I was hoping to get started on a DGS film, but unfortuneately, I'm having film problems, so I thought I could practice some more on video editing with this footage I had taken last week.
Well, I was in the Main Arena when I decided to run fraps and see what I could capture that night. I ran into a yak9t while I was in a Ki61. It was a fun fight. Nothing special other than we both had fun. I can't seem to remember who the yak pilot was. It was a fun fight and I was able to capture it 30 seconds at a time.
Thanks Bmathis for helping me earlier today.
Hope you enjoy the fighting part of the film.

Great film, with a message many people in AH really need to learn.
Impressive enough for me to actually feel the need to post (something that has never up till now happened).
Great job!
-
Great film Kermit :aok That film is making me miss AH even more :( You had me on the end of my monitor with a boner of who was gonna get the angel shot first :O
Another great vid :aok
-
I like the tunes
-
What song is that in the background?
-
Dam, I cannot download that. I thing I need a file download program. It stops halfway...
-
Very nice!!! :aok
-
well done:aok
-
sweet.
you must have a pretty darn good computer to run fraps and still get the frame rate to fly.
S!
-
I MUST now get that full version of fraps. Lol...
That was the best film I've ever seen posted on here. Great Music, wonderful visual effects (Blurs, etc), and awsome sounds. Not to mention your encapsilating messages to the viewers... Just Amazing Kerm!
I usually have my aircrafts sound down durring game play. Did you turn it up for tht fight? Or was that pulled from your sound files, and laid on top?
<> Bud, Cant wait for the next one.

WOW GREAT music.....keeps you on the edge of your seat:aok :aok :aok :aok

Nice pic USRanger! :lol
Music I used was:
Music: Track 10 "The Citrine Cross"
Soundtrack from the Movie The Da Vinci Code.
Game sounds from Waffle's Sound Pack.
I added a few sounds but most of what you hear is from the game. You can actually hear the different pitches in the engine due to the throttle constantly being adjusted throughout the fight. You can also hear that Yak's gun as he tries to nail me in my head! If you have a subwoofer, it's more noticable that way.
The weather effect turned out good as well.
Thanks for the responses, glad to help with those withdrawals JB11 and it's cool to get your first post PaddyD. :)
This one was another fun one to make.
-
I really loved this movie, for what people said, its message, and just for the plain old fun action!
15/10 Great job!
donkey
PS: Make more, and that can be my Christmas present!:aok

Awesome film Kermit!! Excellent music too!
(got my dad the 300 soundtrack for christmas. Can't wait to hear that music!)

Agent360,
I recorded at a resolution of 1360x768.
I then cropped the video to 852x480. By cropping, I mean I am cutting out some video, not resizing it.
I then render the film at 852x480 (24fps, less frames per second means more data per frame, which means better quality per frame)
Codec: Windows Media Video 9 Professional Constant Bit Rate of 1.5Mbps (2 pass). 2 passes makes a big difference in improving the quality when using a low data rate.
Audio is regular 192kbps stereo 48khz sample rate.
Sony Vegas 5.0 was used to edit the film.
You can always download from microsoft, their program that will encode video files to their codec. It's highly detailed and I'd recommend it if you are going to be using Windows Movie Maker. WMM doesn't allow many custome options for rendering. Be aware that encoding encoded files too many times will hurt the image quality.
Hope this helps.
-
Thanks Kermit,
Great film.
What is "fraps"?
Did you adjust your video settings to record at that resolution or is this what "fraps" does.
edit - I looked it up. http://www.fraps.com
Only works in windows vista. I have xp.
It makes great game videos though.

http://www.fraps.com
Free version allows you to record 30 seconds at a time and it also put's it's name overlaid on all recordings at the very top. Run the software in the background and setup the software before using it. It's very simple to use.
I used the free version to make this film. I recently purchased the software for $37 for future use.
More of your questions can be found at their website.
Game runs at 1360x768, so fraps will record at that resolution. (You can tell it to record at 1/2 of your current resolution if your computer is too slow to record at full res.)
Edit:
It works for Windows XP too. Trust me, you misread their information.
-
Kermi how did you crop the film down from what you recorded in game so there was no text buffer etc.
-
Awesome Film Kermit. Enjoyed every second of it.
UNI.
-
Pretty Damn COOL!!! Were gonna have to talk about getting me set up to do some film work too.

