I am no Mustang expert... so please excuse the stupid question.
On the two Cripes a mighty schemes flown by Preddy, both are D-15's, why does one have the fin leading to the tail and one does not? When were these added to Mustangs? (were some field mods?)
Were these to cure some directional instability after the bubble canopy was introduced?
-
Voss flew as GPreddy at one point.

Your deduction is correct. Same for the P-47. Compensated for the lost ridge when they went to the bubble.

Preddy's first D Model was a D-5. Those were produced without the fin fillet which was later retrofitted to many D-5s and added to the rest of the production D models to compensate for the loss of directional stability. you'll also see it added to many later B/C models as a field mod
