Anyone here a fan on the Yak-9 series?
Been on FIRE in this bird lately, can't seem to stop landing kills in it. Landed 8 on Saturday. No re-arm.
I've shot down Chanzz a few times in a Yak-9U vs Yak-9U fight.
What model does everyone prefer? I take up Yak-9U for Dogfightin'. I take up 9-T for Gv's/ When I wanna piss people off. Has the most powerful gun in game strapped onto it. :)

Subway

Nope. ^
I use the yak T for killin gvs when ords are down,I also use it as a buff hunter and dogfighter sometimes
-
The U. Better climb than the T. It's a very good all round fighter.
-
the yak 9 u is a great damn plane. very underrated. it can out climb out turn most planes and goes about 370 on the deck. its a very nice plane but aimin is the hard part.
-
I'm a big fan of he Yak9U and 9T. The 9U is a weasley little plane, fast and manuverable. Not quite so much with the 9T, but watch out for that spud-gun. It will obliterate an enemy fighter with one shot. I can also knock out panzer engines with it.
-
I never really got into the yak much until a few squad nights ago when we did a yak fighter sweep. Blew my mind!! So fast, very manuevable, and if you don't mind the little ammo then it's an excellent plane.
-
I use it a lot, or used to.
*is in between houses, and lacks a subscription at the moment*
It's great, there's no two ways about it. It's small, and quick.
Its 20mm packs a lot more punch than some, probably near the Hispanos, but don't quote me on it. Probably just has to do with the 2 12.7mms that are next to it.
It's durable enough to take snapshots, if you get messy and screw up.
It can turn and burn surprisingly well, probably because it's LIGHT, even though it has small wings.
It rolls pretty good around 230mphish, I think... Been a while, I forgot the exact speed.
It's fast as all hell, especially around 7,500 feet.
I've dogfighted ponies at 17-20,000 and not done terrible.
I've done a lot of junk in it, it's just good. As long as you ONLY fire when you KNOW you'll hit.
Only bad thing about it? The cockpits square bars on the front are my worst enemy. :( I'd say it could use WEP, but it does just fine without it. So yeah.

Not really a problem if you fly it correctly. It's best to fly up your opponents butt...and shoot your way out from the inside. See...no problem. :D

Yak9-U makes great .50cal fodder!:aok

Yak 9t I use for de-acking v-bases & knocking out radar if any cannon left look for m16's. Since it has a small profile & good air speed low to the ground it's a hard target to hit.

The Hurri IID has more powerful guns on it.

I love the Yak T. Good climb, nimble, and excellent cockpit visibility. Keep the airspeed up and it'll outturn the spit series.
As far as killing Gv's with it....
I dunno how anyone is, the Tango fires an HE round, 37mm. I've repeatedly tried to kill gvs with it, and find that it is only possible with a direct rearward shot from a very shallow dive..and it's problematic at that. (with tanks)
Of course it's possible to throw 5 rounds into a Panzer and steal someone else's kill when they egg it or put a tank round into it.... I've watched that happen repeatedly.
I think there is a bit of overestimation here.... the tango cannon was not an anti tank gun. HE shells of 37mm will not pierce tank armor....they explode on the hull.
They are STUPENDOUS, however, at one shot kills on spits.... personal experience.

You must fly a different Yak-9T than the rest of us. It makes barely 3100 fpm at sea level, which is mediocre at best. Even below 10K it's rate of climb is less than a P-47D40...

All the Russian planes need updated cockpits. The Yaks are spacious viewed but the dials are so 1990s. THe LAs have the ugliest cockpits in game plus the FWD view is poor. Sure wish HTC would get some of those old pre 21st Century cockpits updated.
As far as game play goes, Yaks are about equal to zeros for causing me the least fear. I cant remember the last time I was put down by a Yak but I did manage to shoot down one of the weaslier types last night.
-
Yak 9U is one of best fighters in game imho but has unusual & unique design feature whereby cockpit rear view is better than forward.
-
I fly the 9u quite a bit and find the low ammo count helps me ensure I have a kill shot before pulling the trigger. I find that it's relatively small size does have its advantages, but I also find the short clip gives me a lot of assists.
I find the yak tends to loose energy quickly in the vertical fights.

Well, they never did for me. That was always one of the fun things for me, being able to vertical fight with Laffers. Now, if you chop the throttle, it will dump E like my X wife used to dump my money (which coupled with its good acceleration can be a big advantage). But, under full power...I love it. :)

Nope, 37mm gun packs most punch in the entire game. So says Here (http://www.netaces.org/)
Look under" Plane/Vehicle info", then look for "Weapons Round power", and you'll see 37mm on Yak packs the most punch.
Larger Calibur doesn't mean it packs more punch. Most of the time, yes, but not always.

Hurri IID is more lethal, but I forgot about the Yak having only one cannon.
Stupid math:furious
-
It states quite clearly the chart is "based on the number of rounds required to kill a hangar from point blank range"
Please note that the 37mm is NOT armor piercing. Armor piercing IS modeled in this game. The yak's rounds will explode externally. The Hurr2's rounds will penetrate, and even though they're not ranked as high as the 37mm on that chart (which I don't trust as an accurate method of ranking rounds), the hurr2d rounds are still able to kill a tank.
In most cases the yak's gun is not.
-
The Yak is a good plane I flew it for awhile, but I'll agree with Yeager and say I can't think of the last time I was shot down by a Yak. I don't really see them as a threat, in most cases they are just annoying to shoot at. If flown well it could likely be a real killer but I hardly ever see them flown well.
-
The Yak is a good plane. It can outrun most of the planes that can outturn it, and it can outturn many of the planes that can catch it. Also, there are a lot of planes that it can both outrun (or catch) and outturn.
I think the Yak might also be one of those planes that's hard to see. I can be 300-400 back with a fine firing position, but the Yak can be against a background that makes it very hard for me to see if it is just jinking a little.
-
I've always had more fun with the T :aok
-
Yak 9U is one of the most rewarding rides in the game and there isn't any other plane that I enjoy more. It's often superior in one aspect or more during most encounters. It's perceived lack of ammo really isn't a problem unless your always trying to spray shots over 200 on average most kills only take 20 to 30 rounds.
If anything it would be nice to have a little more range especially for the big maps. And of course updated to AH2 standards.

Yep. Try killing a town building with a panzers AP rounds vs HE rounds, and you will see what effect Krusty is referring to.

For the first time last night I had a Yak that used energy efficiently against bombers and slashed correctly. Meanwhile he was flinging those pumpkin balls at me. This was at 12,000' where you rarely see the thing. It was a different Yak flying then Im used to seeing and I was surprised it retained energy as well as it did, which was as good as most.
