Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, as his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they failed to do in disciplining their children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to get an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals recieved better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife Discretion, his daughter Responsibility, and his son, Reason. He is survived by his three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remeber him, feel free to pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing...

Great post. :aok

yep.. children seem to be the real victims too.. twelve year olds allowed to be given abortions without consent of the parents.
"ADD" kids given powerful drugs to "control" behavior.... How do they define this made up disease that never existed until a few decades ago? why.. oddly.. the "symtoms" are exactly the same as what is the nature of young boys.
PC and nanny state and socialism have replaced common sense.

Is it funny or ironic that a communist is talking about the death of common sense? I can't decide.

That can't be Viking. He must be channeling some dead Republican.

Politics aside, its a neat personification, and well put. Where did ya dig it up?

It's been around for years.

Yeah probably has. I saw it on the web somewhere and thought it good enough to post here. I don't know who wrote it though.

I wrote that, think it was back about 84 or so. I was up all night writing a speech for Ron. I needed more beer and no way could you send Ron out for beer cause he'd forget as soon as he hit the front door. Nancy was in bed (no way was I gonna wake up dragon lady) and so I sent GW out to get some beer. The sap comes back with Busch lite... I said "Boy aint you got no common sense.." inspiration for said piece above... the rest of course lost to history...

I challenge anyone (especially Laserdork184) to quote me expressing a view opposite to what "RIP Common Sense" expresses. The BBS' search function is at your disposal.

Rip and Common Sense go hand in hand. I thought you guys knew that after all these years.
