Northern Fleet CV group including Kuznetsov, two Big Anti-Submarine Ships and two support ships is maneuvering in Northern Sea, around Tampen and Troll oil fields, 60 miles from Bergen.
In Arctic night Kuznetsov managed to launch 11 fighter missions, coordinated with strategic bombers that were guided by A-50 AWACS.
Norwegians canceled all transport flight to oil platforms. I didn't watch TV much these days, didn't hear a single word about this operation in Russian media.
-
Been all over the news here since yesterday.
-
OH! Nozeres! Commis are invading! No blood for oil...:aok
-
The Russians are invading Norway? or just practicing in case they decide to at some point?
-
What's the issue? The russian carrier was in international waters, during the maneuvers.
-
IMHO just practicing in an extremely hostile environment, finally restoring coordination between units and showing how fragile is West relying on it's own resources...
-
The only issue is that they moved in the way of civilian air traffic. The civilian radar operators/traffic controllers could not see the russian jets and helicopters that were flying NOE.
The Russians does not have to report their flights in international waters, but its usually polite to do so if it may interfer with civilian traffic.

I didn't expect "Kuzya" being able of flight operations during Polar Night. And it's the first time I have heard about it coordinating with land-based bombers, and this bombers being guided in Polar Night by an AWACS.

I am afraid noone just even thought about reporting. :(
Maybe just happy because they'll probably not have to tow the CV back to the harbor and they finally can do their jobs.

Towing Kuznetsov from Mediterranean must be a real hard job. I hope they fixed it well so they'll not have to do it...

odd color to paint a ship, that is paint isn't it?

Those are not international waters
They are connected to Luxembourg via underwater ridgeline :furious

It's painted with genuine rust
-
looks like plywood on the side of the ship...

The transit south along our coast was declared to our embassy weeks ago. It is only the Russian low-flying at night that has been considered rude, since it has disrupted civilian air traffic in the area.
As for the CV ... it is painted black, red and grey. The brownish color you're seeing is the low polar sunlight reflected off the CV's surfaces. Our oil rig looks rust red also in that light. (Just look at the sky in that picture you dolts!)

It's amazing the bucket of bolts in even away from the pier. When did they put money into fixing that piece of fine craftsmanship ? :lol :lol :lol Did they send a fleet tug with it?

Really? What have I said that is "pro-Russian"?
You must be confused by me not being "anti-Russian". And I'm actually not a Norge ... no more than you're an America.

Don't worry about it. He's still pissed that the Navy played "hide the Oklahoma" after the Japanese did.

I bet the smoke is just a fire to make it look like it is moving under its own power. I bet underneath there are hundreds of well paid russian volunteers frantically swimming and pushing it along.

All that rust in the ocean can't be safe for the environment right?
Just dammm great! China places lead into our kids toys and Russia puts rust into tuna. I see exactly what the Commies are trying to do now.

They have begun trying to litter American ports with their wreckage now. Last year the Russian sub used to shoot the film "K-19" Sank at its dock in Providence, Rhode Island, and is still there. Apparently the screen doors were left open during a storm and it filled with water.

Not Nuclear?
Nice "see it from 25 miles away" smoke flume.
I would expect to see an accompanying destroyer group that would detect & destroy submarines.....don't see one in the photo.

Nope. Steam turbines. 45 day endurance at 32 knots; not much unless accompanied by a fleet tanker.

Some comments after watching Russian media in between working my bellybutton off and performing some acts of pure idiocy for the whole week:
It's amazing, but I didn't hear a SINGLE WORD about it in mass-media. Only Internet discussions, mostly based on reports from one guy who lives in Norway. I admit that I could miss some news programs on Zvezda TV (owned by Defense Ministry) and I don't buy Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star) newspaper, didn't read it for 20 years since my Father retired.
On the day I posted I have seen news from Norwegian North Sea oil-fields. You know what?! Oil leak on one of the drilling platforms, 6000 tons in the water, biggest ecological disaster in decades! It was the first report in some TV news, sharing first place sometimes with Italian trucker strike and "freezing" (LOL) American Midwest. Putin/Medvedev were already out of top news.
Now an interesting opinion about the Mediterranean voyage from Mikhail Leontiev, pro-Kremlin journalist, our greatest propaganda warrior. He said that there is an opinion that Russian task-force moves there to show the St. Andrew's Flag in case Kosovo declares "independence". Belgrade already said they feel quite eager to destroy that terrorist gang nest if they'll formally separate from Serbia. Nothing will save poor Albanian mob from _true_ ethnic cleansings this time bu another NATO intervention. Seeing a Russian task force from Northern Fleet supported by the whole Black Sea Fleet will probably make Western "hawks" think if they want to face consequences of openly attacking Russian Navy units.
Russia has an interesting position about Kosovo. If West accepts separation of Kosovo, then Russia feels free to recognize Transnistria, Abkhazia and South Osetia, who are eager to join Russian Federation. Today Georgia again threatened Russia (LOL!!!) that it will declare war on us if we do. It's like Armenia declaring war on the US. I bet - American Joint Staff will crap their pants :D
What happened today is absolutely incredible: EU stated that they'll NOT support Kosovo independence if it isn't mutually agreed by both Serbian and Albanian sides. Know why?! Cyprus, Greece and Spain suddenly supported Serbs! They all have same problems with separatists, and they don't need any stupid precedents. Other EU nations probably still prefer to enjoy Kosovo Albanians selling drugs all over Europe and providing sexual slaves.
I think I'll repost it as another thread.

3800 tones and the second largest spill in Norwegian history, but thats just a minor point. A disaster it is. Thankfully they will get it all up before it hits land.
Im off to one of the trediest nightclubs in Oslo for a night of metrosexual mayhem. (one of the rooms in the club is called The Russian Room btw ;)
Have a nice weekend :D

Read here about the Russian fleet sailing down to the med. Reportedly they are passing just off the coast from where I'm sitting right now. I'd like to say our military is monitoring their progress but it's Sunday and they're all on a day off. :lol Not that it matters, we haven't got a proper air force, navy or army for that matter. That single task force could sail in and annex the country in a couple of hours.
I must say Putin is playing an interesting game these day. Playing the great power game. Moving his chess pieces around the board. Throwing the Russian bear's weight around. Bit like before the first world war.
A dangerous game indeed. :huh
-
I read today that the radio chatter from the russian group was actually so powerful and plentyful that it paralyzed civilian radio and emergency frequecies in the area. Civilians and the coastguard could not get in contact with the aircraft carrier because they were chatting all the time.
Finally the norwegain airforce sent out a DA-20 EW aircraft to disrupt and dampen the russian radio chatter enough to get through to them. Maybe all the russians involved were wimmin :lol
yappin russians pwned by EW aircraft :D
