Was thinking about trying my hand at some skins, but I don't have Paint Shop Pro.
I D/L'd Gimp last night, and was wondering if anyone has tried using this program for skinning?
Thanks:aok

Yea, It's possible to use it. :aok
-
i have not used it for skinning, but i know my way around it pretty well if you have questions. feel free to pm.

I used it until it began refusing to run on my system. Was a great program until then. Just remember the file management is based for Linux.

ahh...wasn't aware of that...
I was wanting to try skinning without having to buy PSP or another program.

No no, there is a Windows version. On saving/loading some users get very confused because it uses Linux style navigation. Keep in mind that it's designed to run on Linux and the Win version is a side project. May be a cause of it not running on my system any longer.

I have used it a great deal. It will work just fine for making skins. The documentation on how to use it is lacking, so I recommend running as many of the tutorials on http://www.gimp.org as possible to learn how to make the most of the capability. You'll need to concentrate on layers, paths, and selections in order to get the most out of the program for skinning.
Good Luck,

Photoshop.. thats all that matters!

Other than it's cost when Gimp is free, nearly exactly the same in function, and more expandable, you mean?
-
wops Could you use photostudio to do skining?
-
Photoshop is THE industry standard in imaging programs. GIMP is to Photoshop as Linux is to Windows. They're trying to replicate and improve on the big-guy's corporate version.
So, in a word, Yes.

If you're just experimenting or determining whether or not you want to be serious about skinning--use GIMP, its free. If you get serious, you can always buy Photoshop.

Splitatom, PhotoStudio works just fine. I've used it many times to make skins for custom maps. I've used that and Gimp and think PhotoStudio is much easier and straight forward than Gimp.

how do i make one i dont get how to use it and i have untill may 30 to make a skin in photostudio

I think I may try to do a JG11 109K4 skin with GIMP... dont hold your breath, theres a good chance I may get frustrated and quit after 30 seconds... Ive never been able to get good with computer artwork.

Take some time to work through the tutorials. Concentrate on the ones that discuss layers, selections, and paths. Also, take a blank, and start using all the different tools so you know what they're capable of. There is a steep learning curve, but if you're patient enough to work through some of the tutorials, you'll get a lot of functionality for free. I use it all the time now, especially to manipulate computer images that aren't related to skinning, and I haven't spent a dime on software to do it.
