea but you hear how quiet it was when the noise stopped? So that means they would have to pipe the noise when both teams had the ball. Otherwise it would sound like the crowd supported the other team more.
To me it just sounds like more of a subliminal trick for TV and entertainment purposes. It's going to make the crowd more likely to be involved in the yelling and screaming which equals more fun for those in the crowd.
It also would likely have a motivational boost for the players as they would likely get more pumped up from the crowd.
While I think it's fairly funny if they are doing it, I can't really see how it's cheating. Just seems more like a entertainment gimmick. Also I'd have to say the other arena's are doing it as well, because all the crowds at football games always seem notoriously loud too me.
-
Remembering the owner and Tony Dungy, both thanked the lord for there win over the Pats and the Bears. I decided I would look up a little quote -
Two weeks prior to the Super Bowl, following the Colts win over New England and realizing that the Chicago Bears had already clinched their berth in the Super Bowl, Dungy was quoted by saying, "The Lord set this up in a way that no one would believe it. The Lord tested us a lot this year, but He set this up to get all the glory."
Looks like God and Piping Crowd Noise helped the Colts Win last year.
Who can you trust anymore? Really disheartens me. The older I grow, the more it seems like everything is rigged for entertainment value.
-
It wouldn't suprise me if something like this happened but its going to take a lot more than the links I've seen in this thread to convince me. The one in the first post says that the sound is a feedback loop that any audio engineer worth his salt would recognize. Well, I've worked in the music business for a long time and have heard loads of feedback loops. Feedback doesn't repeat itself over and over. A particular frequency resonates and becomes louder and louder. If anything it's a skipping track from either the stadium folks or the television guys.
Sixpence, ever considered taking up law? You're one step away from asking what the definition of "is" is when it comes to the Pats and spygate. The got fined for breaking the rules. They were making tapes from an inappropriate area in order to gain a competitive advantage. That can definitely be called cheating. The eight minutes that Goodell reviewed the tape is laughable to bring up as a defense. Eight minutes? He spared eight whole minutes to review the evidence? Please...... And while they may not have gotten the video to the coach's right then and there, it was definitely going to be used at some point. Either for the Pat's benefit or another team they could pass it to. They sure weren't taping the opponent's sideline for a nice souveneir to watch when they retire. It's tough for a homer to say that about his own team and I understand that. But it "is" what it "is."
Cougar
p.s. The above post was created by a diehard Tennessee Titans fan and dedicated Colts/Pats hater. Any bias toward either team involved in said incidents is completely in the reader's mind and without merit. Any complaints about the content of this message can be directed to the department of K.M.A.

It prevents the line man from hearing the quarterbacks signals to know when to start their play.
And yes the crowd is quit for the home team for just the opposite reasons, they want their guys to get a good jump off the snap so they can push forward batter.

What’s most revealing, I listened to the tape again and as soon as Moss stands up the sound noise goes dead, like it was turned off suddenly.
It ends to abruptly for just a feedback from mikes, besides that's usually a higher pitch sound.
This is just like the wobble I hear on CD players.

Tape feedback in the CBS production truck responsible for audio mystery (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3095903)

"CBS has informed us that the unusual audio moment heard by fans during the Patriots-Colts game was the result of tape feedback in the CBS production truck and was isolated to the CBS broadcast," the league said. "It was in no way related to any sound within the stadium and could not be heard in the stadium."

Too bad it WASN'T the Colts. It was CBS. They apologized.
Too bad the "Colt haters bandwagon" just came to a screeching halt. CBS "did it for ratings".

I still think they oughta kick the Colts outta the league, and the Patriots too. :p

yeeaahhhh riigghhhtttt!!
It never happens during other games but just so happens at the place that gets accused of it all the time!!
Way to sweep it under the rug league, don't want to ruin Dungy's godly image and ruffle polian's feathers
Wow, and after two hours to investigate, i'm sure they got alot covered. League: "Bill, did you pipe in noise" Bill: "no, it was CBS " League: "ok"
Way to sweep it under the rug league, well done.
If there is any justice, the Pats will win the SB and the 49ers will finish with the worst record, giving the Pats the first pick in the draft(as of right now they have no lower than the 6th pick)
Looks like the Pats have become the Raiders, better pick up their motto..
Just win baby

The way the Phil and Nance were cheerleading Indy all day it wouldnt surprise me that CBS covered for them. Everyone hates a winner.

Belacheat was not disciplined for video taping signs. He was disciplined for improper camera position. Had they taped from a sky box instead of the feild, it would have been ok.

I don't believe it.
So... CBS records the sound of the stadium. And Amps it for the Home Audience?

Talk about jealousy: once they set the NFL record for most points scored, most TD passes, largest margin of victory average, and possible 19-0 with a SB win, without the “tapes” will you all put this to bed.
Taping is not against the rules, just taping from the sideline is against the rules. So the Pats still have tape on every team, They just use it better then the rest of the league does.
Rip I’m sorry your Seahawks picked up our sloppy seconds, and Branch is just not working out for you.

