I believe the caption is wrong - was 80th FG, not 80th FS serving in CBI.
This a/c served in the 459th FS, and although delivered in natural metal, the OD/grey scheme was added in the field.
An O.D. P-38L would be pretty rare, if true.

Almost positive that's a 38J=10. Pics at home but I'm at work right now.
It's a CBI bird. They did paint some L's in theater so I believe the only OD L's you'd find would be CBI birds.

Nope it's an in theater painted P38L-1, 459th FS, 80th FG, CBI. Photo of it in Warren Bodie's book on the 38.
Scanned the image. Clearly an L

Doh! I knew I'd seen that photo before - same photo exists in Larry Davis' P-38 in action Squadron/Signal book.
Thanks!

Stayed up late tonight working on this one. A little bleary-eyed right now.
Hope it looks OK.
