Title: WWI and Korea
Post by: tommygun on November 24, 2007, 10:32:01 AM
This has probably been brought up before but since AH has the format, abilities and technology, why no WWI and Korea arenas? I know I would love it!:)

I guess I should clarify my staement. I love the WWII areanas and I can imagine I will always spend most of my time in them. I just thought a change to WWI or Korea once in a while would be nice. Plus it may bring in a new base of fliers. Thank you for your response.

It would require two whole new planesets... and our current planeset is very thin already... Id rather not.

I suspect the WWI arena would be empty like ew mw and ava.

Korea would probably end up with a high population, since for most faster is desirable. Ane the sabre and MiG 15 would likely have a very high novelty.

LW arenas would probably suffer lower numbers.

Actually HTC seems to have some interest in this idea as he mentioned the possibility of WWI and Korean arenas when the multiple Arenas were first introduced.

Thanks to your patronage Aces High has grown to the point where a single Main Arena is no longer a sufficient solution. It is time for us to move beyond a single main arena. Today during the weekly terrain change, we will be revamping our arena structure with an entirely new model. We’ve looked forward to this point because instead of just simply offering more duplicate arenas, we’ve planned to use this opportunity to diversify our offerings by making different arenas based on different time periods. So instead of having a single arena with all planes available (which naturally emphasizes late war planes), we’ll have 3 different types of Main Arenas- early-war planes, mid-war planes, and late-war planes. This will give us far more diversity.

We hope that through further growth we can add even more diverse offerings such as more time periods and perhaps even time periods outside of WWII such as WWI or the Korean War. This format will also provide more impetus for us to try and comprehensively develop the plane and vehicle set with stuff that would otherwise get swallowed up by the late-war monsters and see little use outside of special events.

I dunno...In Warbirds 2006, the WWI arena always had a pretty-good furball going on in it most of the time. Lotsa fun, too.

Me too. I've wanted to fly a Dr.1 since I saw the Dogfights episode about Werner Voss. Got a really nice desktop background of a Nieuport 17 too. :)

Ditto.   It wouldn't be "empty" as Vertex claims.

I think I'd up in the Korean war once just to see a Mig and Sabre collide in a HO.

the korean war arena wouldnt be too big on planesets.. i mean... most planes there fought in WW2 and are in-game already plus the jets are 2 versions per side (mig 15/17 vs p80/F86).

same for vehicles.

In fact, korean war arena would be a better dogfighting arena since the planeset is narrower.. the furballs wont have you facing an insane mix of t&b, B&Z, cannon spraying planes.

id love to go into the korean war because ive always wanted to find a jet online game exaclty like this one. so jets would be freaking awesome. plus it would be even cooler because every 1 would be noobs and there wouldnt be any big dawg of the arena. so it would be really coool!

Korean war would probably be not that great of idea, I can see a Vietnam Arena considering the plane set would be much larger, but maps would have to be generally huge.

I know Falcon 4 had a great vietnam mod that was pretty nice, plane set was about 12 or so, use of B-52's, F100's F105s F4s Mig 21s, 19s, 17s A4 skyhawk

That would be pretty interesting imo, F-4 not being a dogfighter vs a Mig-19 that is.

I have to agree with an earlier comment that dogfighting is what AH is all about, If we got into Viet Nam were talking about missles and frankly I wouldn't be interested. WWI started the dogfight and WWII exemplified it. Korea still stayed with guns but by the time Viet Nam got here technology had us fighting with more missles. I worked on the F111 in the AF during Nam and it really doesn't mesh wit AH.

Not entirely based on missiles, if you recall F-4's had to have a gun added just to combat the migs since missile hit ratio was terrible.

I think the complexity of Vietnam era planes would be a problem - moddelling missiles and some of the more advanced radar and avionics would potentially take ages.

Korea might be interesting, but I would be all over a WW1 arena.

How about enabling 2 opposing fighters from WW1 & Korea so we can furball/dual in DA?

Spanish Civil war = EW arena with different skins plus a few biplanes.

I used to like to go to the WWI arena and the Korean arenas in AW as a diversion, especially the WWI arena although neither was ever very full (kind of like EW/MW now).

In Korea the P-38 and even the P-51 were the ultimate turn-fighters.  The good thing about Korea would be we'd finally NEED the A-26 Invader.

You agree it's doable with a few additions the game doesn't have yet. Thanks for your support. :D
