Chinese-made toys have been pulled from shelves in North America and Australia after scientists found they contain a chemical that converts into a powerful "date rape" drug when ingested. Two children in the U.S. and three in Australia were hospitalized after swallowing the beads
Yet another case of chinese made toys pulled from the shelves. The chinese are telling it's the western companies fault, like Mattels, that the toys are defective due to bad design. Then again where is the control? Don't they have any control in China to inspect the output of the factories before something like this happens and they lose the reputation? Here, In the west, there are certain stantards that the factories have to meet or their owner will be in trouble.

The sad thing is the US has gottn to be dependent on chinese made garbage. If china ever decided to say "Thats it, we no longer trade with the US", this country would be screwed
All because factories and jobs go overseas just to save a dollar.

Why does Australia get all the cool toys....

I'm reckon the shops never got a chance to take them off the shelves.
Unfortunately it went public before the recall so I'm betting that the shops were sold out of Bindeez (IIRC) within hours of it hitting the news.
It appears the product was predominantly made of a close analogue of GHB probably GBL with some colouring and a water soluble gelling agent.

Be aware these are NOT just in Australia, my wife and I had to toss out our daughter's "aqua dots" which are the same product. Luckily she is 8 and doesn't eat things like this anymore, she has had them for a couple of months now.
