When your flying a specific plane, do you hunt a certain plane??
Example:
When im flying the P-51D i look extra hard for 190Ds and La7s
When im flying the F6F i look extra hard for ki-84s and Nikis..
How bout you guys?? Any of you get extra excited seeing a certain plane when your flying a favorite fighter??
-
Well I've started flying the 38J now (love it). I look especially hard for ponies, because that's what I used to fly, so I just look for them for some reason. I also look for other 38's, just to see who is the better driver (although I don't see many).

La7's and Spitfire 16's are top of my list for "must shoot down"
N1k's P51-D's are next for being dweebry planes.
Anything else i see in the sky i more or less respect the pilot and expect a good fight.

Interesting post.
Now that I think about it, I'm always on the lookout to kill things that can out do what I'm trying to do in a fight. So, if I'm in a Hurri and I'm trying to spin myself dizzy in a fight, I'm going to especially target zekes.
If I'm in a dora, I'm obviously trying to E fight, so I'm going to target anything that can match my climb and thus neutralize my advantage (usually LA's, and 109K's, Spixteens, and tempests if theyre around)
If I'm in something like a spit 9, which I could potentially do anything in, I just target LA-7's.
-
in an 80th 38G I look for Japanese birds since the 80th was a PTO based 38 squadron.
If I'm in an ETO marked 38, I look for LW birds. If it's MTO I look for Italian or LW birds.
Doesn't mean I don't shoot at anything red, but I'm more apt to turn on the film for a historical match up in hopes of getting a good screenshot too.

i dont remember once you calling WMLute a dweeb for flying a Niki nor do i see you complaining when i kill you in my P51-D

In an F6f I look for anything I can kill, in an fm2 I look for anything I can kill.....basically in any plane I look for something I can kill.
I let you know when I find one. I don't get excited to see any plane, because they all kill me....even the ones flown by numbers:(
-
I look for the planes with red icons. I have noticed if you shoot the green icon planes you die instead. :lol Actually, other Spits are my preferred target.
Oink
-
yep when in german planes i like to kill british and russian and american planes.
when in american planes i like to kill german and japanese planes.
-
I generally fly high eny planes so I look for low eny planes because its all all about the benjamins....err perkies you get.
-
When I am flying my 38 I am looking mainly for jap planes. I also tend to mix it up with other 38s.
I rarely fly anything else.
-
In the FM-2 i look for Zekes and Spits and Niki's, La's are also on the list of must kill first. Mossies are the easiest targets it seems.F4u is the most fun fight if the driver is good.
In the Jug i look for the biggest enemy planes i can find!also P-51's are a favorite target,P-38's as well! i hate any thing i see above me in the Jug tho!
In the p-38 i look for P-51's.
-
I hunt buffs, exept when flying dedicated dogfighters like Hurricane I or 109F-4.

IF I'm in one of the MAs and I'm flying a Hurri I, I'm looking for Hurri IICs.

Comon guys, be REAL!!! Everyone looks to have an advantage over whatever else is in the fight. If you are high in a 190D you are going to BnZ (Cherrypick) and if you're in a Spit 16 you are going to get into a turn fight. So it is reasonble to assume that, in that spit, you would try to get your 190D adversary to fight a turning fight, the fight that favors your ride (if you're smart) and if your Dora is above a Spit16 you will zoom down on him like hell's fury and zap him before he can reverse (for example).
Am I right or is Idealism and fighting a "fair" fight the new rage in Aces High?
:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

ahhh... but I AM a dweeb.
ask anybody.
I fly the niki for a couple reasons.
Top three are
1.) legs (100% fuel and d/t my normal fuel loadout. 46+min of flight time)
2.) ammo (I hate running out of ammo, and it's one of the best de-ackers in the game)
3.) ord (2-550lbs eggs can kill most gv's. gota hit the tiger JUST right, but it will drop a tiger)
I also love how it can dive and not compress untill 470kias ish, and when I take an ack hit, more times than not it's a gear.
I like the fact that it can ALMOST turn with most planes in the game. (zeke's, hurri's and fm2's give me a spot o' trouble tho) BUT I can name over a dozen planes that will out turn it.
It's slow, average climb rate, average roll rate, and only a "decent" turn rate.
I fly the niki for a comination of reasons, but it's far from "uber" and quite easy to kill.
Take away the head on, and the Nik is not really that "Great" of a bird.
But it IS one of the best all around planes if you know and understand it's strengths.
A similar ride would be the F6F, as it, just like the nik, is average in most catagories, and great in none (well... great ord loadout).
-
I don't see anything. One minute I'm in the air the next I am back in the tower.
Where'd he go??? Where'd WHO go????
-
Fly: F4U-1A, F4U-4
Kill: The red ones, although I find a special pleasure in hunting down badly-flown F4Us.
-
To Fly: F4U-1A, Spit IX
Favorite kill is the the 262 driver who thinks that he's untouchable, when I've got the alt to catch them after a dive ...

I love to kill the following when I'm out hunting in my seafire or Hellcat :)
Kawanishi N1K-J "Shiden"
Mitsubishi *A6M5b "Otsu" & *A6M2 "Sakae" *Zero
Lavochkin LA-5FN's & LA-7's
Other then that... any plane w/ a red icon :D

Exactly!! Why I love to kill LA's & N1K's
This is usually the last line of defense people take when their base is being overwhelmed or when they are an inexperienced. I have no problem w/ people who love to fly them as long as they don't use them as ramrods.

I beg to differ sir. Although I will say that the F6F is not modeled correctly in this game. And needs a revision.

I like to look hard for planes with red icons over them.

