Wow.....very cool pictures, but strikes fear in Arkansans.

In 2001, we had 2 horrible ice storms 2 weeks apart, back to back.  The first knocked out power in the northern half of the state for almost 2 days.

The second (ice up to 2" in diameter) knocked out power to most of the state for almost 10 days.

While my in-laws 20 miles away never lost power...ours was out for 8 days.

No heat, no light, no hot water, no power.

I learned a lesson.

The kerosene heater is stored inside, with 15 gallons of kerosene secured in a locker in the car-port.  A full cord of firewood was delivered today...fireplace is clean & ready to go.  Enough to heat the house for 2 weeks...even more with more kerosene.

The house my wife & I will build will have not only solar panels but a natural gas fired electrical generator.

Ice storms SUCK!

Running a kerosene heater inside will kill you.

Nice pics.  No. 3 looks like a Georgia O'Keeffe.

(The punch line is: After several Irish coffees, lots of pics look like a Georgia O'Keeffe.)

Thanks folks.

We used to get a 'good' ice storm like this before Halloween just about every year.

First 'real' ice storm we've had in over 10 years.. and it didn't happen until December.

Growing up in SC, that's all we got. Freezing rain and sleet.  Occasionally a big snow ( 1972, in particular ) but normally just ice.

Kinda reminded me of that this morning.  The quiet.. distant cracking of trees breaking under the weight of the ice...
