I took Vista off my PC sometime ago, loaded XP pro, and I have been very happy with the results. The only piece that I cannot get to work correctly is the Mic.
When I 1st log in, it is fine, then it gets "Scratchy" until it is unusable. I can type .resetv 3 and get it back for anywhere from 1-2 mins to 1/2 hr before it dies out again.
The Mic works fine in "Sound Recorder", and I have voice recognition software that works fine with the Mic.
A squadie had the same problem and when he loaded a sound pak the problem went away. I am unsure how that helped, but I have loaded 4 different sound paks and now I use a combination of the sounds. I cannot say for sure if any of those changes helped or not.
I am thinking it must be sumthing unique to AH, as the mic works outside of the game fine.

Turn off your speakers and see if it's picking up the engine noise through the speakers.

Next, what sound card do you have and have you installed the drivers?

My voice was scratchy too. For me the fix was simply to raise my mic volume in the Audigy control panel. Worked just fine after that and I thought I had previously adjusted it.

Can it be that simple. Sometimes.

Let us know how that comes out.
