Title: can you work this out?
Post by: B@tfinkV on November 26, 2007, 06:06:16 PM
I was just reading a brain teaser book.

look at this sequence for a min

.
___

."._"

.._""

it's a tough one unless it hits you right away.

you have to answer one question with a three word answer.

numbers of letters in the words in order : 7, 4 , 4

the question: "What am I doing here?"

only a 3 word answer 7,4,4 will be correct, good luck.

I thought it might also be 131112221 but I don't think I'm seeing the simple/complete rule.

Yeah, but none of those are for the original one. It's a little bit annoying to me that I haven't figured that one out yet.

That question has more than one correct answer according to the rule given...

"reading this book"

"oogling that babe"

(skuzzybait)
"strokin your ****"

The original sequence looks odd.  The dot and underscores are on separate lines.  So does that mean this:

Item 1:  .
Item 2:  ___
Item 3:  .
Item 4:  ___

Or does item 1 include both the dot and underscores?  The rest of the sequence occupies a single line for each item, so the first 2 (or 4) don't seem to match the format of the rest.

I was thinking though, why would it 'hit you' right away unless it was a picture or diagram of some sort?

Or if it's got some kind of mathematical structure attached, does that stuff EVER 'just hit' anyone?

*edit*  yeah, dots & underscores on the first four lines are separate from one another.

Correct..

Arlo, it's not a number puzzle.  It should have been pretty obvious to someone as lucid and articulate as you, since all you need to do is read out loud a line to hear the next.. Nothing mathematical about that, I'm surprised DoNKeY trumped your brains Arlo.
In fact I posed this one to a dyed in the wool (Einsteinish) math professor just to buck his math mindedness.  He never found it despite being one of the most lucid teacher's I've had.
