Title: Danish Brain Drain

The same thing happened to  Britain in the late 70's didn't it?

So if I sit around on my arse and am unemployed the goverment will take care of me, but if I try and work for a living, the goverment will take 63% of everything I make.

Thats good incentive to be unemployed, or at least to move elsewhere.

Your best and brightest are welcome to come to the U.S.  We'll eventually beat the Socialism out of you, and if you absolutely must have winter 10 months of the year, you could always move to Minnesota.

The thing that eventually made me start looking abroad for a new place to live and work was seeing all the useless Chavs and Neds in Glasgow and knowing full well I was paying for their cigarrettes, booze, subsidized housing, kids, sattellite TV, Old Firm season tickets etc etc.

Eventually decided I just wasn't that generous.

Thats one of the biggest deciding factors for me Wooley - cant stand the fact that I work hard for what I make (84 hour weeks anyone?) yet have to pay a truckload in taxes to support the bone idle (I dont have a problem with those who cant work - just those who wont!!)

That and a creeping tide of erosion of civil rights, this govt (and I know, all govt's have hidden agenda's - just this particular one wont listen to the people they purport to represent ho hum)

Oh, and the fact my wife wants to move to be closer to her father (not to mention loads of sunshine yay!!)

One thing is the high taxes on our hard earned money.

another thing is the taxes on our cars which is way out of proportions.

When I buy a new car I pay almost 3 times the price of what they pay in Germany or Sweden...  :furious

So leave.  Make them suffer the worst fate possible for socialists.  Take away the money they can steal from.

We in Ireland had high income taxes at one stage. I remember paying 53% on part of wages at one stage. Overtime was simply not worth doing. I wasn't even on a high salary either. In fact I was essentially low paid. Back then unemployment was about 11% and the economy was depressed.

Not surprisingly when taxes were cut the economy picked up and now we effectively have full employment. Yet unemployment benefits are quite generous, just not as good as working. The Danes obviously don't realise the obvious. Lowering taxes increases the tax take.

Yesterday the minister for finance cut income tax yet again.

But one thing, in the original article. This was written:

Small East European countries, notably Estonia and Slovakia, started the trend by imposing low, flax taxes on income and corporate profits about five years ago.

They didn't start the trend we did. They are copying us. We of course copied the Americans.

Us Americans have tried raping our own people with high taxes from time to time.

The freedom from high taxes wasn't really that, but true freedom.  I.E. Living on the wilderness.

The flat tax rate proposed by "New alliance" really makes more sense. I know in the end it wouldn't give me that much more money, but the amounts of hoops and jumps one performs to be able to deduct as much as possible is just silly.

I was just talking to one of my elder brothers today, how he actually had an arrangement with his company to lend them a portion of his salary. After 5 years they then repay him, and at that time he can then avoid paying 63% of it (+interests) in tax. Besides that he pays another big bite of his income into his retirement fund, all just to lower his monthly income.
With a flat tax rate, at least it's more desirable for high paid people to work that little more. With the marginal tax rate as it currently is, like the article says, it just makes more sense to take more time off instead.

Woah pardner!  We have it for MAYBE 5 months they rest of them are scorchers.   You move to Minnesota to get it all!  We have some of the greatest temperature extremes in the country.  I remember one 24 hour period where the hi and low temperatures were 80 degrees apart.

Topographically and geographically speaking we have most everything.  We have vast flowing plains, technically we have 1 mountain, large bodies of water, HUGE tracts of land....  Other then the crazy number of liberal democrats why wouldn't you live here?  Oh yeah, Al Franken is running for congress... Anyone want a displaced Minnesotan?
