I'm new to the boards but I've been lingering for a while. I've been playing AH for well over a year if you count HTH. I returned to the MA when HTC dropped the free play. I just can't get enough of this game and I salute the members of the HTC staff for putting together a wonderful product. That being said, here are some of the things I would like to see... tweaked.
1.) I would like to see a carrier group that isn't so vunerable against a lone bomber pilot. All too often, it seems that the carrier will go down with a single pass. My simple solution is not to add more guns or more deadly ack (shudder) but just add a second carrier to the group. This way a single bomber pilot would have to line up at least two accurate runs or bring friends. What do you think?
2.) This may have been brought up in the past, but do you think we could add a small perk to the LA7? I know that HOs are always going to be part of the game and I'm generaly very good at avoiding them. I've also run into some very good LA7 pilots who don't deserve to have this perk tacked on to the ride because they know how to use it. The problem that I encounter is too many people who don't know ACM use the plane as nothing more than a HO scream machine. So in furballs or good knife fights I find myself turning into an unaviodable HO/collision from some guy who's only goal is to steal a good kill from the person I was truely fighing. I know that plenty of planes are considered HO birds (see anything with 4 20mm) but they're either already perked or slow enough to exact your revenge. I think a small perk would at least encourage people to learn to fight with it or find a different HO bird.
Just my thoughts. Feel free to rip me a new one now.

1) Both CVs would be dropped at once quite often, no need to line up two times.
That's why you will get yelled at when putting two Task Groups side by side in the MA: They are just easy targets that way ;)
2) What you perceive as a "LA" problem is merely a player "problem". Take LAs away by perking, and they will congregate to another fast & well armed plane. That way you would have to perk that one too... And you will end up with an unperked P40B.

You're probably correct about the CVs. But it would take at least a little more skill to bring them both down in one pass. Plus if the Carrier is jukeing one might fall and the other may survive. I think it would stop (or maybe slow down) the common problem of low Lancs diving in and releasing just before the ack rips them to peices.
I get your LA7 arguement as well. I counter with all the uber hard hitting planes (Temps and 262s) are perked based on speed/hitting power. And while an LA7 is a dog up high, most of the fights in MA take place down low where it excels. So using your logic (in my own retarded way) we should UNperk every plane in the game and have a 262 fest every day? I'm not mad that I get HOed. I expect it. I'm not trying to prevent HOs from occuring, but I also believe that there should be a penalty for doing something that IRL wasn't the prefered method to attack another fighter for obvious reasons. Since there is no value assigned to the LA7, some people pick it in the hangar simply because they know they can get away with HO run, HO run, HO run. It is exactly what you say, 'a player "problem". ', and I feel a small perk will, at least, slow it down or teach those who abuse it in this fashion.

I think the CV problem could be solved with more destroyers...
for the La-7, it would probably be a good idea to try and find out why these players who HO a lot do it. for example, if it turned out that they did that for the points/score, then a solution would be to have a point penalty for doing so.
also, you seem to imply in your first post that you like furballing, and then in your second post that you think the game should be more like real life. I'm not sure those 2 things really work together.

I would like to see something that would prevent CV's from getting outed so easily. I just don't know what would do it, perhaps stronger high alt ack.
For LA7's, I just pervent the HO, but staying behind them. Personally, I have more trouble with those dag gone Spit16's.

Try the Mid-War arena then. No La-7's, no P-51D's, and no Tempests. The fastest thing in there is a Typhoon I think... Hope to see ya in there somtime. :aok

The Spit XVIs are cool :D
I'm not a great pilot, but they seem to be a bit too 'delicate' for HO work...

I suppose it comes down to how you like to spend your fifteen bucks. Me. I'm a fighter jock 90% of the time. I like the challenge of testing my skills against another opponent. This can be in a furball, an even engagment (1 v 1 coalt/E), or where I'm at an advantage or even a disadvantage. But it always boils down to "how much fun was that fight" and a one hit HO wonder is never any fun.
If I'm entering an area with multiple cons I try evaluate who is the most dangerous. There are many factors that help me figure this out. Alt, potential energy, relative position and aircraft type. Taking away all factors asside from A/C type, the LA-7 usually doesn't rank as the biggest threat.
An example, would be.
Yak
Spit
Typh
LA-7
I would attack them in that order (spit and typh are interchangable). Why? Because many times pilot skill can be atributed to the plane. I feel that the Yak is usualy the best pilot of the bunch just because of what he's flying. The Spit and Typh pilots have a huge range of skill sets. So either could be an uber stick or a noob. I find that the LA-7 pilots usually has just the one move. HO & run. It's not because it's not a deadly plane in the right hands. It's because most of the pilots who fly them have little or no clue what they're doing. Many don't have any plan as to what they're going to do if they miss the initial HO pass. So the default is to nose it over and get out of dodge. If I chose to enter this lopsided battle, many times I'll find myself heavily engaged with a good stick who is testing me only to get picked by the guy who 80% of the time will just run for his life if I try to kill him first. It's only when they don't run or point that big red radial straight at me that I know I might be in for a fight. I thnk that the good LA sticks wouldn't mind a small perk for the plane because they aren't just going to pitter their perks away by going for the 1st HO shot they see.

1) CV's aren't as vulnerable as people think they are. Any bomber(s) coming in to sink a cv at 6K or less is easy pickings for the 5" guns, and anything about that is easy to avoid the bombs. Just don't turn the cv one direction, because anyone can correct their flight path to sink a carrier that turns ONE way and only ONE way. Turn it one way as soon as possible, then turn it a completly other direction - This should mess up the bombers enough to cause them to miss. Oh, and by the way, the quad 40mm's can reach out to 4.0K. I've tryied and actually hit bombers that far out.
2) No comment. I hate LA's. I just blow them out of the skies.

LA7's are considered "Uber" by most pilots.
Reason being, is that they are one of the fastest planes in the game, along with the guns, turn rate, etc. The thing they lack is fuel. I do not remember how much range the LA7 has on 100%, but it is not that far. I do know people that can extend the range by throttle control. As others have said, perking it, would mean complaints about non-perked good planes, such as the LA5Fn, P51D's, and other good planes.
