Title: 353rd P-47s
Post by: Shifty on December 27, 2007, 04:23:47 PM
Since Fencer was kind enough to do some 353rd Ponys, we like to ask if any of you skinners would be interested in doing a 353rd P-47D-11, and a P-47D-25?

We like to leave the actual skin up to the guy who does the work. There are lots of good P-47D-11 skins to choose from.

However we are very interested in a certain 353rd P-47D-25. It departs from the normal OD Green or Silver paintscheme. I'm thinking it's a combination of RAF colors. Somebody like Guppy might know for sure. Below is the -25.

Thanks

Mus51,

I haven't been able to find a photo, just drawings.

I have found other skins for it in CFS

Here (http://www.simviation.com/cfs3_aircraft2.htm)

The best source I can find is a decal sheet at this website

I think there is a color shot of it in "Fighters of the Mighty Eighth" as well

I can check when I get home from work.  Might be more in the 353rd history also.

Not the same bird but another camoflaged D-25 in the two tone green/gray.  I'd bet it was RAF colors.

After digging through my stuff including the 353rd history, it appears we're stuck with two D-25s that appear in photos from th 353 with the camo.

SX-B which appears in this image showing the right side, with no nose art
(http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s199/guppy35/353jug2.jpg)

And Soubrette.  Interesting to note it had full invasion stripes at one point. This is the same bird as the color image I posted above

From "Little Friends" There were at least 5 Soubrette's but the only one that seems to fit is 42-26416 P-47D 350 LH-U Blickenstaff Lt.Col. Wayne K "Blick" Soubrette

And a nice color shot of an early razorback P47D from the 353rd.

Awesome pics Dan!
My Best Bett YJ-H would be another fantastic addition to the 353rd stable. Thanks for supllying all the info.

Another interesteing Razorback Thunderbolt of the 353rd was Col Duncans "Dove of Peace. I hope these links work, they're clear dot, and I'm not real sure they'll come through.

Dove of Peace 1 (http://books.google.com/books?id=ENgFngTp4pIC&pg=PA65&lpg=PA65&dq=353rd+fg+%22p+47d%22+%22dove+of+peace%22&source=web&ots=aVSu25edPu&sig=h5yi2Rt9EcJjDrYfBuMh9VoWPAA#PPA64,M1)

Dove of Peace 2 (http://books.google.com/books?id=ENgFngTp4pIC&pg=PA65&lpg=PA65&dq=353rd+fg+%22p+47d%22+%22dove+of+peace%22&source=web&ots=aVSu25edPu&sig=h5yi2Rt9EcJjDrYfBuMh9VoWPAA#PPA65,M1)

What I find interesting in Col Duncans P-47 is the fact the Black and Yellow nose markings are Checkerboard like the 353rd painted their p-51s, not diamond patteren as the rest of the 353rds P-47s.

Again thanks for all the info guys.

Be nice if the HX H in my photo and Guppy's of the D25 could be done, they obviously flew together.

I quote you on this. I'm trying this skin as practice and the underside of the nose is a nightmare :(

Yes, the checkerboard paterns are quite the P.I.T.A.

I pulled it off, but it was hard, still needs a bit of tweaking. When I get back on my MAC that I do all the work on, I'll post pics of the template so you can see how you've got to stretch & squish some of the blocks...

to more Jug skins :)
