What kind of person could walk up to that thing and whack it over the head with a  club?  Some people are sick.  I'm not against hunting...if there is at least a challenge.

Its not hunting. Its harvest. It isn't about sport or cruelty, its about efficiency. Your response is entirely emotional.

It's about making easy money at the expense of taking the life of a beautiful and innocent and defenseless baby creature... not unlike the baby creature at the top of this thread.

Thank God for giving us humans tender emotions... I know guys chide themselves and each other into acting tough and emotionless; manning-up and all that.

But...  there would be no need for that self-chiding, and interactive chiding, if you were all without tender emotions.

Many of you will show those emotions to those of us women who are worthy of sharing that with you and we in turn protect that so you are safe to do so.

I think it takes more manly guts to show them amongst yourselves when approprate, than not.

Having and, at approprate times, showing tender emotions makes you human and very desirable.

Save the manning-up for when its called for, I am thinking, for that too is desirable in a man.

I honestly don't envy you guys feeling you have to be "manned-up guys" all the time... it's got to be very hard on you all at times.

Can anyone say stem-cell research?  Not speaking about you Tigeress, but the same people that would deride others for clubbing baby seals will gladly allow you to hoover a baby human and use the remains for research.

uh-huh... the part with emotions, a conscious, an elevated awareness of self and the universe, coupled with a human value system and an inescapable human intellect.

We individually, and as a species, decide what is right and wrong  inspite of raw instincts. Sex notwithstanding hahahahaha

We don’t cavort naked in trees anymore eating bananas and throwing poop at each other. :rofl

The embronic stem cell collection is a moot point, I learned this week.
There is a new way to get these stem cells.

Human life is precious but I would not call male masterbation murder of millions of potential humans.

When we females masterbate, nothing human dies.

You can hardly equate masturbation with abortion, especially late-term abortion.

I too am excited about the prospects of that experiment, though my understanding was that they had no yet been able to do it with human cells.

Each woman has to decide what to do with her body.

Choosing abortion is a decision I have never had to make, Thank God, and I, nonetheless, support another woman's decision about her own body.

But lets not hi-jack the topic of the thread, K?

OK so you're halfway to the pin on a 220 yard par 3 which leaves you about 110 yards on the inside of a left dog leg. Slight breeze in your face.

Just which club would you use to get most of your Baby Seal onto the greens close enough for a decent putt?

I say a 5 Iron. What say you?

:p

So, just to make sure I understand - because you like the way the seals look, or because they aren't mature, its somehow wrong to utilize them as a resource? Its OK in the case of other animals if they aren't so pretty, or are older?

There's nothing wrong with emotion. You just need to recognize it for what it is. I am not saying it doesn't have worth, or is worth less than logic, but I would recommend that logic should take precedence when discussing what is right or wrong. Its OK if you choose to make your personal decisions based on how your emotions influence you, but I don't think that's fair when commenting on the decisions of others.

This isn't about "manning up", my point is rather that what emotion may cause you to perceive in the actions of others isn't always valid. It may cause you to misunderstand their motivations. Its even in this case caused you to misunderstand my point.

Thanks for the compliment, I like to think I'm a good guy myself :)

But I think that whether or not I need to club seals in order to make a living/provide for my family. Thankfully, I'm not in the position to need to, but if I were, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I have killed animals by crushing their skulls many times. They didn't seem to suffer as much as animals I have seen killed by other methods. Disruption of brain tissue acts quickly. When you get right down to it, if you've made the choice to kill, clubbing when done properly isn't cruel at all IMO. Its all about mechanics, physiology, and the right tool.

Of course, all that's based on logic. If you allow emotion to cloud your thought process, you may make unreasonable judgments about other's ethics. Make your own decisions based on feelings if you so choose, but is it fair to impose those feelings on others?

mmmm... feelings, like opinions... we all got em. I hear ya.

There are jobs and then there are jobs.

Personally, I could not live with myself if I clubbed beautiful baby seals for a living. I am sure those who do, do so dispassionately. I certianly do not buy baby seal fur.

Had I been a Russian bomber pilot flying with The Night Witches I would have bombed those Nazis as much and as often as possible, but then they weren't baby seals rather invaders of my Motherland bent on killing... especially all Jews found in their path... babies and all.

Btw, I grew up in SW Tejas so I know a few slang words... hint hint :D
