Ban guns... yup intelligent..... really helps the country be peaceful. Only the criminals will have guns so there won't be anyone to stop them. Just give the criminal all he wants and you can make it more peaceful as he won't have to make the big bang noise with his gun. While your at it... bend over!

Condolences Finland. :cry :(
-
dont sweat it Fins. This stuff just happens from time to time. My condolences to the innocents lost :cry
-
I wish the shooter survives with a severe brain damage. Dying would be too easy. Alas, the doctors doesn't give him any chances of survival. It'd be the best kind of irony to fail at suicide and end up crippled for life.
-
I wonder how the Fins will handle this? will there be a call to disarm the populace, or is Russia still a threat?

You don't really want to know, it would be too mind boggling to you.
-
Awe, sorry to have heard about that y'all. :(

mind boggle. whats a boggle? I dont get it :aok
Here are the words from the killer posted in liveleak:
Total War Against Humanity
Hate, Im so full of it and I love it. That is one thing I really love. Some time ago, I used to believe in humanity and I wanted to live a long and happy life... but then I woke up. I started to think deeper and realized things. But it was not easy to become existential... knowing as much as I know has made me unhappy, frustrated and angry. I just can’t be happy in the society or the reality I live. Due to long process of existential thinking, observing the society I live and some other things happened in my life... I have come to the point where I feel nothing but hate against humanity and human race.
Life is just a meaningless coincidence... result of long process of evolution and many several factors, causes and effects. However, life is also something that an individual wants and determines it to be. And I'm the dictator and god of my own life. And me, I have chosen my way. I am prepared to fight and die for my cause. I, as a natural selector, will eliminate all who I see unfit, disgraces of human race and failures of natural selection.
You might ask yourselves, why did I do this and what do I want. Well, most of you are too arrogant and closed-minded to understand... You will probably say me that I am “insane”, “crazy”, “psychopath”, “criminal” or crap like that. No, the truth is that I am just an animl, a human, an individual, a dissident.

Wackjob
-
The killer used a licensed weapon that he legally owned. The only error here is that this wacko didn't get diagnosed and banned from carrying in time.
-
He had a legal weapon and belonged to a local shooting club.
No system can prevent every single wacko, so why would we blame the system? We dont blame HTC for you, yaeger, being able to post here, do we?
Sorry yaeger, your bait fails just as miserably as that sad individual failed in his imaginary war. All you achieved is one more person who will ignore your posts from now on.
-
Ban guns? No thanks, I don't like the idea of the only people in a country with guns being criminals, police, and military... sorry but that kind of power solely in the hands of the Police and Military who only make up a fraction of the population and are controlled by politicians. 99.9999999% of whom I dislike, is a key ingredient to totalitarianism.
Ban Youtube? Maybe, but then I'd have to wait for another Jackarse movie to come out... What would be better IMHO, is make Youtube actually regulate the stuff that people are allowed to put on there. Would be a bugger and a half to police that up but I'm pretty sure you could find people willing to do it.
There's probably some groups out there who are already protesting the stuff on YouTube, I'm pretty sure they could be paid to help police it up.

Condolences to our Finish friends. :(

Very sad when anyone takes their own life. Much harder when they have to murder others in the process. Condolences to Finland.

Just out of curiosity, how many of these types of mass shootings do the fins endure? Is this the first school mass shooting in Finland?

So far? 1 according to the article you posted.
The shooting, believed to be the first of its kind in Finland's history,

well then........
lets hope its the last.

Guns don't kill people.People kill people.
-
Nope, but they sure make it convenient, fast, and easy.

The problem is not with guns, but with vagina, or lack of it.....

So do cars, power tools, home made substances...
Let's ban them all!
-
I believe that there was an earlier shooting in finland involving two people shot. Some news stories are making the correction.
My condolences to the people of finland. No one likes to see innocents killed.
This seemed unavoidable to me.. finland has strict gun control laws.. this guy obeyed em...up until he took the guns to school and started shooting.
He didn't show any sign of being a whackjob until a few hours before the killings on youtube.
He used a relatively benign handgun that is never targeted by our gun ban crowd.. a 22 pistol.. what I learned to shoot with when I was 9 years old.
I don't know what makes these kids feel so much hate and self loathing that they would do such things.

And straws, and napkins, and TV's, and clothes a sock can easily be used to kill someone so we can't have socks... or shoes, or boots... or candy wrappers, or books, or pencils, action figures, any kind of cord or rope, boxes...

