Here's a great story for all you 47 drivers.....
Happened yesterday afternoon in Bisland. For those that do not recongize my callsign, I fly for the Rook's.
Field 17 was held by the Rook's and was under heavy attack by the Bishop's. The Bishop's held fields 19 and 18. We had field 20.
Caveman and I decided to take the heat off the attack and launched from F20 in our 17's. Our objective was to flatten F19 and F18.
After the first pass on F19, CJ headed on to F18 and left me to finish off F19. I did and landed at F19 to quicken my departure in a C-47 for F19.
To my suprise the only field in Bisland that we had troops at was F21. Woa, this is gonna be a long flight.
So I climb into my C-47 and head towards F19. Things are looking great. Little traffic between me and the field! But I know time is running out. It's gonna be close. Spent to much time cleaning up after taking aa down. Should have been the last thing I hit! Oh well....
When I arrive at F19, from the south, I find the AA back-up. So I do a 180 and land. Taxi over to the ridge and park-it on a nice dark spot! Grab the radio and start calling for a strike. To my surprise, no bombers are near by.
One by one my countrymen come in bombers to help only to be shot down over the field. Meanwhile, furballs are all around me. I see a Pony fly the ridge line above me. I get ready to bail. Whew, closest approach 3.9K. Anyway back to the radio calling for help.
Another fighter passes overhead at 2.1K. He doesn't see me. Again I relax. Back to the radio and watch the takeoffs and landings at the field. Most of these are in the 5-8K range! All the time giving intel to my countrymen!
BINGO, someone makes it in and takes the AA out. Me spinsum' up and fly the 8-10K or so to the field. Looking good.........
Troops out the door. Turn back and land north of the tower. Here comes TerneToo. Oh no! Gonna be close. Me thinks TerneToo is gonna take out the troopers, but he's headed straight for me. He shoots me. I'm hoping the troops made it. But after a min or two I guess some are dead. So I start again from F21!
All along TerneToo is asking me where I came from. He said one min no one is behind him. Next time he looks back there's a 47 on the field!
Anyway, on the next drop it only takes 1 or 2 troops I'm thinking so I go straigt in. Yup, I was right and I get the field.
All I can say is that this one for the books. I spent over an hour and half on the ground waiting for the AA to be taken down. I had fighters fly all around me and never saw me! Probably lost 5 lbs from all the sweat!
You might ask what I did for that hour and half? Simple, I made dinner for my wife and earned a few browny points for later use! She did kinda get upset that I had to run between rooms during dinner. But hey, life is good!

Nice story Bull. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Since I was there and died uncountless times trying to get a 26 or 17 in there, I recall it. Was fun. My last up, was F4Uc hvy or Niki....but lost wings after turning to you.....that is why I couldnt evade away from your location. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) But glad ya got a "GET OUT OF JAIL CARD" hehehe
I kinda miss flying right now, so even dying a lot give me a laugh and a smile! Thanks for waiting! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Cobra and I just finished a real sweet one against Rook F2... I did the field in 2 passes (ack and dar) and he climbed the mountain and dropped a moment later. My engine coughed dry as I made the last pass, and he died on the drop, but we got the field!
Those NOE runs in C47's are breathtaking! Done a few myself.... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Some of my favorite missions have been flying a 47. Also, doing a 1 bomber 1 47 stealing of a base is fun too. Rocket and I do it whenever we can hook up (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif). F1 is not safe while we are on together (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif).

Great Story Bull....
Kieren did an awesome job on our F2 sortie today. We took different routes to get to the same place....the timing worked out great.
Those 47 NOE runs are great....more tense than dogfighting alot of times, especially when threading the needle through traffic.
Also, Kieren was trying to save me from some embarrasement by only mentioning that I died after dropping troops. In reality, after dropping, I was looking back at the great job I did to place them around the map room, and I stalled and augered in....DOH!
Anyway, those 47 missions can be alot of fun.

Heres one for you:
A few days ago I was flying a high alt patrol in my La-5FN, we knights were down to three bases and I was keeping and eye on F9 making sure there were no impending threats. So southerly I flew keeping around 21k and a sharp eye out for "enemies of the fatherland" so to speak.
As it seemed rather quiet I swung a little farther south looking for any planes taking off from the enemy field. As I approached the field I spotted a 190 fairly low taking off. Circling lazily I debated buzzing him to see if he was awake and aware of me. When off to the East of the base two close formation climbing dots about 7k away grabbed my attention.
Immediatly I banked and dove, mashing the throttle. Trimming even I watched the two dots turn into a pair of Macchi's climbing easterly about 200 yds from each other. "Drat, with a wingman formation they will see me coming far away." On a spur of brilliance I remembred a long ago fight with Hangtime where he managed to sit in a blindspot behind the Macchi for a 15k descent without me seeing him. Immediatly I dropped alt so that I was very deep in their low six and climbed up to them. the numbers rolled down quickly to 2.5k then started slowing down. I was at 12k and losing closure speed fast! Still they remained locked in their formation oblivious to me. slowly I gained on them, 1.9, 1.5 1.2..
as I came within 400 yds I lined up behind the trailing plane and let a long burst into his right wing. The wing shattered like glass and the plane violently whipped to the right spinning like a corkscrew. Desperatly I pulled to the left and kicked the rudder hard. Too close! The whole plane filled my sights! I was almost colloding with his rudder! As my plane swung hard to the left I laced the entire length of his plane with 20mm shells lighting the whole plane up one end to the other. Rolling away I pulled hard and he slipped past my belly so close I could feel the vibration of his motor through my floorboards. Looking back I tried in vain to see the the effect on the second plane.
Banking left and right I had no visual until the buffer gave me the kill. Far below I saw the pilots sitting in silk frantically waving a solitary finger at me. I circled the field waiting for another victim. Soon enough the entire area was full of enemy planes.. all out for me! Deciding that discretion was the better part of valour I performed a few desultory passes at planes until I dropped below 8k then WEP and ran for home. Wherupon I was treated to many many wonderfull shots of Vodka as I regaled my comrades by the fire!
