Hey guys, I just wanted to let you all know that today I found out that I was accepted to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (California Polytechnic State University) for Civil Engineering! Just so you all know, Cal Poly is ranked 6th in the nation for best undergraduate engineering programs, right behind the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy. It is the first public school on this list, so I wasn't exactly sure if I would be able to cut it or not haha.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know as I have really been anxious over this for the past couple of months and all, and I am just really excited right now seeing how all of the waiting is over. I've been wanting to go here since sophomore year! Guess I'll be seeing you all in the virtual skies for some celebration now!

WTG donkey. I am a civil engineer as well. CSU Fresno class of 94. Cal Poly has a great school, had a co-worker who graduated from there, just loved it. I am a PE in 4 states now.
San Luis Obisbo is fun, Pismo, Avila beach, all close. Going to be hard to study with all the fun there is to be had.
My advice to you, set your graduation date for 5 years, not 4. Those who try to do it in 4 are oriental exchange students or nerds with nothing better to do than study ALL the time. Most will wash out, and that is what they want, it is probably an impacted program.
Second, take your freshman year and do your elective classes first. Don't kill yourself with the calculus, fortran, physics and ALL the other weed out class they throw at freshmen to get them to wash out. Have some fun first with government classes, drama, crap like that. Believe me, when you become a hardened senior, you'll be able to take the 18 units of pure engineering classes w/o electives...save that for the end when you know what your doing.
Don't be afraid to hire tutors, you can even get them free through the college.
Last thing, good luck. You're going to study your bellybutton off unless you are naturally brilliant. Not to late to change majors either.

Thanks all and thanks dred!

WTG! My dad was a Civil Eng. and while my degree is not in Eng. about 10 years ago I did engineering for airport construction projects for my Company for approx. 5 years. Our jets that park in OAK are on my design layout slabs. I had too many projects to discuss here do I want to bore anyone so I won't. :)

Good for you.
Work hard, don't quit. When it get's to be more than you can handle, work Harder, stay focused.
Imagine the Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Hoover Dam, any and all of the major accomplishments that humanity has brought forward stalling because it was hard.
You could be the architect of the future if you strive to do more than you ever imagined possible and ignoring the nay sayers who say it can't be done. Nothing that has not been done Yet has been or can be done now, so Don't Quit.
There will always be more that demand failure than will ever support you, so focus, and ignore, and study.
Or, just drag and drop something onto a cad program that someone else already did and buy a house, the world needs those guys also.
Chose now, before someone else choses for you.
Good hunting and God Speed to you.
