spitzer drops the plan (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/14/nyregion/14spitzer.html?hp)

Naturally, the democrat doesn't care about right or wrong, only what his poll numbers say.
Opposition to the proposal sent his poll numbers plunging and stalled his broader agenda.
God forbid the democrats stick by an ideal or belief.

god forbid somebody listen to their constituency.
god forbid.

Care to define constituency?
Surely you don't mean all the people who are here in the country illegally and shouldn't be allowed to vote much less have a driver's license. You don't mean that, do you? Really?

no.
i meant the opposite.

I was kind of drunk last night. I hope no one (except arlo) took offense at how aggressive I was.
I apologize.

well.. klinton listened to his constituency.. he put a big ol wet finger out into the wind on every issue and looked at the poll numbers to see what he thought about an issue.
arnie in kalifornia is getting to be much like that. I do not think that is a good thing. lets say that a person is elected by people who think illegals should have licenses.. lets say it is 20% and that gets him the win.. he promised these people he would work for that and then he reverses when the poll numbers go bad?
So should a politician make every decision (that people see) based on a new vote? a new poll?
I would be ticked if I voted for someone based on his saying he would allow no new gun laws and that he believed in the second amendment and then he passed some ban on semi autos or something.

lazs, this is exactly the type of reform that you have been preaching...i gather that you don't believe in constituencies, yet you believe in reform of the illegals issue...so how do you expect it happen? stroke of a tyrant?

When their ideals and beliefs are that wrong, then I'm glad he changed his mind. Whether he changed his mind because he was scared or because he realized he was wrong, I'm not sure I care. Either way, the more this happens the more the illegal immigrants and their supporters will realize they need to step the hell back and put their entitlement attitude down.
When they stand in line and enter legally like my great great great grandfathers, like my wife and her parents, and like every other legal immgrant who has made the US a great nation, then we'll have something to discuss. Until then, they're just a bunch of thugs who got a little sympathy and are trying to turn that into a bagful of "rights".

And now you know why I refer to George Bush, Sr. as "Satan" :)

88 not sure I get your point. I would not vote for a person who thought illegals should have a license or who thought they should go to our schools or have any benifiets at all.
I am pointing out that my stance has not changed and I don't really care what way the wind is blowing this week. I want to vote for someone who will do what he says.
