Title: Peace more dangerous than war

More active members of the military died during two years of peacetime in the early 1980s than died during a two-year period of war in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to a government report.
Source-Congressional Research Service (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,311644,00.html)

Ran across this researching some statistics. One prevalent technique to spin numbers is to present them in a vacuum. I've come to realize that perspective is an illusive commodity. As "they" say: with every answer comes more questions and the more you understand the less you know.

According to the World Health Organization there are over 150,000 deaths due to injuries sustained in war worldwide so far this year. I guess most wars don't matter much, never hear much about them.

This thing freaks me out (http://www.poodwaddle.com/clocks2.htm)

I don't draw any conclusions from this type of data because I can't hold it all in my head. I'm not sure what's important, not sure what to prioritize, not sure who to believe. I just thought it would be interesting to post this in a forum where so many seem so sure of so much.

Sorry for rambling.

Man, I knew the 80s sucked, but I didn't realise that they were that bad.

I had the best time between Jan 1, 1980 and December 31, 1989.

Everything before and since pales in comparrison :p

Thats what my brother says too.  He also said a girl (or two of them) will do just about anything if you put enough coke in them.
