Title: Missing sprites
Post by: moot on December 10, 2007, 02:53:16 PM
I often can't see animated hit and tracer sprites.  They default to the generic hit sprites when I'm firing 30mm, and/or the tracers seem to be missing.
Sometimes the ground strike animation (puff of dust) will not appear either.

Is this a dynamic level of detail sort of automation to save framerate, or a bug?
Title: Experiencing the same

I really don't have much in the way of a solution, but since you posted 3 days and no responses yet, I will chime in.  (whispers ....... rubber bullets )  Correct me if I am wrong (probably), but it was explained once that packets can be lost during game play.  Skuzzy has explained that the issue may be due to your ISP somewhere in their network (he explains it better).

Use a program called Ping Plotter and post the results or if you can identify the problem area yourself, you could contact your ISP (don't know how far you will get there).

Skuzzy's suggestions have lead me to better performance in this area...... but I have noticed that from patch to patch I have to start from the drawing board, and try turning vsync on or off, adjust detail levels, adjust texture size, and also adjust CPU (mostly according to Skuzzy's recommendations).

Finally, last night I was getting the kind of results that I had been looking for @  a month.

For those in the know, I have a question for you:

In AHII if you are experiencing noticable packet loss (rb), is it possible the distance the projectile has to travel affects its chance of being absorbed by loss packet?

This is only a guess.... seeing as I wasn't invited to any of the programming meetings.... Based on what I've read on these boards....poor info source I know.... The game is played on YOUR computer. So by going with that any "hit" info, and graphic stuff that would run ( hit sprits, ground puffs) would be dependent on your computer.

All hit info, positioning and such is sent in the packet, NOT graphic info.  So packet loss might account for warping, or late damage/death of the enemy plane.

The graphics, on the other hand, are all your computer. Maybe your system isn't a power house, so you have turned down the graphic sliders so the bigger sprites are not displayed to save memory, and so it displays the smaller sprite as a default. The same with the ground puffs.

I've been lucky, every update that HTC has added hasn't messed with my computer at all. I have never had to tweak it to get it like I want it again.  If you have to adjust all the time, maybe something else is messing with your computer.

Thanks Fugitive for pointing to my POS CPU and laughing:rofl .   Just kidding bro.  I have said this before and I am still grateful that I am able to enjoy online gaming experience without the added cost of expensive upgrades.:aok   My CPU is at least 4 years old, replaced vid card twice (latest replacement due to overclocking = fried him good:huh ).  Also, a couple of upgrades in RAM.

So, I guess for those who have not experience it, what we are talking about I don't believe is a function of the computer as it is a packet loss issue. (I could be wrong)  Warping and stuttering is however, a function of the computer.

Edit:  Just read your post again.  I guess we are saying the same thing .
