No thanks giving day over here in Finland, but I'm drinking Chivas Regal 18 y/o. Might as well drink for it then. Right now it is 4am and I'm up at this time due to a bastardly cold that struck me on an exam week.

Bottle of Riesling down. Deciding on next step.

The choices:

1.)   chivas
2.)   Kahlua
3.)   Stock 84 Brandy (cheap)
4.)   Remy Martin X.O.
5.)   Bottle of gin that's been in the freezer for 3 years.
6.)   More white wine

Will report back.

Finished a last beer, got a shot of vodka (didn't mean it), smoked half of the cigar, done drinking now. 5:20 here, time to take a nap....

Happy Thanksgiving! We don't celebrate it here, but there always has to be a reason for a drink or two.

Hey, Boroda....

You're a good bastard, in my book.

Can I stay with you when I go into self-imposed exile to the motherland? It'll be only for a couple months. A year at the most. I've got some people that know some people--you know how it is.

Oh.. got to try Remy Martin, I haven't opened the bottle yet. I've had enough gin already. I do still remember the headache brought by white wine from last week - I didn't even drink much! I hate white wine.

I had a rum and coke earlier in the day, as well as a few beers throughout.  I would probably have eaten and drunk more had I not been sick.

Gave the Remy Martin a shot. Literally. I guess I just don't understand Cognac. Time to soldier on.

Sorry to hear you're sick, Sailor.

Rediscovered the cherry-infused Everclear that my dad concocted last year. Tastes amazing.

1:05am  Here at work (hospital IT staffer)

Cafeteria served up a great Thanksgiving dinner for us 3rd shifters.

The challenge:  making it til 8am without the turkey making me sweeeeepy!

On the good side, its a quiet night and the ED hasn't been busy.  We like that.

When I read "everclear" - I first though it's something like window-washer liquid

Home-made Cherry is a great thing!

It's 190 proof grain alcohol before the infusion, no idea what it comes out to after but it's not for the meek.

The head's okay. Thanks for asking.

I did find that everclear gives remarkably low impact hangovers, even better than good vodka. Makes sense, I guess. When you don't put anything but alcohol into a drink, there's that much less garbage to gum up the works the next morning.

I sometimes drink pure alcohol, usually in grog. It all depends on the quantity. I drink in quantities that are incompatible with life sometimes :(

In the mountains we carry pure ethanol too, there I prefer it straight, chasing with water and some onion, garlic and dry black bread (nothing much to eat before the dinner is cooked on a campfire). The problem is that when you mix it with water - it produces heat, so even coldest water from a mountain brook gets warm. And it feels like the same crap but you have more to swallow. 50ml of ethanol after walking for 8-12 hours with a full load doesn't make you drunk, you just feel as good as new for maybe 2 hours, all the fatigue is gone.

Boroda, are you sure you aren't a vehicle of some sort?

I am sure I don't run on gasoline. :D But I surely run on heavy fuel, and I still work with people...

I thought that this "doping" effect on physically exhausted people is quite common, at least on people from Slavic nations (and some others too, like Jews). Even people who don't drink at all and have to follow an order to drink the above mentioned 50ml get the same effect.

I've felt the effect you're talking about. Only it's never lasted because I don't think I've ever stopped at 50ml.
