Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb: Hear What Happens When You Play Two Separate Copies Of The Guitar Solo 15 Seconds Apart
The guitar solo of this song is so perfect that even if you play two copies 15 seconds apart they sync up and compliment each other creating something worth hearing.

I'm awestruck!

Totally Awesome...
I went a bit further and taped this and copied the same and played it 15 seconds from the beginning of the second solo....Now I have 4 solos playing.. a quartet of solos if you will. I turned out all the lights, lit some sandalwood incense and 50 candles...
I, my friends, are comfortably numb.

Just don't play it backwards, you might wind up in the '70's. ;)

I never did get into pink floyd. I always equated it with dope... which made it lose it's lustre.

Phish, yes....
Gratefull Dead.....yes
Pink Floyd...not really.
Take a listen to the original version of Comfortably Numb, Learning To Fly... the guitar work is awesome. Clapton may be the guitar king of popular rock, but David Gilmore is the king of real rock.
Can you even imagine picking up a guitar and playing like that??

geeze! I just played it 15 seconds into the Wizard of Oz! totally freakin awesome!

Listen to this (http://www.stage6.com/user/antw/video/1499774/Pink-Floyd----Live-at-Pompeii)
It has some of my favorite Gilmore's guitar work ever.
-
I've often stated that floyd's work is impeccable and the product of perfect virtuosity. in my opinion gilmore is the most under rated guitarist of his generation.
-
For anyone who doesn't have it already, the complete Floyd discography(~4gig) is floating around out there in torrent land.
-
Pretty cool. :aok

Thanks Lute!
Motley, try and find a bootleg of the Superstar Concert Series of Westwood 1 with Pink Floyd at the BBC. It has by far the best version of Echoes, and the blues live performance of Embryo.
They nicknamed Gilmour "God's Guitarist" for a reason. He makes it look simple and it is far from it.

Most do this. You should change your thinking and pick up the CD Wish You Were Here.

pure genius:aok

God, that Gilmour tone...
Dave's been in my top 5 as a player for well over 20 years now.
I've said it before and I'll say it again; Gilmour never plays a bad note. Ever.

Floyd is all about the story. The story isn't about dope, it's about the musician and the music.

Play the entire "Dark Side of the Moon" with the "Wizard of Oz" movie.. start the music after the MGM Lion roars the second time.
That is awesome.
:aok
PF was never about drugs or dope...

the music PF plays is so technically demanding, played with such precision that it became evident to me from early on that there were no drugs involved. it would be as if a person were performing eye surgery, not much of a chance of it happening with an impaired surgical team.
-
That was actually pretty nice to listen to. Thanks for posting Lute.
-
The dopers I was referring to in that initial post aren't the musicians ~ it was the listeners that I was talking about.

huh? You don't think someone could become so good at something that they could do it toasted?
pretty sure there were/are drugs in the PF camp - if for nothing more than "marketing research" on their customers :)

The stories about founder Syd Barrett permanantly losing touch with reality after using LSD is legendary. All the members of the band were/are proponents of the use of soft drugs (pot, etc). However, dismissing PF because of their drug use is like refusing to listen to Elton John because he is gay.

What?
Elton John is Gay?

My buddy, who is also an avid Floyd fan, and myself have this running saying bout Pink Floyd.
Once in every great while, God grants and individual or select group of individuals the ablilty to make perfect music. Pink Floyd is perfect music. Comfortably Numb is a perfect song. There are others who come close, but none can touch them.
Any of you other Floyd fans read Soucerful of Secrets, The Pink Floyd Odyssey?
Good read if ya havent.

I don't blink twice about dismissing those who have a lifestyle that I can't encourage my own children to follow. 'Good' music isn't my own personal priority at any time. Snotty? Sure, it's probably snotty. Worth it? I guess that's all a matter of opinion.

Very comendable and an example for all parents who would be unselfish.
When they are grown and start playing other tunes, then perhaps we'll see you on the dark side of the moon. ;)

You should google: David Gilmour and Crisis. Only a fool wouldn't encourage their kids to live the life he has. He doesn't plan on "leaving his kids a handsome sum of money for his kids to sit around and spend wastefully." He stands as the VP of a London based homeless charity called "Crisis". He's never been afraid to rip on the Stones and McCartney for their greed.
Just because he toked a joint in his 20's? Come on texasmom.