Well I do find it hard to fight the one's that just run.... but other than that... I pretty much fight anything that comes along. I do however look for japs and other 38s mainly... but I take all comers.
I die alot but the kills even out the feeling........

Hee hee Ghast. I did that to shreck once. He was running down a friendly on the deck in his 262. I was patrolling in a 4-Hog about 20,000ft (Base alt was about 3-5k).
He never saw me coming. :D

When I fly the Yak-9U I look for P-51s and Typhoons.

How do you get the Mossy is the easiest trgt. You killed 4 this tour, died by them twice, last tour you had no kills of Mossies and died by them twice? Tour 93 you killed 1 and died twice. So in 3 tours the mossie has killed you 1 more time then you have killed them. Can't see where you have fought them enough to know, plus the mossy is 1 up on ya for past 3 tours. Not picking on you, just curious how you come up with this deduction is all.

Paraphrasing, it is a jack of all trades, but master of none.
You have at least a fighting chance against any other plane.
Absent any planes, the large ammo loadout makes it a very good ground attack platform. It might not have the pure ordinance loadout, but since it seems I am intercepted before I can drop at least half the time, the cannons help make up for that.
For the original post, usually the only plane I am actively "hunting" is the goon! :D Other than that, I target whatever plane I can catch.
-
I look for any historical matchup in whichever plane I fly.
Lacking that, I target Spit16s and La7s, in that order. (edit: because I perceive them as the most dangerous)
-
If I'm in a F6F I'm probably heavy so I go for GV's until the ord's gone. After that any flying object will do.
If I'm in a 190A-8 I'm hunting buffs but occasionally get distracted by other fighters.
If I'm in a Spixteen or IX (or any other model Spit for that matter) it's all about fighting fighters... any kind and any number.
-
Well I don't know about looking for a specific plane but if you fly any of the following - you may as well have a target on your butt:
a20
b25
p-38
Mosquito
110
Jug
These planes seem to attract the largest conga lines :)
Of course I am talkin about lower altitudes here. It's a different story high up
-
Well maybe, but if you really want a target on your butt (in LW arena) fly an SBD or TBM or any early year ride and watch the enemy really drool and go nuts to come after you. Will amaze you how many will disregard a threat right by them to try and score a kill on one of these planes.
-
Any perk or top tier rides.
...-Gixer
-
Any plane that starts on my 6 and ends up with me shooting him down. It's not really the plane,it's more of the pilot. You cant blame a plane for not doing somthing, you should blame the pilot behind the yoke.
Spit's LA's nik's are all fine and dandy to shoot down but people that are flying them are even more fun to shoot.

well i didnt go back to look when i first started flyin the fm-2,but i do remember i found them to be the easy to kill or at least light up and watch burn. also might have been a lot of assist's ! might have been a while further back than that! since i mainly fly mid war now i dont see many mossies, even tho they are available. without the numbers (i didnt look them up i mean)i guess you might say it was just how i felt about the mossy.
i am also not saying im that good or anything! just my opinion, maybe i dreamed it all, my wife say's i fly in my sleep now, probably shot her down in an fm-2 a few times as well!
FYI my k/d ratio aint all that, in anything so you should probably ignore my post's all together!!
-
thanx SFCHONDO for making me go and look up those stats , ill learn all the kool stuff this place has to offer one of these days! i have been flying the FM-2 longer that 3 tours tho, still it was enteresting to see the actual numbers!
-
I'll target the plane that represents the biggest threat to me. This is usually the highest con in a furball. But, altitude being equal, I still target the plane that I assume is the most dangerous. I base my assumptions, not on the aircraft itself, but on the type of pilot I typically find flying these planes.
If I ran into the following four planes, I would attack in this order...
YAK - I find that the people who fly these planes are generally above average sticks who got tired of the typical "dweeb" planes.
P-38 - This guy is either the best pilot in this group or the worst. I can tell he's good if he starts to engage. Otherwise, he's just flying a light bomber.
Spit - Skills run the full spectrum here. But, because this plane is the easiest to learn, most of the pilots who fly them aren't much of a challenge.
LA-7 - I encounter the worst pilots in these planes. They're used as a crutch plane and most pilots can't do anything but HO/run. I would say 1 in 20 might have an ounce of skill.
All that being said. Certain planes consistantly give me fits...
KI-84s - When I see one, I'm instantly fearfull.
Temps - The dern things are so fast that I usully don't see them diving on me till it's too late.
109-F - By the time I learn that it's not the K4, he's glued to my six peppering the crap out of me.
Just my 2 pennies.
-
I like to shoot down Spitfires, because I fly the Spit 16 myself. I also like to slaughter any P-47 stupid enough to get into a turning fight with me.
-
Been trying out the P40E alot this tour. When in the 40 I love to look for any LW plane to kill.
However, I do try and steer away from the Zero's and F4F's unless I have a distinct E advantage as I have very hard time getting into a low and slow turn fight with those planes.
Fun thread to read JD..
-
lala spits zeeks/zeros
in my yak i look for planes that are very fragile i also look for people that are doing stupid things aka they are new i only do that in my yak because of the limited ammo suplie
-
190a5 i love finding spits and p51s and killing them
190a8/ta152 finding bombers... but i do love a good dogfight in a ta152... can supprise most people with it. Meet a good pilot though, and im stuffed in a the ta152 cos it aint a TnB'er lol
but to be honest, anything red is a target. I hate fighting Spit 16s though., sure most of them are new, but even then they aint easy kills for someone in a 190a5/a8/ta152 or 109g6.
-
When I up in a fighter, it is almost always a C.205, and I love to hunt all those people in their uber planes. LaLa's, P-51's, Nikis, etc. But if you want a specific target, I love to go bomber hunting.