Goldy, if you want to do cropping with WMM, I can not tell you how to do it since I don't know much about that program. I used a crop tool in Vegas.
Windows Media Encoder (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5691ba02-e496-465a-bba9-b2f1182cdf24&displaylang=en)
In the past, I used this to encode and crop files. It's a very non-user friendly program and it took me awhile to get it to work. I'm sure there are other programs that are more user friendly to work with. It's free to download, assuming you have a legitimate copy of WinXP on your machine. PM me or start a new thread if you need further help. I'm sure you will have more questions after downloading the program. I'll help ya out.

Id get Vegas but Im poor haha. I wish I could afford it though. Thanks for the link kermi Ill see what I can do. O also Ill send you a PM tomorrow with the orders from DGS as you requested since it is taking so long for the forums to open.
-
Thanks Husky.

Here's a quick Poster for the film. If you haven't downloaded it, use that pic to get a glimps of the video quality.

Kermit that was excellent! I REALLY enjoyed it.
What is the music from?
What kind of system do you have?
-
Bravo! Well done.
-
hey kermit, thanks for the tips on 2 pass rendering, really helped me out

I agree that parts should be used in an upcoming commercial, sadly HTC uses .ahf footage only.:(

I don't think that's true. HTC has asked before in the past for avi files in a certain format and resolution.
-
I'm pretty sure the current footage, by sanjini(?) is shot using trackIR, so it wouldn't be .AHF.

Never saw that, I just remember for the last three commercials they wanted .ahf footage.
And yes, Sanjini made that film. However it's been so long since I've seen it that I didn't realize he used TrackIR.
-
I just watched it again and it looks like there may be a mix of footage from .ahf and maybe fraps. The views in the gunner position seem to be TrackIR.
-
I never recorded it with AH doing the Alt+R thing. It was just a normal fight with someone in the Main Arena.
Somtimes I wonder if I don't tell people how it's made, that it will make it more like magic, but then if I don't share the info, then others won't share their tricks to film making. I figure if I can help someone else, then maybe I can enjoy a film by someone else as well.
Edit:
Nevermind, I think Clerick is talking about another film.
2nd edit:
No problem finky, I'm glad I've been able to figure out how to do a 2 pass encoding. I've tried to do it over the years and it's always been difficult, until recently. New technologies makes stuff simple sometimes.
Now, if only my next film, whatever it may be, can just be as good...

I can't quite recall if I used the Media Encoder for the WMV conversion, or if I did it straight through vegas when I did my film. Either way, one was faster than the other. I've made game movies for years now have preferred WMV over Divx or Xvid.

Yes, he is talking about the film on the main page of Aces High made by Sanjini. "Luftwaffe Guncams"

I'm afraid he's confusing it with the old AH commercial, the one made by Waffle. Sanjini's movie has no gunners shot in it, it's just guncam shots in black and white. You still can see it clicking on the link on the Main page.

Very nice!
Like I said in the General Discussion forum:

Very nicely made indeed, and an important message to the community.
If I have to comment on one thing it must be the use of the old models. Not so important for the Yak, but the cockpit of the Ki kind of ruins the visual aspect of the film. The smoothness and flow of motion, especially with Track IR does much to make up for it though.

Kermits next avatar I bet.
Very nice film , and philosophical too.
I feel the message of the film is lost on most.
I believe in the "message" of the film, but I will still take my fair share of "cheap" kills. Cherries, B&Z, the occasional vulch. If the odds are really against me, I will even take some HO shots.
-
UP! I had too :D
-
I guess the DGS film has been cancelled due to production costs and the writers strike. :(
-
That's an odd way of looking at it.:lol
-
great movie, I loved the music.