Wow.
All of the "evidence" that this happened was a video clip from the CBS broadcast.
Did you watch these? Did you ever stop and think of what the crowd's reaction would have been had they heard what is heard on the broadcast?
I mean, come on, don't you think that that the broadcasters would have noticed it and said something had it been heard over the stadium's sound system?

lol, seahawks, they crack me up. Best guard in the game, they won't offer him a contract. Tell him we will wait til you are a free agent to see what the market is.
Yeah, nice move, dis the best left guard in the game so he signs a poison pill contract so the hawks can't match(in other words, I wouldn't come back to seattle for all the money in the world).
Then trade a first round pick for a 5'-10" receiver and pay him 39 million.
So now that receiver sits on the bench hurt(like he always has), and Hutch is opening holes for Adrian Peterson. Meanwhile, Alexander can't gain more than one yard. Top notch GM you got out there Rip:aok
Oh, btw, the Pats traded that pick to san fran for their pick this year, which as of right now is no less than the 6th pick! haha!!
Belichick schooled seattle. Don't worry Rip, your team isn't the first to get pwned by Bill

Just heard a CBS camera man state that they are well aware that the colts mic the crowd and pipe it back thru the PA system. He says "it gives me a headache in the 1st quarter" and I hate doing their games".
One reason some of you have given to support your "Pats Cheat" is because they have been accused of this in the past, Well news flash, the colts have been accused of amping the crowd for years.
Again I say listen to the recording, The crowd is roaring and then boom no noise at all.
Also the NFL just took the Pats vs Bills game away from CBS and gave it to NBC and moved it to 8pm.. Sending a little mesg? perhaps, better rates most defiantly.
-
pulled from another site. Well put:
The Colts have microphones placed in locations around the stadium. They are probably somewhere in the domed ceiling. They would be directional shotgun mics and aimed at the crowd. They would be best aimed at the top half of the seating so as not to pick up any field noise. When the opposing team is on offense and before the play starts when the QB is calling signals, the house, (Colt's), engineer turns up these mics and feeds them through the stadium's sound system. This is much better than pre-recorded crowd noise because it is a perfect audible match to the environment and there are no recordings of crowd noise to get busted with.
What happened tonight was the engineer turned up the mics too much. This caused the mics to pick up the sound eminating from the stadiums sound system, (the amplified crowd noise), as well as the natural crowd noise. The result is a feedback loop. As this loop continues to cycle through the mics and speakers oscillation occurs. This was described as the skipping sound. At this point the feedback is full bandwidth. This means that all of the frequencies being reproduced by the system were present in the loop. If you listen carefully to the recording you will hear a midrange frequency starting to become predominant. It sounded like something between 600hz and 800hz was starting to take off. At this point the engineer became aware of his error and shut off the mics. That was the abrupt drop in volume that is also on the recording on the PFT site.

If CBS still wants games, they let it die. Like I said they took the PATS/Bills game away and moved it to NBC.
Poor production, Poor officiating. WEll done NFL/CBS. The most whatched game.:aok
http://www.boxxet.com/Indianapolis_Colts/Raider_Fans_Pray_For_A_Local_TV_Blackout_To_Watch_Colts_Pats_Game.190q0b.d
The only late games that will be televised on CBS are the Oakland Raiders vs. The Houston Texans, and the much anticipated Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots. 98% of America will be watching the most hyped regular season NFL matchup in history, while the Bay Area and Houston are forced into viewing a train wreck due to NFL regulations.
In Boston, it was bigger than the Academy Awards. It was bigger than Games 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the American League Championship Series
In a word, Brady v. Manning was a blockbuster for CBS and especially for its company-owned station in Boston. WBZ-TV earned a 38.2 household rating, with nearly 1.5 million viewers in the Boston market.
In all likely-hood the PATS will run the table. Bills, Eagles, Miami, Jets, :lol
Steelers are their toughest opponent left, Giants will be beat, as well as Baltimore.
I think this is what PO's the NFL and the rest of the Fans.
They wanted parity in the NFL. They "every team has a chance" concept and the PATS blow that Idea out of the water, with perfect salary cap management, and getting more out of less talented players then another team.

It's called flexible scheduling. Later in the season the league will move more meaningful games to the prime time slots so audiences are stuck watching the raiders play the dolphins on Sunday night. They started doing this last year.

The sound heard in the video is NOT a feedback loop! Do me a favor, take your microphone on your computer and set it to where you can talk into it with the sound coming out of the speakers. That creates essentially the same situation they say existed at the stadium, microphones that start to pick up the amplified signal and creates a loop. Speak a sentence into your microphone and tell me if when it hits the feedback loop you hear the same sound repeated over and over again or if you just get one loud squeal.
There are way too many options for how CBS could be running sound to even begin to guess how the skip got created. They've admitted fault and that's good enough for even a Colts hater like me.
Sixpence, you can't cry foul about the league's investigation of this after the sham that was spygate. They destroyed the evidence! Talk about covering up for the golden boy....

"It's not the first time Indianapolis has been accused of such tactics. The Pittsburgh Steelers complained about the same thing after a 26-7 loss at the dome in November 2005. Since then, other teams have informally contended there is artificial noise pumped into the dome.
The Colts have continually denied the accusations, and issued their strongest worded statement yet on Monday.
"We trust this will put an end to the ridiculous and unfounded accusations that the Colts artificially enhanced crowd noise at the RCA Dome in any way," the team said.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick, no stranger to controversy, did not discuss those allegations during his regularly scheduled news conference Monday. Instead, Belichick said he was more concerned with communication problems he said existed between Patriots coaches and Brady.
"Basically, we didn't have a coach-to-quarterback operation, so we had to signal in all of the plays, which is unusual, but that's the way it was," he said. "What all was going on, I can't tell you, but I can tell you that, from a functional standpoint, the coach-to-quarterback was basically useless."
The NFL needs to punish this blatant cheating.

LOL.
You are funny.
What blatant cheating?
Where's the proof?
Just because there have been some accusations in the past does not mean that it is true. Where's the proof? Why hasn't the NFL looked into this before? Better yet, why hasn't anyone voiced a formal complaint?
Don't you think it is possible that the fans themselves are loud enough on their own and are disciplined enough to turn the noise up and down at the right times?
