Title: Gun fires faster than its ROF when trigger tapped
Post by: moot on December 19, 2007, 11:27:28 PM
This has been around forever.... Hitech had said he'd looked at something similar (with PT boats, their rockets IIRC) a while back (like years ago), but it is still happening in planes.

Method / time to expend ammo
Trigger pressed down. ~9 seconds
Trigger tapped at something like 0.3 second intervals. ~9.5 seconds

There's a small range of tap speed and duration that makes it most obvious.  Coincidentaly, this is the sort of trigger press I use in planes with an MK108 in the nose, and it makes for a pretty big waste of ammo.

Please look into it... I'd post films but the sample rate is too slow to show the trigger speed and ammo expenditure difference.  It's very easy to reproduce.

you may not see the info you need to in a film, but HTC has ways of getting a lot more info out of films than the viewer supplies. Send them a film.

One of the past few updates said it fixed this in AH.

That was the yak T, IIRC. It would fire up to 3 rounds for a .01 second trigger pull. The 109s would only fire single rounds with the same setup.

I cant seem to shoot less than 6 30mm rounds with my Ch fighterstick.. Hub are you saying we should be able to shoot less?  I have no statistics on my trigger pull.. but I cant do less than 6 rounds.

Balsy, I have an X52, and used the SST software to program my secondary fire button as a single key press of .01 seconds, just to check the yak's ROF. Normally I don't use that, since it won't repeat - ie, I can only fire a single round per pull. Typically it fires a few rounds when mapped "normally".

I don't know how the CH software works- the only CH stick I've used was an old gameport F16 stick (circa 1996), and the software for that was really limited compared to modern CH or Saitek gear.

I'm guessing this issue (very short bursts fire normally, slightly longer bursts exceed the ROF) is a timing issue for the repeating keys, but I'm not exactly sure. I may try to do another test if I can figure out the approximate timing to start with.
