Title: Goof off AH day?
Post by: toonces3 on November 15, 2007, 12:16:33 AM
Hi all.
I don't know if this has ever been done.  I remember reading about back in the old days there were eggs you could discover in the maps, like dragons or big beer cans or something.

Anyway, I had this idea over Halloween, and forgot about it, and it occured to me again today in my ocean acoustics class:

Has there ever been, or could there ever be, a sort of 'joke' or 'goof off' day in one of the arenas?  By that, I mean folks would log on, and in the plane set there would be something goofy like Snoopy's doghouse, or a magic carpet, or a B-52 or something.

I think it would be hilarious to log on and folks were zipping around in Snoopy's doghouse Red Baron style.

I know this is totally stupid, but I was thinking about it today, and well, there it is.

See ya,
Toonces

Sounds interesting, but shouldn't this be in the wishlist section?

Toonces, I've seen a few oddball things, and I'll relate my experiences. On Christmas Eve, HiTech beats up his dad and gets on his PC, and fires up the magical sleigh and reindeer, flying around saying "ho ho ho mary crismus[sic]". People whine incessantly about the dark, and how much night sucks. They threaten to quit.

Once, they were doing some equipment maintenance or something, and IIRC, there was no score. As a gag, the only plane enabled was the P40-B. The whining surpassed Christmas Eve. They threaten to quit.

During the convention, the RV-8 was enabled, complete with the GUA8a whatever- the giant 30mm rotary cannon of death or something.  You'd think HT had personally skewered, barbequed, and consumed someeone's firstborn. They threaten to quit.

Whenever some measure is taken to liven things up a bit, people just start pissing and moaning and acting like the world has ended. There have been other instances I'm sure, but those are the ones that I recall most clearly. The christmas episode repeats annually. It could be fun, but the whiners suck the joy out of it.

Good times. It was then and there I knew HT was the current reincarnated form of Loki von McJokesterburg.

During one convention, HiTech introduced flying PT Boats. My brother, FlaydONE had a great time as he discovered where HiTech himself was spawning his PT a few thousand feet in the air, and proceeded to fly around it in circles, effectively camping it in a flight of B26 "gunships". HiTech died to Flayd's waist gunners a few times.

Evil Con Mission 2002 - Trojan sheep which could be walked, run or warped around the map. Each sheep carried 6 50 cals :D  At one point we lined up on opposite sides of an NME RW and opened up as players tried to take off.

Funny as hell and yeah, lotta p.o'd players who threatened to quit :lol

The sad part is, is there dont have to be any special occasion for people to whine to no end, i think we should let them quit;)

This is something I wish they had more of, as I understand it, back in the day they did have night flying in the MA, but a couple whiners about it and it was taken out.  I think it adds another level to the game to do night flying, and if you just turn up your gamma some you can see fine, when I go in offline mode I set it to night and I can see con's easily.

Also how about maybe some flying Hover rounds or Rascals?  You know those scooters you see on tv for old people, now that would be funny to dogfight that.

It's so Hip to complain!! ....it makes you look cool!  ....NOT!

I used to love night flying! ....and I loved the AK pizza map as well,  yet both were beat down by the cry baby's.

Let's make some changes so the Cry baby's quit! ....and I hope the door hits them on the butt when they leave!

It was on the mindano map in AH1.  All the map easter eggs were lost in the transition to AH2 because only standard shapes were allowed at first.

I'll 2nd that.  It would be a hoot.  Little blue balls of light whizzing around.  Only random players informed of their availability.  Only selected dates, and I can hear it now...  "WTF was that?"  or others not mentioning it at all for fear of ridicule..:aok

:lol:t

I still remember logging on and running into those RV-8's wondering huh?  What's an RV-8?  Man, they were wicked.

I threatened to quit.  :D

I figured something like that must have happened at some point.

LOL, I hope I see the sleigh this year!

It should be unannounced.  And you could do it in an arena that is generally unpopulated like EW or AvA (don't get mad now).

Like, New Year's Eve night, instead of the normal AvA setup, you only enable a doghouse and a German Tri-plane and let em fight it out.  Everyone will probably be loaded anyway.

Mathis, for the Evil Con Mishun, HT armed the thing with 2 30mm cannons. (GUsomething8somethingA?) They were only available that night, and they were death incarnate. It was absolutely hysterical.

Toonces, HT's been on the last few years Christmas Eve, and I think he does a tour of the arenas. Do not shoot santa.

From 200 "Shooting Santa gets you booted"

A few minutes later

"Shooting Santa results in locked accounts"

:lol

Anyone who whines about night.
be it one night a year or every night.
Its because they refuse to realise their monitor is set up incorrectly.

I like the idea of the oddities though. snoopy.etc

People always complain and at least HT gets that.  One thing that might help is putting up a message of the day and saying stuff on 200 to get the word out.  Folks don't like having their cheese moved but changing how you present changes will make a big difference.  In the end, having some spice thrown in will be more positive than negative.

I enjoy taking up a RV8 when available and getting proxy kills on folks.  I would love to see night come back in one of the redundant LW arenas or at least some changes.

 Bring it on Santa!

BTW, I ran into a swarm of those killer RV-8's in the canyon mountain passes on Trinity.

Bring back Trinity (w/o the killer RV-8's).

OK, back to the topic.

I agree, and I bet alot of other players do too, the ones who would complain are the squeakers, the noobs, and milk runners, but I think a majority of the AH population would like to see atleast one of the LW arenas with night that comes around when the time on the clock calls for it to be night.  I've gone in the offline arena and turned it to night and I could see just fine, just gave the game a new feel, which is something the game really needs right now.

Something I always thought would be interesting, even if not as a gag but a special event maybe, would be have a REAL, full realism day, or event.

It you run into one of your countrymen's planes, taking off or landing, you both get wrecked like you would in the real world. Run into ANY plane up in the air and you both get wrecked.

The flack over your field is just as deadly to you as the flack over enemy fields.

We have a little bit of it now with rounds bouncing off friendly planes and coming right back into your plane, but make it so any hit on any plane creates the same damage, friendly or not.

In other words, make the game just like the real world. Think of what a bloodbath that would be. I imagine it would all some of us could do just to get the plane off the ground with a game like that, at least until we got used to it.

You would have a hard time spawning to start flight.  You'd all have to sit in the tower and find some way to all orderly get on the field.

Well, they could just make a slight change and have planes spawn a few feet apart on the runway, but look out when you start taking off. The guy in front of you might be slower!

Enough bombs and you could destroy the giant squid.

If you look down and to the side, in the seat of a La, you'll see a vodka bottle poking out from under your seat.  I want to say that a US fighter has a pizza or a pizza box under it's seat too.

Me, I would be entertained by a valley with Godzilla in it with Rodan circling above, or King Kong providing air defense on a tower in the enemies capital.

Didn't one of the Corsairs have a bottle of "J.D." sticking out from under the seat?
