Title: Call of Duty 4
Post by: Hoarach on November 06, 2007, 08:51:57 PM
Whats your opinion?

I think its a lot more fast paced than the past CoDs and the ability to create your own classes is a nice perk.  I just dont like how short the matches are on TD in multiplayer.

Edit: I have it for PC...first person shooters I think better for PC just because its easier with a mouse.

I am playing though it on Hardened difficulty and it makes me want to throw the controller at times. The graphics look amazing. The war pig mission was amazing.

This is the best CoD yet. I don't have it for PC, I have it for the 360, I have no doubt this will end up being game of the year. There is so much here.

It's 60 bucks. I would buy it sooner rather than later, but I had to put a new alternator in my car :(

Is it really just 5 hours long in single player?

Five frustrating hours. Play the game on the hardest level. You will find yourself going over and over again trying to make it though a simple section. The single player is great, but the really awesome thing about this game is the MP. It is by far the best so far on the Xbox 360.

I loved the AC-130 missions. It felt as if I had a giant bellybutton magnifying glass and the bad guys were the ants. That has to be a wicked weapon to see for real on the battle field.

I was kinda' bummed that it wasn't WW2 anymore...

For some reason, I just don't feel that modern day games didn't capture emotion and personalities of charachters as much as in WW2 games...

However, I haven't played this game yet.  I'm waiting untill I get my 360 to buy it.

I just dont see how get as ease of a motion with the use of 2 joysticks instead of a mouse.  This is one of the leading elements why I didnt get CoD4 for PS3.  To me the mouse makes it so much easier and always wondered how people do it on the game consoles.

To think how easy it is to advance online though.  Im already at lvl 15 and probably only played it for 2 hours maybe 2 and a half hours the most.  Its nice having the advantage over others but soon everyone will be the same.  Ive got a scope now on my MP5. :)

Like all FPS games, they are far better on the PC than on any console, CoD 4 is no different.  It even looks better on a PC than on a console.

Yes, I have it for PC!  After playing online for a little over an hour I can say it's one of the best I've played.  The weapon choice and modifications you can make are great, and really add depth to multi player.  Classes are good too, you can be any number of things, or even make your own when you get the ability to create a class when you reach a certain rank. You get experience for assisting someone kill or killing a person, and you have to have a certain number of experience points to rise in the ranks.  While you rise in ranks, the higher you go the more modifications you can make to your gun.

Some of us should get together and play some time.

(definitely worth the 50 bucks at Wal-Mart)

Just read the COD4 forum and see the rain of threads along the lines of "COD4 doesn't run on my system" ... "My framerate makes the game unplayable" ... "My graphics are distorded".

I slided the CD in my 360, and enjoyed the game right away, no issue on my 52" plasma in 1080i.:aok

Now if I could find a deathmatch server without the killcam that gives my position away, that would be nice.

Funny enough both my gaming boxes run COD4 smoothly. Which can't be said about Crysis.

Consoles are for kiddies, fps games are 100% unplayable with gamepads. Mouse ftw!

A console with keyboard and mouse option for playing would be great for FPS games. I dont like controllers either so my xbox has 2cm of dust covering it.
Title: Call of Duty 4
Post by: BBBB on November 17, 2007, 07:47:10 AM
It takes time getting use to the controller. I started slow. First with SOCOM on the PS2, it was third person, but it helped me work out the aiming issues with a controller. Now I find I am even better with a controller than I am with a keyboard and a mouse. Everything I need is right there, I do not have to move around the key board to change a weapon or open a door.

I love PC gaming, but the fact is, PC gaming is on the way out when it comes to shooters. There is nothing a PC can do that the next gen console can't do when it comes to shooters. I was able to pop my COD 4 disk in and play away. No server issues, no computer issues, nothing to install, no shortcuts to create, just start and go.

With the 360s ability to allow companies to patch their games, you always have easy updates available, no patches to download and install, or worse re-install, then patch like you have on some PCs. For me, the only reason to have a high end PC is for flight sims. Once you jump over the controller hurdle you will see how much better it is on this side. :aok

Weird I never had a single issue with installing games on PC. And most you can patch for no-cd so you don't need to keep the disc in drive or even worse, wait for slow dvd load times.
Title: Call of Duty 4
Post by: BBBB on November 17, 2007, 09:25:58 AM
Slow Dvd times? I have never had a loading time on CoD 4 for my 360 take longer than 5-6 secs. You can set your PC up for no CD, but then you still have to worry about things like star force, hacking, bad patches and a host of other problems you don't see with the 360.

You might come across someone with a modded box, but MS does scans for those and is pretty good at catching the hacked boxes. They ban their XBL accounts so they can not play online using that 360 any more. This means no cheating, no punk buster to download and let scan your system at random points during a game, lagging the server and slowing your system performance. You should try it out before you make a judgment call. I am glad I did.

My husband & sons love it.

Learned a new phrase as a result. Two sons on opposing teams screaming "screen-watcher!" at one another as they snuck up on one another's positions for the kill.  *rolling my eyes*

The masses here don't know it but all next-gen console games have that tacked on the price.  That's why Xbox 360 and PS3 games cost $60 as opposed to the average $49 for PC games.  The common excuse from the gaming companies about costs of console games being the reason for the increased price is pure BS.

In the pc verison....

My only gripe is the poorly done mulitplayer maps.

On the majority of the maps every spawn is right on top of other. The maps are just to small.

So... enemies just lay in the grass spawn camping each other and the rounds end in minutes due scores tallying up in seconds. It seems you spend more time loading levels than actually playing them.

