Is there anyway to find out about whats been filed from certain companies?

Write the companies?

They won't tell me (I asked the engineers directly :) ). Basically Sonicwall (firewalls I pimp) seem to have a new 'heuristic deep packet inspection engine that doesn't require packet reassembly' in their new boxes, I'm trying to find out more about how it works.

Search the patent office database. Individual names are usually used though, not company names.

If the patent is made by an individual in the employee of an organization for the specific use of that company then they are required to have that company name on the patent as well. NOW the best way to search the USPTO site (part of my job from time to time) is the use the advanced search function and get real picky about words and phrases that only the patent or description of the function would use. It is time consuming but you get to seem some pretty cool and pretty stupid items that people have succeeded in getting a patent on.