So do cars, power tools, home made substances...

true, but if it was my intention to walk into some public place and kill as many unarmed sheep as possible, my weapon of choice would be a semi auto rifle and a pistol with high capacity magazines.

That doesn't make the other items any less deadly.

I don't really want to turn this into a gun control thread. I will be glad to if I must but.
for now.. let's just put out our condolances and shake our heads and wonder why so many well off and spoiled kids around the world end up trying to kill so many of their fellows.

Its a pity that wackos want to take other people with them. Would be much "nicer" if they would just pop one on their own head instead of killing lots of innocents.
I´m just waiting for the press to have a field day with this and politicians making comments about computer games, TV´s bad influence, position of the stars and the moon... etc. Like it helps.
-
Condolences Finns.
This thread seems very tasteless given the situation.
I am quite disappointed in some of you, not that you'll likely give a damn.
Some people are just fanatics I am afraid, and some of them post here.

too much apathy, guess its back in style.
my thoughts and prayers to the finns

The shooter has died at hospital to a gun wound shot by himself at the scene. Too bad, I was hoping he'd survive severely brain damaged. Then again, better this way than have him live, get only a few years in jail, write a book and get rich.
Believe it or not, but he'd been probably sentenced only for 12-15 years in jail. Although he'd been probably dumped in the psycho ward for undetermined lenght of time.

On a mature note. Condolances (without a pizzy poli-agenda attached).

my condolences to the freinds and family:(
cant help it when some one fly's off the deep end. what a tragity.
-
All condolonces' to our Finnish friends, in this sad time. :(
Also, I pray that none of our Northern-most community had any children or relatives' of their own at that school, or if they were, that they are alright.
To everyone else, ask yourselves, did they behave the way some posters' here have, during the VT shootings, especially right afterwards? Do you like having something so serious, be treated so cavelierly? Have some respect, dweebs.

It was the first school shooting in Finland since 1989, when a 14-year-old student shot and killed two others in the coastal town of Rauma, the Finnish news agency STT reported.
Auvinen published a manifesto online demanding war on the "weak-minded masses" and pledged to die for his cause. Watch Auvinen fire weapons in video from his Web page »
YouTube appeared to have removed 89 videos linked to his account, many of them featuring Nazi imagery, shortly after the incident.
Finnish media reported someone posted a message two weeks ago on the Web site, warning of a bloodbath at the school.

cavalier?
No, just wondering if Finland should eliminate private firearms ownership, or severely restrict it even more so, in light of this insane freaks mass murder/suicide attack. Its a perfectly legitimate question that needs to be asked in light of this mass murder.

Fixed.

Now can you resist for 15 mins?

sorry arlo. of course my heart goes out to these people, like it has gone out to thousands of people thousands of times before, and likely will again. I have simply become desensitized to human cruelty.
Lets get straight to the question, thats my motto :D

The Fins love guns almost as much as Americans do. When Russia invaded Finland just after the start of WWII, the Fins decimated the Soviet Army, despite being at a huge disadvantage. Part of the reason was that so many of their men were excellent marksmen and hunters.
They are also excellent rifle makers. I own two Finish Rifles myself. Here is a photo of my newer one, a Tikka T3

Well, we have had our own share of these shoot-outs.
A few years ago a girl went to a local shooting club and instead of shooting the targets she shot a few fellow shooters. She was caught alive and I think she was put to mental hospital.
A few decades ago a farmer shot 4 or 5 police men who were on the way to arrest him for some minor misconduct.
Also a couple of years ago a young man exploded a bomb in a market killing himself and few other people.
This particular young guy had been bullied at school for some time (as was the bomber guy) so that may shed some light to his strange ponderings.
When I had my licences i had to consult my local police superior face to face for every one of them and i though the system was pretty good and from those times I think the system has become more strict but I guess it does not work too well in some areas...

Yeag,
It's sad to see that you have sunk to the level of beetle as a means of gaining attention.
Condolences to the families and those who were hurt by this poor excuse for protoplasm.

my dearest mav,
its alright. I know you mean well and take yourself very seriously. I still love you.

The shooter belonged to the same shooting club where a woman committed the triple murder earlyer and he shared the first name, Eric, with the Columbine killer..
Coincidences..

humans are complex creatures prone to critical emotional breakdown. Its a threat we all learn to deal with and live with. So unfortunately.
What has been the public response in Finland since the murders? What has been the governments reponse to the public since then?

yeager... why don't you just spit it out and tell us what you think?
quit being such a woman about it.
