I switched to Knight from Rook tonight. My first sortie ever as a knight was very successful; I landed 5 kills in a 190A5, one of which was causing a pony to auger (outmaneuvering him to the point, not just happening to be in the area). Got some more kills in the 190 and 109k afterwards.
Eventually, the bishops pushed us back to the base I was operating from (21) and nailed our FH's. So, I up an Il2 and start ho'ing everyting in sight (hey, its an Il2). I go to ho an LA (which, I figured, would be easy, cause, how can an LA resist a ho?). To my surprise, the LA pulls up, and we initiate low- level turn fight. This is when I unleash my secret weapon. Full flaps out on my Il2. Throttle almost chopped, on the edge of a stall (I am PUSHING this thing). To the LA pilots surprise, I am not only keeping with him, I am OUT-TURNING his LA5. Of course, he through WEP on and got the hell outa there (I would have done the same thing), and then a mossie got me from behind. I upped another sortie in the Il2, got an A20 smoking, and then the hangars popped and I went back out in my 109 and 190.
I was sorta surprised myself, though, at how tightly I was turning that Il2. The thing really is a monster. If it were faster, Id take it as my normal ride. But, of course, once anyone decides the fights over, they can easily get outta guns range.
to KayGB for being a good sport when I outturned his LA instead of screaming 'BS!' on 200.

Don't be suprised about the turning ability of the IL2. It outturns almost all the planes in the game. I've even outturned FM2s and Hurri's before. It only takes 1-2 cannon shots to kill almost every fighter in the game...bombers are a different story...

It was great.I always feel bad attacking an IL2.It feels like im trying to kill my grandfather, lol

I love the Il-2 Sturmovik. Landing 4+ kills per sortie isn't a very difficult task when you're flying such a monster.
Although it does make me want the Il-10, which is quite a bit faster and has proper wing armor. Literally a flying tank.

The Il-2 always reminded me of a car with wings attached.

Dont you love a fight like that
I love stall fighting the 152 to the point where the left (or is it the right)wing keeps dropping and I have to drop flaps and fly her real gentle, (lol wife must think i am having an affair some nights, when she here's me saying "come on baby... hold it... thats it baby.... Just a little more" under my breath as I struggle to get that guns solution)

The IL2 was a renowned turn-fighter in WW2.

There's one thing I deeply hate of the IL2... visuals. The cockpit is so armoured that you can't see almost anything behind, so it's not that good for dogfighting, especially when outnumbered.
Yep, I know, there are external views... call me dumb, I can't fly/fight with externals! :p

I remember I onced upped an Il-2 for a dummy bomb run on a base pretending to be a n00b. Figured Id play bait then kill whoever came up to play. Autoclimbed out ate my dinner came back made my run into an island base on Mindinao. Bombed the town. Saw a fighter up. figured id let him climb up to me. Heading back to my base the fighter gets in vis range about 5k below me. I give it a minute its an f6f hes about 4k below me now and with a "I hope thats not Greebo" I rolled in on him. He was kinda late but evaded so I think he wasnt expecting to be engaged. But even in an il 2 at this point I hold all the cards.one more BnZ then A long turn fight down to the deck ensues. Finally I get a crossing shot and with the 23mm even in an f6f its over witha hit. It was Greebo. Probably anyone else in the arena would have been whacked on the first pass. Only a few would have lasted as long as he did.
I have also get my longest shot from the rear in an Il-2, 2.4k on a mossie 1 hit from a very shortburst. Didnt damage anything critical though

Nice. I think the best I've ever managed was lobbing a 30mm shell from a K-4 1.5 out and nailing a 262. :)
