Is that straight from the camera or do you have to doctor it up a little? Mine never turn out that good
Title: yesterday
Post by: JB88 on November 15, 2007, 09:13:32 PM
straight from the camera and then adjusted using all available information in the file.  no manipulation of pixels.

these are High Dynamic Range photos; images made from a composite of bracketed exposures.

for these i used 5 exposures each.

that said, most photos can be improved with a few standard adjustments that are to digital what filters and exposures might do in a darkroom.

Great atmosphere.  I like them both but the first one is my favorite.

I would tweak the horizon on the first just a hair CCW before I printed it though.  It's something I can't help but notice now that I've started reading on Photocamel.

too late... it's already entered on photocamel for the HDR contest.  (been hanging around there alot lately)

:)

i noticed that too...i was using the back waterline as the centering agent, but it does seem to lean a bit right.  i noticed it too...too late for the contest.

alas.

I just went to your site. Very cool stuff.

My favorite is the B&W one you titled "wishbone". Very Ansel Adamsish.

Wow.

I have a new background for my desktop!

Very, very impressed with the photos.  But then again I know you're one of those touchy-feely great artists (just stay away from the mind altering chemicals and the booze...)!

:D

Took a look through your website.  Your composition is amazing.  Even with some photo manipulation you still have to have a great basic shot.  Is this how you make your living?  If not, you should.

lol! my chemical is coca-cola classic (true) and i still get lit on 3 beers.  (mmmrrrright)

thanks for the compliments guys.  it really goes a long ways.

that's exactly what i am trying to do diablo.  i am trying very hard to make this my job.  i enjoy it very much.  more than painting for sure.

so now i am working on trying to sell some prints and put the funds towards getting a decent camera.  (would you believe that all of those shots are made with a 100 dollar canon digital that i picked up @ wal-mart?) (true) (i've pushed it about as far as it will go though...time to get a real toy.)

thanks again.

:)

adobe lightroom.  it's relatively inexpensive and great for streamlining and organizing pics.  the website came straight out of the final gallery output.

ran into a few minor snags but all in all it was pretty easy to do.

they have a free trial at adobe.com if you'd like to give it a try.

That's a nice mast in the first picture.  What happened to the boat?

dunno.  possibly a hurricane victim...though i don't recall seeing it there until recently and we didn't have a single one this last season.  we had some storms though...and some really serious torrential downpours that might have filled it to the gills.

(shrugs)

I just looked through your site; I didn't realize you had one.  You've got some fantastic shots there.

My favorite is palm (panama city beach)
I'd link it but I don't know how.

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so faraway.
Now it looks as though they're here to stay.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly,I'm not half the man I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me,
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she had to go
I don't know she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong,
Now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Why she had to go
I don't know she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong,
Now I long for yesterday.

the boat and the old launch are right across from where i live...on the launch picture i live on the property just across the bayou...right of the property with the building pictured in the background.  (ticky tacky little cottage on the water)

it's called hogtown bayou.

a nice little corner of the world.

You should add the black and white textured self portrait you had on your daily picture site a couple weeks ago to your augustbach site.  It's my favorite so far.  The texture is way cool.

What process did you use to make it if you don't mind my asking?

Post by: JB88 on December 06, 2007, 12:19:06 PM
thanks!  i liked that one to.

i am guessing that this the one that you mean...

for this one, i took it on a white background but i washed it out more with some masking and then regenerated some of the edges to get a good line all around before applying some serious contrasting and curve adjustments and then finishing it with the poster edges filter in photoshop.

the original was quite terrible.

:D

Yep, that's the one.  Your pose, expression and the texture all come together and make it a great piece.

Thanks for the general technique description.  I've started to play around in CS3 and will have to give it a try.
