P-47M
I know this one will not be high on anyones list, but it seems like it might not be a tremendous amount of work either. There were several hundred made and almost all of them went the the 56th in late 44 or so. There are so many great skins that could be done! They were faster then the D's, but I imagine they would be a lot like the N sans the clipped wings. Anyway, this is teh wishlist folder afterall.

I made this same argument about this time last year. Basically just take the D-25 and give it a lot more power. The ultimate word was that HTC had left the door open for including the "M" at some point, with no commitment to when. I'm personally looking forward to it, even if its 3 years from now (or whenever)

Isn't the P-47M one of those rare occasions where HTC's just come out and said "no"? They rarely do, but I thought this was one of the times.
-
No. I can't remember the exact quote and don't have time to look up the thread, but to paraphrase (HTC) "I never said that we wouldn't add the P-47M" or something like that.
-
I would like to see these skins.

P-47M, P-38H, Fw190A-6, Bf109g-6/AS and Bf109g-14/AS and you've got the whole fighter set for CT in the game for whenever that comes out! All can be based on existing aircraft, so hopefully they'll require much less development time and resources than a completely new model.
2 questions on the 47M:
-I know the the wing racks were removed for more speed at some point, but were they ever used in service?
-Was the dorsal fin extension fitted to the Ms like it was on the bubble canopy 47Ds?
-
I'd like to see it just for those skins.

1- Wing racks were removed, centerline "wet" rack remained. The -47M was used to chase down Jets and buzz bombs.
2- I'll have to check when I get home, but I'm pretty sure the dorsal fin was as you describe. Pretty much every Thunderbolt after the D-25 had those, I believe.

Hell yes P47M.
Now this would be worth earning perks for.

1. Wing hardpoints were used in service
2. No dorsal fin on M's out of the factory, but all eventually got them field fitted.
See picture here (http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/gallery.php?Group=56&Style=item&origStyle=list&Item=19&Temp=701&searchString=) You'll notice in other pictures of this same aircraft, the dorsal fin is in place.

Thanks Stoney. When did they start flying without the pylons and could the pylons be easily removed and remounted depending on the mission or was it not as simple as that?
-
WW's the expert on this, but...
IIRC, the idea was make it as fast as possible, and since the development began before the V-1 was employed, it wasn't because of the Buzz Bombs. I think from the factory, they came with a slick wing, 6X.50 cals and no dorsal. As soon as the 56th FG got their hands on them, they began adding the dorsal fins, added the extra 2 guns, and hung the pylons under the wings for missions.
The pylons were removable, as they were on all P-47's capable of carrying pylons. I guess for operational purposes, they were always either flying with bombs or fuel tanks, and so you always see them hung.
Again, maybe WW will chime in a correct me if I'm wrong on any of this.

i put my vote on yes

Wasn't the M one of the planes on HTC's old poll? Along with the P51H and a few other late rare models.
