Title: Punished for defending yourself?
Post by: wrag on November 06, 2007, 01:35:12 AM
is this how things have become?

http://mensnewsdaily.com/2007/11/05/how-to-deal-with-child-abuse-and-school-violence/

When my sons were going to school and the school called me about a fight I asked questions.

And informed the school that IF my sons were DEFENDING themselves we would go to court over their suspension BUT if my sons were picking fights I WOULD fix things.

Odd now that I think about it, can't recall my sons getting suspended?

That article is just a bunch of blah blah blah about public schools being bad, then it turns into parental child abuse... not quite sure what her point was in that article

All I can say after reading the first 8 paragraphs, I dont know where she went to school but we respected our teachers male and female.  I knew several female teachers that were quite willing and able to deliver swift and devestating punishment when necesary.  And this isnt just Texas schools,  I attended schools in Arizona, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas from 1965 until 1978 and didnt talk back, or even look sideways at a teacher.  And fights??  everybody got hauled to the priniciples office...

Was there really an article or any reporting in that op/ed piece?

It seems to really be a plea for more male teachers as 'role models'.  But in order for there to be more male teachers, teaching has to be attractive to men. It isn't, simple as that. Men don't want to be teachers.

In any case, the two scariest teachers in my school were women. In fact thinking about it. I always had more trouble with female teachers than male. Maybe they just need to recruit more former marine female teachers:lol

Not that I can see, and when I was a kid 25 years or so ago, both parties got suspended when they fought, and the school didnt care who started it.
