Good thread, and a big salute to modelers everywhere.  Some of those flights I want to watch from a bunker with peepholes.

There's nothing quite as satisfying as watching your hard work and money smash into a million little pieces.

Man i wish they had camcorders back in the days i was learning R/C.

Sig Cadet w/Supertiger 40(3 ch):

Taught myself how to fly at 15 on this one(no instruction..only C/L exp)This one lasted me 1 summer until i learned that rx batteries only last about 2 hours...It went out of control at full throttle, came sreaming down almost verticle and smashed into the concrete 10' in front of some guy hitting a tennis ball against the school wall.Even the engine was destroyed.Hmm..maybe i should get some MAAC insurance.

Top Flight "Metrik" 2 meter sailplane:

My first R/C kit build(Kadet was built by someone else)Stuck a Black Widow cox .049 on nose. This flew great once it got up there and was coming in for another grease job landing when i noticed the soccer goal posts..too damn late...completely destroyed left wing...used plans to build a new wing and am still bringing this crate out to the club 26 yrs later(w OS .10 now)

Lake Buccaneer(BlueBird .28) kit:

This "flew" only twice...First time i got it airborne,it flew around ok after trimming it out..Then i tried a loop,it snaprolled at top and flat-spinned all the way into the pond..Something to do with top-wing mounted engines(w a + angle of thrust) and loops don't go together...The second attempt was up north at a Matt's(the jinx) cottage..It was a little choppy and no matter what i tried into the wind it would not get up on step(or take off)..Next thing i know the reciever went ded(water got in battery compartment) and it was taxiing at full power when it slowly turned around, and when it pointed WITH the wind,it got up on step and took off by itself, climbed left and came down hard..smashing into the side of the neighbour's parked 20 footer.i have a pix of me in the water swimming to remove the evidence.

Piper Cub(BlueBird .28)

This was one of the first "ARFs" that you now see almost everywhere.Flew great for a month or so..until i did some violent spins and rolls & the battery pack became unplugged...My best friend who was always there(like some sik bastage who goes to car races to see smash-ups started calling me "Crash"...i started calling him "Jinx")

Top Flite P47D40(OS .60)

Finally joined a club after buying this kit at a trade show.It was missing a lot of preformed balsa parts(prolly why he was selling it at show) and piszed off the hobby store owner when i went back & walked out with sheets of 3/4" balsa among other things...my first plane w retracts/flaps.Spent all winter on this one..Took it out to the club along with "Jinx" & a disposable camera.Got the club guy to check it out, fired up the engine and pointed it into the wind...First flight took off nicely flew around for 5 minutes trimming & checking, all looked fine...i retracted the gear and hit full throttle, came around for a high speed pass when i heard this vibration..and then i had no elevator control & splat!Flutter had disconnected the linkage from the servo."Jinx" had used up most of the film on other people's planes so i only have 2 pix of the Jug...GGRRrrr!

Top Flite F4U Gold(.60)

This one had all the parts included and was going to be the "Jinx Breaker"..I got to the feild early so i could test fly it with nobody around. It took off, flew & landed gloriously! The jinx was broken..so i thought....The first guy to arrive at the feild(club pres) said my plane was tooo noisy. He measured it at 88Db,too loud for club(by 3Db) so he lent me a 3 bladed prop & a piece of hose which he stuck on the end of the muffler..Needless to say it sucked up most of the power, and on takeoff it lifted, stalled & SPLAT!.I heard my buddy snicker for a sec before everyone present had that moment of silence after a crash.

Top Flite F4U Gold(.60)

Same kit, different R/C club(no noise restrictions on my .60)..Took this one out away from any witnesses, and it flew great 2 or 3 times. With my confidence back up,i headed to the club with "Jinx" & my dad.It took off & flew great on a windy day..no problem for a .60 bird. Then the engine cut out at low alt..i tried to dead stik it in & on the downwind turn it spun in hard...Not to be deterred,i bought the same kit again(my 3rd) and it has sat in my garage %70 complete now for 10 years.

I still fly my Metrik and a 6' Beaver w/floats at the club every other year, but i prefer to watch other people fly with my 5yr old son.

"Jinx" was the best man at my wedding and i got to re-live all that embarrasment in front of an Italian wedding reception.

i have much better luck flying Ah2.:aok

In Carrollton, Tx. there is a hobby shop called Mike's... its a huge place now but back at his original store the walls all around the shop were filled with the tail sections of aircraft mounted to a flat piece of wood like a dear head with a date written on the bottom... I had an ugly stick mounted up there.

how in the hell did that one plane just blow up in the middle of the sky! that would be awesome to watch but that would kinda piss me off lol.

my dad had a migit mustang once. took him like 6 weeks to build it, he took it it off very first flight (we have it on film some where) and right when it took off, one of the crystals went bad in the controller and the plane dove right into the ground. fortunatly FUTABA understood what happend and replaced the whole intire plane and gave us a new controller!!! that company is the best!

also my very first plane, i had a astrohog!! it was a non arf so it took us about a good 3 months to make it. my dad tought me a lot about building planes. i had it for like 3 years and and one day i was flying it and a bee stung be on the neck. i ended up crashing it!!! it broke the engine into 3 peices lol!

we have about 6 planes now!
