Apparently they'll try to kill you if you don't pick the right name for your teddy bear in a Muslim (religion of peace) society. Seems to me like just another group so fanatically zealous that they find any excuse to go batsh**t insane.

First of all "dumb" would be forgetting fact that Church managed to slaughter quiet a number of people for the past 1000 years.
Secondly the whole principal of Christian faith is to be afraid of going to hell.
You pretty much have to believe in God,or else, you going to hell where you will burn for eternity but God will still love ya
:aok
Main difference between USA and Iran (or Iraq for example)is that they ruled by religion.Actually ever since that religious salamander came to power with religious pedophile as his spiritual adviser things when down hill very fast,so to answer to your question, yes.Church in power is horrible thing to have.
-
i agree Kgb, sort of.
one thing i disagree with is that the church will turn back to burning at the stake.
christian church evolved past those methods and will not return to them, muslims just need to catch up.

follower: "So great one, what teachings have you got today for us humble people?"
cult leader: "hey what now? religion? oh yes....umm....like...yeah...i got $2m now so to be honest im not really that pissed off with the world anymore....like...kinda this whole thing was a load of bollocks because i was depressed...umm...you all go off and enjoy doing....er....things.....be good to your mothers and dont covert thy brothers fox....or something..."[sip]

Puhlease is right. I suspect there are more than a few just like you who actually believe that ridiculuosly stupid statement though. You want to make an idiotic comment don't expect to not be called on it. There are more Christians in the world than Muslims and if they wanted your head for a cartoon they have the "power" to take it.
-
Might consider factoring in the actual percentage of Muslims that really want someone's head for a cartoon, however. It's a really safe bet it's less than 100%. Probably good money on less than 10%. But that's where it's an actual wager and damned hard to nail down, eh? And is it really Islam? ;)
http://www.altmuslim.com/a/a/a/2421/
Motivation, ideology and theology
To what extent Islamist terrorists are motivated by religious belief is disputed. Robert Pape, author of the book Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism, has argued that at least terrorists utilizing suicide-homicide attacks -- a particularly effective[52] form of terrorist attack -- are driven by nationalism, not Islam. They
"are not driven by religion as much as they are by a clear strategic objective: to compel modern democracies to withdraw military forces from the territory that the terrorists view as their homeland. From Lebanon to Sri Lanka to Chechnya to Kashmir to the West Bank, every major suicide-terrorist campaign — over 95 percent of all the incidents — has had as its central objective to compel a democratic state to withdraw."[53]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamist_terrorism
[52]^ For example, according to Pape, from 1980 to 2003 suicide attacks amounted to only 3% of all terrorist attacks, but accounted for 48% of total deaths due to terrorism - this excluding 9/11 attacks, from Pape, Dying to Win, (2005), p.28

Yeah, I would. I don't resist mocking Islam out of fear. AAMOF, I do so because I am a Christian. Doing otherwise is more an insult to myself (and my faith) than to Muslims. I'm sure the majority of Muslims understand this. Goading me on to be an bellybutton is ..... well .... assinine. :)

Try moving the decimal place to the left twice. And I said it's pretty safe that it's less than. After that is when the needle should start moving once you work up a practical way to measure. :)

Agreed. Not that I've never done so but generally someone has to really dig themselves a hole then urinate it into a public cess-pool before I decide the messenger is more broken than the message. I'm hopin' KgB isn't into diving competitions, at this point. Maybe passing along some Tanqeray may smooth the edges. :)

It's interesting that your true nature finally came out. You really ought to reconsider how often you post this particular statement, because it's semantic content is very nearly nil and it makes you sound like a child repeating something their pothead hippy stepdad keeps saying when he explains why you're eating cornflakes for dinner again.

My apologies for lack of perception, thusly.
Let me contend, then, that a faith, belief, philosophy or religion need not be the actual culprit when those who profess following one of them exhibits behavior counter to said belief.

Nobody's perfect. Well, excepting of course the focus of some religions, like Christianity. Some have less shame in their lack of living up to their ideals than others. For the record, though it may seem contrary, I don't advocate this position.

That's utter crap..The ONLY reason islamist suicide bombers blow themselves up is so they can be raptured up into heaven(they get to skip judgement day)..72 virgins rivers of milk & honey etc.It has nothing to do with nationalism(why are muslims killing muslims, blowing up mosques?)
Try reading Sam Harris or Christipher Hitchens.

Actually, all religions deserve to be ridculed..Especially Islam.
Mocking a person's faith is not the same as mocking the person..Race is NOT the same as religion.
Challenging a religion employs rationality & reason based on fact or evidence....Two things faith based people are told to toss out the window(with regard to their faith).
Blind leading the blind.

I'd say the mullahs' just use that to try to sweeten the deal...They would have suicide-bombed by the millions, if that was the only reason.

Maybe scientology over Islam. And history has shown, that desecrating a shrine has shown to be the sort of mortal insult that...well...causes Saladin to retake Jerusalem, for example. Try going to a Southern Baptist Church on a Sunday morning, and telling everyone going inside what you find inconsistent and ridicule their faith. Make sure that an ambulance is standing by.
You can argue religion, if you are careful to make your points based on logic. However, if you openly ridicule them, be prepared for a battle.

A person's faith is everybit as much a part of them as their race. Saying one or the other is an exception to how much respect you afford them is bogus. Challenging the way they practice their faith is another thing.

Uhm, no. Faith is ideas indoctrinated from an early age (not always, but mostly). Race is based on chromosomes and ancestry. One is ideas you've been taught. One is part of your body. Huge difference.

Um, yes. Ones philosophy and biology comprise the total being. You deciding which part you're allowed to ridicule, genralizing and applying that to an entire religion and not condemniing the actual fault, which is the perversion of practice, is bogus. That makes it just as much a form of bigotry as racism.
It would be like me saying you're a bad person because you're a Jew (if you practiced Judaism) and not because you used Judaism as an excuse to practice terrorism. Using SirLoin's example, he's as bad as what he mocks.
WTG. :aok

What you people cannot stomach is that somebody has enough conviction to get mad over something so seemingly insignificant... The start of something big is always small.
I congratulate the Sudanese.
-
Not seemingly insignificant-it is completely insignificant. It's a stuffed child's toy. Named by children. Nothing more. Yeah, we need something big to kick off over in Sudan, glad you congratulate them. On what? The janjaweed militia slaughtering the civilian tribes with a government stamp of approval? Yeah we stand corrected, they really got it nailed down over there.

To get a good person to do a truly wicked thing..That takes religion.

Not quite. Faith/religion/whatever you want to call it, is just a bunch of ideas. You can change an idea. You can't change race. You're either caucasoid, negroid, or mongoloid (yes, only 3 races, I asked anthropologists).

Blinders, boyo. It can also take politics, money, sex. If you can't see it as the fault of the individual who uses whatever they use for an excuse to be wicked then you have a lot more abstract ideas and inanimate objects to hate than you claim. :)

Three races, very good, didn't make your point.
One having the ability to change and another not is actually beside the point. Walk up to that previously illustrated Jew and tell them that you could be friends with him if only he'd convert to Christianity (or atheism or whatever). Remind him that it doesn't matter what color his skin is because he can't change that.
It's comes off like a bad episode of "All In The Family." ;) :aok
