Title: Guitar Hero
Post by: Gunslinger on December 19, 2007, 07:58:59 PM
Ok I'm probably going to get dogged for this here but I'm wondering if there's other fans on the board.

I got GH III for my anniversary recently and I have to say i'm hooked.  It's great music and great fun.

Anyone else into the genre?

My girlfriend got GH 3 for Wii. I played it for the 1st time the other day and found that it was very addicting... playing "Cherub Rock" by the Smashing Pumpkins, just rocking out. I liked it so much I thought about buying it. So I guess that makes me a fan.

LOVE THAT SONG.  I'm trying to beat the game on hard right now and it is extremely challenging.

I LOVE all the classic stuff on it too.  I hope that the 80's expansion pack gets released for XBOX soon as it's only on PS2 right now.  The hair band stuff is fun to play.

why not give him a real guitar for x-mas?

I have it and i am extremely addicted.

What I really want though is Rock Band.  You can play lead or rythem guitar, drums, or even sing.  You play it the same way as Guitar Hero.

I am hooked on guitar hero, if i get Rock Band I may never leave the house.

that would be cool but it would have to include lessons as I'm not that talented in real life.

Much like I'm not that talented as a real life pilot I enjoy (when I did) flying on line.

This is kinda the same thing.  It gives those that can't play a hint of what it's like.

The guys at our Station 3 had it last shift. I fired up Welcome to the Jungle and pretty much did as a bad a guy can do at it. Slash would not be proud.:(

After a few songs things picked up. I see an 360 in my future.:D

Me, have been since the Guitar Hero first came out.  I do like Guitar Hero III the best out of the Guitar Hero franchise but Rock Band is where it's at.

There is a PC version called "Frets on Fire" that is open source.  You can hook up a Guitar Hero controller to it with an adaptor or you can use your keyboard, although it does look silly holding a keyboard like a guitar.

ack-ack

I'm impressed with Guitar Hero.  Not with the game, the game's awful.  But how the creators made millions of people think themselves talented, and waste hundreds of hours accomplishing nothing.  And make millions of dollars selling a pretty simple game, and a cheap controller for a lot of money.

With the time AND money spent playing Guitar Hero, anyone could easily learn guitar.  I did.  It doesn't take lessons.  The only requirement is that you can't be lazy.

But then again, putting hours into a video game when the real thing is available is the epitome of laziness.

good point laser,

I was expecting more of that actually.  But then again it's a game.

With that said coulding somone point out that one could easily learn to fly an airplane for real and avoid AH all together.

I play a little guitar.  I havn't picked mine up in years but I think after playing a little of this game I could do better if I practiced and/or took lessons.

If GH makes people think they are talented than AH makes people think they could fly a Mustang in WWII.

But getting your license costs thousands.

Anyway, I had a little bit of a guitar background going into Guitar Hero.  And I sucked at the game because of it.  The few songs I knew and played didn't actually follow the real guitar at all.  I often lost a lot of points where I knew the song changed notes or chords, but the game itself hadn't changed buttons.

I noticed that too but it gets more "true" the harder the level you are on.  I read a good article on Tom Morello about his input to the game and how his son's freinds can kick his but on expert level at his own songs.  They, could never keep up with him on a real guitar though.

I can't stand the game on easy anymore it sucks.  I'm trying to beat it on hard though and it's pretty tough to learn.

I'm not even close to expert level.....having played guitar I don't think I'm any better except that my left hand hurts like a biatch after playing and it might condidtion me to play better.

Not to mention if my 5 year old son starts to like kiss or the who or santana instead of crazy frog........bonus

I'm sorry ~ I wiki'd this after reading all of what y'all posted. So the 360 plays songs & you play along on the 'controller' which is in the shape of a guitar?

... like karaoke... except w/guitar instead of singing? Sounds fun.:)

go to allsp.com or alluc.org or watchtvsitcoms.com and watch the last episode of south park from season 11 titled "Guitar Queer-o"
halarious episode making fun of guitar hero.
"He can play it acoustically on expert level"

Admittedly guitar hero is fun when playing with a big group of people, however I would prefer to play a real instrument in my solitude. Actually I am taking on the guitar during the holiday season and re-learning the saxaphone if I get the chance.

Alright all you guitar hero fanatics, click on my Myspace link and see if you can play my last song entitled "Just a Guitar solo" and you win a prize. You have to use a real guitar though.

Lazer is right... Guitar hero is a bit of a wank... You can get a decent guitar/amp package for not a great deal more than the game, particularly if you're buying all the versions of it.

Then all you need to do is go on the interenet and look up some tabs.

Any monkey can learn a song from tab.

It is a game. Not sure I have seen any of my kids or their friends that think they are talented rock stars because they can play the game. I guess that same logic would apply to all the people that play AH & now think of themselves as talented fighter jocks.

My five year old can actually play the game pretty well. All songs he can hit the notes on easy mode, and can do most songs in medium mode.

Funny related story. He was at church where the break the younger kids out to do activities. They have all sorts of songs they sing with the kids. They were asking they kids what songs they wanted to sing next. He rose his hand and when called on he said he wanted to sing "Shout out the Devil", which is a song he loves from GH.

I have an 8 yr old that plays GH good too. They odd thing with him is, he only uses two fingers to accomplish it.

I'm telling you, it's not the same.  It is a game, people want to play and not learn to play guitar.
