Lead by example? Answer me this: which segment of the player base gets recognition by HTC for their accomplishments? Is it the trainers, the vets who stay out of the TAs, but set a good example for others in the MAs, the guys who labor on skins and soundpacks, or the 200hr a month club?

I had a blast tonight, but then, I was in the FSO :)
AvA, Special Events, different arenas, dueling arenas, there are just so many choices one has to believe that you get out of AH what you want.
I, personally, always want to have fun and usually find it.

Dont put AH down for wanting to learn, grow and adapt to what the players want and to be around for the next 20 yrs with a good membership. remember its business to them.
they need input on the changes that need to be done.
those that want AH to stay the same as it was years ago are well like the dinasours, (get the picture)
AH is growing and you cant stop it:D just help guide it while it grows.

Please do explain the right way to play this game. And what this honor code is.
I've been here a long time and I know of no right or wrong way to play. And I know of no valid honor code. Or at least one that anyone follows.

So after a year or so of endless ranting, pleading with HTC to bring back the large maps, we get some large maps.
Enter the "we hate the large maps" crowd.
No doubt, HTC's office has a brick wall where they take turns pounding their' heads.

I don't get it(which is normal)...a maps a map, and I usually find the same fights regardless. I like the big maps, because in America every thing must be the biggest and best(like giant suv's and the afore mentioned waistlines).
I am a crappy AH pilot, but I seem to have fun every time I log in. Sometimes it's harder to find a fight than other times, but I fly at weird times and there aren't many people on usually...BUT I always find something to do. I think HTC is trying their best to satisfy everyone and I salute them for that.
When I first started there was one MA and it was fun. Then the arenas split and had small maps and it was fun. Then large maps were brought back into the MAs and it is fun. I guess I'm one of those customers that pays my 15 bucks for what I get and I pay it because I like what I get. Do I want an updated Hellcat...heck yeah, but am I gonna quit if I don't get it? No, because the Hellcat we have now is just fine, but after seeing how sweet the corsairs became after their face lift, it's hard not to want the same for us loser Hacks(and no that isn't some paranoid cheater term). I'm definatley not Gonna quit over the maps, because I honestly think they are pretty much the same, but I do prefer shorter flight times.
-
Can't please all the people all the time....mebbe Orange could keep big maps in rotation, Blue could keep small ones?

What do you mean by no choice ?
-
What is this Honor Code he speaks of? ....is that Rule #4 ??? ;)
-
"If it ant broke, Don't fix it"

I find it hard to find good fights on the big maps and some nights not at all! I usually try and up from a capped field to get a fight. Seems if u go looking one you fly for ten minutes get hoed by an la7 on the first pass where u die or end up chasing him to a gang where u either die or end up getting chased by about 8 planes lol. It can get very frustrating suppose the only answer is to have a bit of everything on offer?
-
last time i looked, there were seven arenas, thats your problem right there ,you have lost five arenas pretty good odds on small map tho, out of seven arenas only two large maps.

Right way to play = Whatever way the poster currently plays or wants others to play to make it easier on them.
Code = This is a variable. Some won't vulch or will let damaged birds try to get home. For many others its don't HO me back or I'll call you out on 200 or the boards. Oddly, this entails accusing others of "breaking the code" for vulching them and bragging about vulching others and stealing kills off of someone else and complaining about the same when it happens to them. There are many masters of this skill who we all know and love both here and 200. For the most part, see "Right way to play" above.

My issue with big maps are the following:
Bases mean very little. With so much territory, there is very little incentive to defend against a large group attacking. Those who might up to make a fight out of it, may instead look to an area which at the moment has more action. However, once an upper hand is reached, the other team seems to disappear, and move to attack a base which has little opposition. This cycle in itself is not bad, if, and a big if, they didn't overlap so much. Basically, If you are losing one base, who cares, just up someplace else and take an undefended base. You end up with fleeting resistance, with the enemy chosing to move away from one battle, and attack undefended territory, while the other team continues to attack a base, that was once populated.
I understand the strat of all this, but imho, it leads to some stale fights, with one team with a large upper hand at one base, the other with an upper hand at the other. It becomes difficult to defend a large area, because of the overlapping time it takes for one group to drop everything it's doing, and move to where the threat has moved. Leading to the notion that there is more milkrunning. I understand the idea to up and defend a base, but the overlapping time is a limiting factor.
Large maps offer lots of different type of play. You will get some smaller fights, you will get some large fights. But it seems, to me anyway, the norm is a larger groups attacking areas against very small groups. Where on smaller maps, the battles tend to larger, more constant, and sustained. However, this is at the price of less small fights and less options. On the other hand, large maps don't seem to be reset very often at all, so victories are far less common, having a muting effect on win the war.
My conclusion would be there is somewhat of a paradoxical effect, In the some strat guys might like larger maps due to the availability of fields to attack, but at cost of not being able to win the war. Large maps can have large battles, but often the end quickly, as people look for many opportunities at another field, in which they will have advantage. Smaller maps tend to force more action in certain area's. Just my thoughts.

