For anyone who's interested Vista sp1 rc1 is now available for download for the public. So far I've used Crysis for a performance comparison and the difference is substantial.

What's the low-down? They just tweak things, or do they actually FIX anything?

Network transfers speed up about 100x for example. They're fixing things that were seriously broken in the first release even they won't admit it.
