Title: The Dark Knight
Post by: Raptor on December 25, 2007, 11:20:56 PM
First Batman movie to be released without the word "Batman" in the title... and I can't wait. It's not suppose to be out until July, yet Heath Ledger has already been nominated for best villian of 2008. Just seeing the posters for this movie has me ready for it.

I don't know how he'll top Nicholson.

A "Justice League" movie is scheduled for release by Warner Bros. in 2010.  George Miller is directing, from a script written by husband and wife team Kiernan and Michelle Mulroney.  The powers that be in WB are purportedly ecstatic about the script.

I'm afraid that the latest news from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures is that they have re-thought the plot for this film, and also the marketing for it.   They felt that the movie was way too dark and violent, and did not honor diversity enough.  They felt that only violent hetro single white males would want to go see it.

So a number of last minutes changes are being made right now.   Here is a sneak peek at the new marketing poster, which provides a hint about the movie's new direction:

Legendary Pictures already has "10,000 B.C." in post production, and has remakes of both "Clash of the Titans" and a movie version of the TV series "Kung Fu" in production too.

And they are also bringing the game "World of Warcraft" to the big screen as well.   That has also already started production.

Hopefully he won't try. One thing I really like about the new movies-- they treat the story as if, no matter how unlikely it seems, it COULD be real. The original Batman movie seemed split  -- at times paying homage to the comic book (plus the TV show), but at other times trying to tell the story in its own right. The scene where Nicholson faces down the Batplane by pulling out a cartoon sized pistol shows that split better than anything, and shows how the movie kept spoiling its own suspension of disbelief. It all comes down to good story telling.

The new ones reflect the feel of the graphic novels, to the point of taking the new title right from that original "grown up" Batman comic book. That's what I've enjoyed most about Batman Begins -- it's just a well constructed story, much better internal consistency and better writing over all. Really hopeful this one will continue the trend.

BTW, if you haven't seen it the trailer is available on the Dark Night website. My son (our family movie hawk) showed it for us yesterday, and it looks pretty sweet.

I've got to admit that the new Joker does look intriguing:

The guns on the nose of the new Bat Cycle also look very impressive:

The trailer for Hellboy 2 looks pretty decent.  I won't be seeing ghost rider 2 at all.

As good as any of these sequels and remakes might be, what it really boils down to is . . . there is no originality left in Hollywood, and hasn't been for years.

Its a BIG improvement when they got rid of George Clooney and Joel Joel Schumacher.

I fell asleep in "Batman and Robin" and STILL don't know how it ended.

Just keep the series away from Tim Burton

Tumbler is pretty awesome...but the 89 Batmobile is still my favorite  :)

I think your confusing Burton for Schumacher. The first Batman was really good and the second was too. However when Schumacher took over it became a circus town.

I hope you didn't enjoy Joel Schumacher's, because I'd take Burton's over his bombs.

The Spirit, the Phantom, and the Shadow are also in the pipeline. Probably THE three superhero prototypes.

I don't know. It looks to me like they may be showing too much action in the previews. What is the plot? May be a stinker like Catwoman or Daredevil.

Wasnt the Phantom done already?  what was that Billy Zane movie, way back like 12-15 years ago, purple suit, two nickle plated 45s, white horse, damsel in distress in the jungle, 30's period piece...

Yes. But haven't they also done Batman already? And Superman? Etc. etc. etc.

IMO the Billy Zane Phantom wasn't all that great, anyway.

I like the new direction of the Batman movies. Definately feels more "grown up." I never was one to get into comic books, however a friend of mine was pretty hardcore into them. He told me that the new Batman is more like the comic books, which were apparently really dark.

Maybe the more recent comics but those I read in the 60's were not so dark.
