Anyone working on this skin?
This is the website of other pictures: http://www.modelaces.com/148_scale_model/spitfire_mk_vb.php#top
I think this skin would be a great addition to the 303 Squadron's Hurricane Mk I. Hope somebody has the time to work on this.
Thanks,
Obie

Dammit. I forgot to check the AH skin dept page. This was done by piterko in 2005. So I guess my next dumb question would be why don't we have this in the MA?

Spits got remodeled, new skins required.

Last days i make my first skin to AH2 ...

Work in progress...

Looks promising Kazan. A couple of things you might want to look at though.
The squadron letters need to be made smaller. Looking at the photo they should be roughly half the height of the fuselage roundel. Also the Polish Airforce emblem on the nose should be a bit bigger.
Maybe you could tone down the rivets, particularly on the wings. The wings were flush rivetted on the Spitfire, but the fuselage had normal rivets.
BTW Obie, best bet to see what skins are already done is to look on the Netaces pages. There is an up to date list there with screenshots.
-
Good looking, you might want to check the colors, the grey should be more bleuish and the brown is to dark. Other then that it looks promising!
-
Thanks help Greebo and Mus51.
Small update
Now i change colour to " Dark Sea Grey"...

Try these:
for the blue:
R: 131 G: 151 B: 162
and the brown:
R: 102 G: 110 B: 112

Schemes RAF Day Fighters
Topsides: Dark Green, Ocean Grey
Undersides: Medium Sea Grey
I hope, it is correct...

Kazan, That looks fantastic! I hope to see it soon in the MA.

Great Work my Friend !!!
<>!
:) we have to fly it together

Thx I am greenhorn....

One thing, the fusalage codes for RAF birds were generally read from the left to the right no matter what side of the aircraft they were on. So the starbord side should read "RF (roundal) D" from back to front. Unless you have photo evidence otherwise.
Cheers.

photo evidence :)

Excellent. Looking very good otherwise. I like your panel line take. I would not do it that way, but it looks good and sets your "style" that most skinners develope. Unless Krusty talks them into doing it his way. :lol
Right wing mid way on back side, the OD has some grey in it. I notice this as I had the same problem way back when I did my Mk9.
-
Looking good Kazan. The fin flash isn't right though. Your skin has the early type with all three colours the same width. The real aircraft has the later type with a much narrower white band. The fin and fuselage markings changed at about the same time as RAF fighters went from brown/green to grey/green in the ETO.
The "D" should be the same size as the "RF", it looks larger on your skin, but you are correct to have the code as "D-RF" on the right hand side.
-
Sure wish they'd fix the nose on the AH Spit V. It's just wrong and ruins the lines of that aircraft. The late Merlin birds look fine but the early ones in AH just don't look right from the firewall forward.
-
Same way the 109E-4 H-stabs are too far forward. It catches my eye every time, and annoys me. Not much we can do. :(

where do you get templates for planes
-
Right click the Default sking (in the hangar) and select "Save Default Skin". A folder will appear in your skins folder with the name of whatever plane you saved. Then you just find the appropriate file and modify it.

with Weathering (ver 1.0 alpha)

In my opinion (and this is only mine), the "ribs" on the control surfaces are far too prominent. Also, look at the port horizontal stabilizer's leading edge. On the starboard side you can see the panel line following the leading edge, but on the port side it runs off into the edge and looks like it's slightly mis-placed.
I almost liked the version 1 weathering better (more splotches) but the version 2 weathering is definitely more refined. Overall I think it looks pretty good. I'd ask one of the spit experts to sign off any all the details (codes, details, placements thereof, etc).
Any pics of the undersides?
-
If thats your first skin - Awesome! I think it looks better then most of the MA skins out there.
-
Thx Krusty and Mus51...:)
update and underside ( i see my fault :/)

These spits DID spew oil heavily under the fuselage, but the rest of the wings wouldn't be so beat up, in my opinion. Can you tone down the non-oil-stains, and then work on smoothing out the borders on the oil stains?
You'll need to add a bit to the sides of the fuselage, to blend it in, then find the chin scoop and add it there as well. You'll have to check and recheck to make sure the patterns merge in an acceptable way.

I improved.

Looks outstanding to me Kazan.
If thats your first ever skin i'm amazed, well done and I look forward to flying it.

Thanks Bruv119.:)

Definitely improved, but I think you can improve it a bit more. You can still see the borders between the different parts of the skin. I think the general goal should be to make those borders less noticable (right now I can just glance at it and see how/where the skin wraps onto the plane).

First off let me say, amazing work!
I could be wrong but most of the pics I've seen of Zumbach's Spitfire V, BM144 had the under-wing roundels similar to the fuselage roundels... a thinner white circle as well as metal-covered ailerons, not fabric ones like in the skin.

Hah, very nice.
Nah, it was never shameful, just a little tiny bit off.
If I ever find the time to play again and do some more comp art, I may make a USAAF Jerry Collinsworth Spitfire IX.. then you guys can rant at my mistakes heheh.
-
Just send in the updated bmps. Make it clear in the email header and body that this is an update of a previously sent skin.

I did the same with my older pony skins since i made a new template :).

Let that be a lesson not to submit the second you think it's done.
FORCE yourself to stay away from it for 4-7 days. I'm very serious here. You will come back to it with a fresh set of eyes, and spot things you totally ignored previously. NEVER submit until you've had time to "cool off" then look at it again.

Suggest widening the tail band a bit. Looks too narrow. Was the serial missing on this Spit as well?
