Enjoyed them a lot, thanks for posting them. I'm finding I love the 38 a lot; quite an extraordinary bird!

Good fun watching those Murdr. Loved the augering 51s. Not one but two while ya just sat there in, what I must say, was a very 'Corkified' P38 :)

Thanks for the films Murdr; I learn a lot by watching them.

I really had a hard time this year with the night gunnery. It's very hard to see the plane silhouette with the LCD monitor I now have. I tried to tweak the monitor about 5 minutes before rolling film. But when I accidently shut the monitor off due to the hidden button locations, and decided to grin and bare it :)
"in, what I must say, was a very 'Corkified' P38 "
I just watched that in slow motion to see how much I caught the tree by...was flaired a good 15+ degrees off of my direction of travel...brushed it with the fuselage, but caught it with the tailplane about 6" down from the top. Woulda been a nice ringer with a horseshoe :)

Nice Murder....

This is a film clip from the final round in this years KoTH Tournament of Champions. The film is pretty much a duel between kappa and I. Was a good fight, and usually between the two of us equal E the fight could go either way. Today was his day, and congrats on the tournament win kappa.
Notice the use of lag pursuit in this film. In a vertical fight like this, one quick way to lose is to try to pull a lead to aggressively and end up in front of the opponent. Since we are both using lag in order to not end up in the others guns, the fight natually evolves into a slow speed rolling scissors.

Heckuva fight. You must have shot between Kappa's tail booms on that one snap shot where you coulda had em. After that it was all arm bending
Fun to watch :)

I recorded a bit of a non-typical film tonight. No combat but...

I can post it if there is any interest.

Would love to see the film murdr; I'm sure I can learn something about throttle, rudder, and flap use from it:) , hopefully.

PS: What's that, the second time now?

Rgr that,
noelev.ahf (http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/files/murdr/noelev.ahf)
I wasn't running film when I approached the furball, and targeted a BnZing F4u-A1 to intercept in his zoom. As soon as I cut the hog in half, I looked back to see a spit16 600 off of me. I pulled back on the stick and took hits as I flaired. Then I tried to go negative G, and by the planes poor response, instantly knew I lost an elevator. Then I got hit with a 2nd burst, and lost all pitch controls.
After watching the spit overshoot with friendlies in trail, and spending a min scanning the skies and getting leveled out, I decided to turn film on. The only means of controlling pitch absent elevators, is airspeed and flaps. Film is about 5 mins, and I spend all but the approach oscillating the pitch, trying to get a feel for what I needed to do to safely land.
ps. 1 P-38J-25 in AW, 1 N1K2 & 1 P38L in AHI, and a 38L & now 38J in AHII :)

Looks perfectly typical to me :)
Seems like I've done that a few times in the old 38G. But then again I'm always in a wrecked 38:aok

Nice. Not sure if that works on p-38, but on some planes, elevator trim remains functional even after the loss of elevator.

Very nice films Murdr.

I've heard that bighorn. I experimented with it when I lost elevators in a P-38L, and saw no effect at all from trim.
