Title: Can I use the pov hat on my ch throttle?
Post by: Carwash on December 17, 2007, 05:38:22 PM
I've got a ch stick and throttle.  I use the pov hat on the stick for my views.  I'd like to use the pov hat on the throttle for head position but AH won't let me, or I don't know how to.  Every button on the stick and throttle is mapped to some function except the hat and the mouse toggle on the throttle.  Is there any way to use them in AH?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I often wondered about that myself. I've tried to map it to a number of things including views, trims, brakes, engine RPM, and never found anything useful for it. Because it is spring-loaded, analog, and returns to the center, it is quite limited in what it can be used for.

I've never spent that long on finding a function for it, and im sure someone else can chip in with their use for it, but mine is left un-mapped. I use the push button function of it to switch stick-sets (flying/landing modes).

Have a play, see what you can do in the mapper...

which way do you set up your CH stuff in aces High? using the Aces high keymapper or using the software from CH products? ( CH Manager  I think it is now called )

I am pretty sure it is possible to use a keymap / macro  / single key press type macro   if you use the CH software.........I doubt it seriously that you can program it thru Aces High, though

I use the rocker on my X45 for left/right head position, its an analog axis and works well. Most of the time I want a centered view but the rocker is a really easy way to snap left or right when I'm looking around. You should be able to do the same for the pov.

I started Aces High with a Logicrap - when that went south, I was budgetarily challenged and bought the CH fighterstick and throttle - no pedals. I was succesful in programming the mini-stick on the throttle to rudder in game (no CHManager). AFAIK, you can program the mini joystick to any analog input in game, and the hat-switch to any button/key.

I have the CH Fighterstick, Pro throttle, and pedals. I have been wondering if it might be possible to use the little mini-joystick on the throttle to momentarily override the throttle settings in twin engined fighters as a way of improving their turn rate. I have no idea if this would actually help, or if it would just be a quick way to induce a spin. It just seems as though you might be able to snap a P-38 or Me110 around more quickly with differential throttle control. You might set it up so that moving the joystick up gives you more thrust on the right, and moving it down gives more on the left engine.
Maybe one of you who knows more about this than I do can tell me if this is just a totally BS idea or if it might work. :D

All the hats are pretty much views on my throttle hats but I do have a button for exit flight.

I have the mini stick used as a mouse.

The front buttons I have gear, zoom, on the hat as well as map, open the large text buffer and wep.

I got the CH pro throttle last week and was wondering the same thing about the little joystick.

I'm happy with all the buttons so far all my views/flaps/ rpms just will be interesting to find a use for it.

Can you use the mini-stick or POV hat as buttons/keys?

Yes.

How is simplicity itself. For the POV hat, simply uncheck the box which says "Use as POV" in CH Control Manager. Now press the hat in one direction and look at the first drop-down box. It'll say "None." Change that to CM Device 1 and locate the highest button currently in use. For most of you, that'll be 16. So, press the POV hat forward towards the mini-stick and assign that to CM Device 1, Button 17. Wash-rinse-repeat for the other seven directions on the POV hat. Push the hat down, assign to CH Device 1 Button 18, and keep on going. AH and every other game will recognize the POV hat as four (or eight) more buttons and not as a hat switch. Using this trick I set my 8-way hat as four more buttons and use 'em as elevator and aileron trim controls.

For the mini-stick, push it left and uncheck "DX Mode." Now push it up and uncheck the box again. Make sure the "Up/Down" option is selected, change the "Steps" to 1. Now put your mouse cursor in the "Inc Key" field and hit a key. Say you want to assign the left-right mini-stick action to aileron trim. Usually those keys are J and L, so in the "Inc Key" field hit J, and use L in the Dec Key. Done. Save it, download it to your throttle, and you're off.
