From the get go, the 474th was configured as a P-38 ground attack unit though they also provided bomber escort and level bombing using Norden equipped "Droop Snoops.":aok

You two behave or you'll be sent to the corner :furious
-
P38's should have formation option.
-
If it's got a steering wheel, it's a bomber.
-
sexiest damn bomber i've ever seen
-
Why do we have to hash this over and over again. If you want p38 formations then I want a JUG with that option too. Skyrock you are dooomed.....lol

Pssst.
It's a 'Yoke', not a 'Steering wheel'.
;)

What's wrong with my light bomber?
Any of the 38 units that operated in the ground attack role at one time or another had Droop Snoots. That includes the 8th AF 38s, 9th AF and the MTO 38 groups.
They sometimes were used with Jug or 51 groups too.
If you are nice I'll tell ya what happened to the last Droop Snoot in the 474th. It's a good story :)

I just have to point out the obvious "freudian slip" here.
The "yoke" connection to eggs is too strong to ignore.
Especially when you realize the slang term for bombs is "eggs".
So, you defend the P38 against a classification of bomber by causing us to think of P38's and bombs?
Another angle we should examine is the fact that eggs have yokes inside them, as do P38's. Ever dropped an egg? Ever seen a P38 dive-bomb? Both events often end up with pieces of yoke spread all over the place...

If it's not a steering wheel, then my Cherokee has a yoke in it, too.

That brings tears to my eyes. Really. That is truly a shame of epic proportions.

Seconded. Horrible to see that.

Yes very sad. However, it was less expensive to scrap them than to prep the planes and ship them home. 5 minutes after Japan surrendered, money became the primary issue....

Your Cherokee is probably a better fighter than the 38 too. It even has the right amount of engines.
-
now that was g-darn funny hub,....lmao:aok
-
:huh :huh :huh
I knew this would happen.....All because of the 38.....BTW it is hard to see any aircraft in the bone yard. My father saw a line of F-105's rotting in the desert. I have never seen him more upset. Two tours in Nam in a Thud and live to tell about it, you tend to fall in love with an aircraft.

Weren't we (the 474th) the top scoring allied group during DGS? Or at least one of the top ones?