I can't wait for some quality user made maps instead of single player maps with spawns tossed in.

Lol you have a strange idea of convenience. I'd hate to be tied to a certain label gaming box with very limited selection of games and controllers (all of which come at a price premium). Adding to that the console will tie the family tv while gaming - we use tv for watching tv in our family.

90% of games that are played in our family are free demos of games. My 4 and 7 year old kids get plenty of fun just playing a map or two of a demo, I can download them unlimited from different sites when they get bored to old ones. Not to mention about *cough* downloading.. :o

I buy maybe 3-4 best gaming titles each year based on the experience we got from the demos. So for the same amount of money I'd get 3 console games per year (which I could not TEST before buying them I might add!). Which means the console would sit in the corner useless most of the year where the PC gets use daily.

Oh, I also browse internet with the PC's (all of them) and do software coding, how do you do that on a console? And finally, gamepad gaming is the horror of all things. You need a mouse and keyboard to play properly.

Currently we have 3xgaming pcs, 1xmacbook pro and 1xtv in our family. We're a family of 4 so now there is never a fight about who gets to play / use what. Well, except when the neighbours kids come to visit and play but I ain't gonna get THEM their own box!

I can surf the net, email and even use linux on my ps3.  Plus it accepts most any usb device.  I can plug in an extra hard drive if I want.  This console is nothing like the earlier generations I owned.  In my family we have more than 1 tv so it really isnt an issue.  I never thought I would get as much use out of it that I do.  Plus  remote play is just creepy.  Nothing like hooking up my psp to the internet anywhere in the world and having access to my ps3 at home.  I watch movies and listen to music while I am away on trips.

Well so far I've played the game to LVL 22 online via PC.

The game is incredible now thanks to unlocking better game servers and perks.

The best experience I've found is the "Search and Destroy" game play.

It's counterstrike done right for in my opinion. 1 life per match. 1 team has the bomb the other defends 2 bomb sites. Defend/defuse the bomb once it's been planted.

The game looks incredible.

Here's a shot I took while in a game running at 1600x1200 with every setting maxed.

Your still assuming that our consoles are, our only source for internet access and gaming. You are the one who is hung up in one system type.

Most of us have consoles and PCs. I happen to have a PS3, X360 and two PCs. If you count my two laptops, I have four PCs, so that makes three PCs I have which can run CoD4.

I can run the PC vers of CoD 4 as well as I can the 360. As do most console gamers. You keep assuming that consoles are only for games, which shows your total lack of understanding of the concept. Keep your one medium outlet. We will keep out multi-platform, 15$ premium, kiddy machines.

Let me know when you come out of the single medium stone age. I will let you in on some great console games and media services like xbox market place where I can rent movies and buy episodes of your favorite TV shows, in HD for a few dollars (new releases too) and watch them right away on my HDTV with out even leaving my couch. Ohh and I think netflixs is about to set up a direct rental service on the PS3.

Yep..you got us with your three high end PCs. Enjoy watching movies on them from your desk. Is that chair comfy?  As comfy as your couch? Man I hope so, because you are cutting edge my friend. Yep cutting edge indeed.

Going to be picking it up by Christmas for the PC. The only games we buy for consoles are sports games and Lego Star Wars games. BUT then we have impressionable young minds in the house that don't need to experience fun in blowing someone away online right now. My oldest gets enough of that when I let him play RTW or MTW2 on my computer.

Terrible arguement for the XBOX. Buy an outdated gaming console to watch movies. Hah :aok PC's get the same services online and TONS more. Besides anyone that subscribe to those services network their pcs to watch movies on their television anyway.

You forgot to mention how LIVE charges you to play multiplayer games? Did you mention how they charge you for content pc gamers get for free? Did you mention you have to pay that GOLD subscription to host the more popular games online? Microgestapo  at its best.

And lets not talk about their outrageous game prices..  $59.99 ! my god.

XBOX360 is a suckers buy in the end.

You pay for what you get. If xbox live was free the service would be piss poor, like that of the PS3. I don't mind paying the 50$ a year for a gold subscription.  I would agree with your assessment of popping a DvD into my 360 to watch a movie. What I am referring to is the ability to rent a new movie on my xbox without having to go to blockbuster or the like.

And no, most pepole do not have their PCs and their TVs linked. So like I said before, most are having to watch the movies in their computer rooms. The point I was making, is that you are paying for is the ability to have very little hassle with renting a movie.

Riply seems to think he is cutting edge. What he hasn't figured out is his extra time and effort is time wasted. He is knocking a system where his only argument for not owning one is a 15$ price boost. However, he has no problem dropping 700-800$ dollars or more, per PC, every two years to upgrade his cutting edge PCs. Or the fact that he has no problem spending the money on his "full grown" entertainment system. Basically, what I am saying is..cough..cough..bull****..cough.  If you got money like that to literally throw away..15$ is nothing. Hell we pay 15$ a month here. He needs to find a better argument.

A gaming box is a piss-poor compromise for a home theater or audio reproduction. It's a piss-poor compromise for high-end gaming. This from any other except money standpoint.

A dedicated dvd (hd or not) system with projectors, 7.1 audio, proper seats etc. beats some silly noisy gaming box in the tv corner any time. Sure it costs more, but one is proper the other is not.

To cut it short, it's a compromise for people who have to get a few games for kids but can't afford a proper computer to run them on.

I'd hate to pay premium in order to have to switch a box to the tv and use some silly-ass gamepads to play. Never could understand how people could do it, never will.
