Title: New system

I am looking into getting a new system in the next few days. I was hoping you guys could give me some advice on what to buy. I know there are many opinions on the best set up but a nice base line configuration would be handy.  I'm am not the most computer savvy person in the world so any help would be appreciated. I know the basics of what to look for but am not sure what the optimal set up would be. I'm not looking to spend alot of money but I would like something that will run this game well.

I'm not sure if you are looking for a manufacturer or to build. Personally I would choose to build.

I built and amd dual core with an asus mb and gt8600 card. Seems to handle the game quite well. However, there are some issues with the amd dual core and you have to download some fixes and maybe rework the registry a little bit. It may be best to go with an intel chip. I only spent about 600 bucks, but then I already had the sound card, case, cd drives and power supply. The amd chip was about 100 less than the comparable intel.

Hope that gives you a basis to build on.

I upgraded to a core-duo about 10 months ago.

I re-used my:

-case/power supply
-XP Home
-Floppy
-Keyboard/Mouse
-Monitor
-Video Card (GeForce 6200)
-Wireless PCI Network card

I purchased:

-Asrock dual VSTA motherboard
-Intel Core-Duo E6300
-2 GB DDR2 Ram (Don't remember exact speed)
-DVD reader/CDR combo drive
-160 SATA2 hard drive

I spent less than $275

If you want to build, you might be able to "salvage" some of your old parts to help with expense.

I would definitely go with Intel Core-Duo.  Skuzzy gave advice that even the "entry level" which I got is worlds better than the Pentium 4/Pentium D or the AMD X64 processors.  The performance is outstanding!  I've also heard you can overclock the HECK out of these processors... although I haven't played around with that just yet.

Also I noticed my processor, even with the stock fan, runs about 40% cooler than my old AMD 2200XP processor.

My next upgrade is going to be a power supply/video card.  I'm straining mine as it is (but so far, so good!)

My Core2Duo overclocked on aircooling from 2.2 to 2.9Ghz just like that. Probably I could push it higher if I tried.
