We haven't taken a family portrait in a long time, so today's Thanksgiving dinner seemed like a good occasion. The photography arrangement was inspired by Norman Rockwell's Thanksgiving painting. Nana agreed to don an apron and Papa put on a coat and tie, like the grandparents at the head of the table in the Rockwell painting. Our setting, lighting and the number and ages of people in our family are not very similar to the Rockwell painting, but I figured that a similar arrangement would look good and capture a bit of the feel and look. I applied a light oil painting effect to this image:

We always take a silly one.

This doesn't look as candid as Rockwell's, but I like it more.

Hey eskimo, why is Rowan Atkinson at your table?

Nice job :)

Nice photos. The wife has beautiful blue eyes.
Looks like a good time had by all!

Fine looking family you have there, Eskimo.

I bet that’s a great show; I’ve always been a big fan of his. Even as a child I had a couple of his prints hanging in my room; 50 airplane posters and two Rockwells.
I don’t know if it would be possible for Granny to hold a 30# turkey on a platter with her arms outstretched somewhat. She must be steadying herself against the table. That’s just a huge bird.
Thanks for the compliments.
About my wife’s eyes, she’s worn glasses since she was a child, 20/400 vision. I finally talked her into Lasik surgery this spring. It was expensive but her vision is now 20/15.

Ten second timer and a tripod.
The camera and tripod were backed up to a window and I was a bit rushed. I don’t like pictures that are not square with the horizon and verticals. I get annoyed with myself if I have to adjust a picture one degree, these were five degrees off based on the wall behind Papa. Everyone was hungry and concerned about the food getting cold; we only took a few shots and didn’t get everyone looking at the camera in one shot. The bottom picture is a compilation of two pictures.

Beautiful family Eskimo, you're a very blessed man.

I suspected you had a tripod and timer but the smiles were good. I've wondered which produces more genuine smiles, a tripod or photographer?