Jeesh...."remember, it's business for them"
If HTC had a marketing director, his first rule to tell them would be "give the customer what they want".
DO NOT dissapoint the customer out of what they want.
The rules of marketing are.....you make more "free" money from repeat business and referral business than anything else.
It costs 10x as much in advertising to get a new client than it does to get a free referral through great customer service and a great product, over a cheesed off customer who tells everyone they know on the planet to avoid a company because they delivered a bad product.
HTC HAS a great customer service program I rate as A++++++. If they were my staff, they'd all have a raise before Christmas.
HTC does not deliver the product the customer wants, it costs them loyalty and cash.
Evidently the folks in Grapevine are content with what they have instead of what they could be.....a mulit-million dollar Fortune 500 comapany....as a conglomerate worth 300-400 million.
Problem is.....at the present, they don't seem to care.
Air Warrior died twice to to bad management and NO Marketing Director.

Rox. you're nuts! This is a very esoteric game to start with.. (ever tried explaining this hobby to someone who has no idea?) 300-400 million. LOL. I'm just happy the folks at HTC are at least making a living so us dorks can continue to play!

now HTC falling to the noobs. sorry but the noobs would not know about these big maps that where getting back from the old days. heck i cant wait till trinity comes back or donut map comes back.
a proper way to play Aces High HAHAHAHAAHHAHA thats the funniest post of the year you should get an award for that. Everyone plays the way they want to play what ever makes it fun for them. same with me. I love a good dog fight sometimes i only want to cherry pick all day long. sometimes i only want to gv but hey its my 10.99 a month so whats it to anyone else what i do with my money.
someone said they cant find a good fight in the current big maps, come over to the Knights side and tune your vox into 137 and join the fun. we are constantly in fights some small some where we kick that arse and some where we are out numbered and lose but still have fun.
last night we went into 211 and where out numbered but we didnt stop cause we got poked in the eye. we went back and did some fighter sweeps still got our arses handed to us due to major numbers on the bish side but we where in the biggest furball at the time.
you cant just sit there and wait for something to happen. goto an air field and start some chit. thats how you spark furballs.

Exactly!!! It is my opinion that this crowd is the main reason that we no longer see Hi-Tech and Staff flying on line and chatting with us about plans and updates.

I build some really nice fences and gates, some very intricate and ornate stuff. I consider some of our stuff functional works of art. at my home there are no fences and no gates. I live in a community where most of the residents eschew fencing. the last thing I want to do is open a gate when I get home. just saying.

I assumed they were just too damned busy. You may have a point there.

I think we still see them just not as hitech or suds or the like
there new name might be 984563 or newbie, something like that,
surely they still like to play, or we are all in for a big disapointment!

I had some great flights last night in the big map, and some great fights. I got thumped a few times, but, that goes with the territory.
-
See Rule #7
-
lol Typical cartoon chest thumpers..... DA DA DA.... around here DA has it's own meaning. Most of those if i saw them on the street acting that way I'd just box their ears.
Some folks missed the point.... if one LW arena has a large terrain and one has a small terrain then folks can fly on what they want to fly on.. hence having a choice.
Some folks think we should all fly their way.... sad but typical. IF you have a choice you fly your way.

In 2004, a business hired me that had less than 5,000 members and made less than $44 Million a year.
In 2006, that same business had over 25,000 members and was making $16.1 Million a month ($157 Million that year). You'd be shocked the difference an experienced Marketing Director can do.
How esoteric is it to explain what parimutuel gaming machines are?

Perhaps making one of the late war arenas a large map and the other a small map all the time would keep both sides happy - assuming one didn't run into the areana limits & have to play the map they didn't like.

Actually, that isn't the reason. It's really much more akin to burnout. That and some personal life issues.
-
I get pissed sometimes. I really get ticked, but this is just a game for crying out loud. People's negative attitude ticks me off, too.
Just walk away from it a few days, you'll be ready to comeback eager to die again!
I like it all, everything, even the crap. It reminds me of the Navy, I loved it and I hated it.
AHII is a great game.

I agree with Max. Glad to have the big maps and appreciate the little ones too.
Can't help but think of Sour Girl by the STP.

* AH sux right now in your opinion!
I've been here around 2 and a half years and still think it is the best online multiplayer flight sim there is without doubt.
I'll continue to enjoy it. Maybe you should take a break. Or try something else.

I agree as they started putting small maps in one arena and large in the other.
Bruv I have been with aces high much longer. I do agree that AH is hands down the best online flight game. I was stating an opinion for that time frame.... this has since been fixed by small terrains in one LW arena. Fun, for me at least, is back!
Wish I could change the title of this thread now that things are on an even keel or that folks would just let it die :aok
