Being poor, I have an xBox 360.

I loves it, though. I won't compare since I've never even seen a PS3.

As much as I am no fan of Microsoft, I hate Sony even more.  Sony will never see a dime of my hard earned money.  Ever.

do a cost comparison on what you get.

wireless, hi-def, blu-ray player and free online play.

I think when you add all that in, the ps3 is actually cheaper.

I have a PS3 and have played on Xbox360.  I love the PS3.  I think overall PS3 looks better.  Especially considering the Xbox360 you will either want the Premium or Elite package.  That is pretty much the same price as the PS3 40GB version at $400 and the 80GB version at $500.

The ability to surf the internet on the PS3 is nice if you just want to look at something real quick instead of having to use your desktop.  Then the free online play is really nice unlike the Xbox360 service which is $50 but still have to pay for.

I think the PS3 controls are better than the 360 just because they arent as bulky.

I like my PS3 and would never trade it in for a Xbox360.

I have owned the ps1, ps2, xbox, gamecube, wii and now the ps3.  I rarely played any of the other consoles once I started pc gaming.  I lived on my pc.  My pc gaming addiction was a major factor in my divorce.  Thats how much I loved gaming on the pc.

So when my buddy told me I should get a ps3 I thought he was brain dead.  Consoles are for kids I told him.  Its just all cheesy kid games.

Since I bought my ps3 there hasnt been a day go by that it hasn't been on.  I use it for everything.  Blu-ray is fantastic, rockband is a riot and uncharted is jaw dropping.  I love it so much I bought a psp just to be able to use the remote play feature.  Its a full media center, not just a gaming system.

From what it sounds like the PS3 does alot.  I don't currently want one as I have a Wii and a 360.  I have no complaints about the 360, it does alot and plays all my old games as well.

Ooh, keep in mind that the PS3 uses a standard hard drive. Buy yourself the 40GB version and swap it for a PC's 500GB drive. Seriously, it works. :D

I believe they're SATA 3.0Gb/s drives, so all you have to do is open it (hope you didn't want the warranty, though), unplug, plug, boot, and format.

OOZ you would be wrong there, the ps3 uses a laptop SATA 3.0Gb/s drive...... and you can only get those up to 320 gigs on newegg.com I thinks. But replacing the HDD takes only about 3 mins. because all you have to do is open the flap on the side and remove 5 screws.  Also the PS3 will format the drive for you so that is a big plus :aok  :aok
My opinion is, get the PS3 (it might cost more but it is definantly worth it.) and forget the Xbox 360 for now.

Dont worry about it bro, didnt mean to sound harsh or anything.... I just like to modify and tinker with my consoles :) You will also want to get the HDD in 5200 rpms (it is 5000 somethin rpms...)  because the 7200 rpm will be a bit louder.

Sorry drop 200$ more and build a custom gaming computer.

Then sit back and point at all the wounder boys who spend about 500 times that in a single year on replacements controlers internet play & games alone.

And just to wait 3-5 years to do it all over again.

No spankyou.

:lol :lol

I've had a PS2 for 3 years...not had any problems with it, and it fits my needs. When I crave to play San Andreas I just do it. I would rather put money towards a new gaming computer.

I had my PS1 for 6 years. My PS2 is nearing 8 years old now. I just got my xBox a few months ago. My gaming computer's 4 years old now.

Other than games, I've bought three PS2 controllers (2 were replacements), seven memory cards for both PS's (three unused), a battery pack for the xBox, and a 13 month LIVE subscription. That's less than $120 there in my life outside of games and consoles.

That's just it.  For me to get a new gaming computer I'd have to drop more than $200.  The standards keep changing.  For instance.....to upgrade I'd need a new MOBO......with that I'd need a new video care to upgrade to PCI-E.  I'd also need new RAM and since all my old HDs are IDE I'd have to get new ones that are SATA.    That's ALOT more than $200 if you want the good stuff.  Right now I have a box that will play most 2 year old games so so.  Gaming on a console just makes more sense.  Yes it looks better on a PC but I don't have to worry about compatibility issues on a console.

My 360 does everything I want it too and more.  Right now all I use my PC for is office stuff......some photoshop/web design work.....and a movie server.

I'm getting ready to get about 4 external HDs to rip ALL my DVDs onto.  Unless you got the money to spend I don't think it's worth it to keep updating your PC every two years cause the standards keep changing on them.

The only game I'd want a game system for is halo.  Since that's one of the only really popular console games that isn't also released for PC... I guess I won't be playing Halo.

It's kind of stupid really.  If I got an Xbox and halo3, I'd be paying essentially $400 for halo3.  And at that price it would STILL be a loss for microsoft because they're taking a loss on each console sold and have to sell somewhere between 6 and 10 games to make up for each console sold.

On the other hand, if they sold halo3 for the pc, they'd make a profit on every one sold, even if that's the only game purchased by any particular person.

So no console for me, because AH is the only game I'd ever spend that much money on (over time, AH is pretty damn expensive).  I just don't see too many people buying the xbox just to play one game, no matter how good it is.  Which makes it seem pretty dumb for MS to not allow halo for PC to be released until it's stupidly out of date.

I bought the orange box set for the PC...  There's another situation, but done the *right* way.  It's a compelling game bundle, and they sold it for both the consoles and the PC.

I bought mine originally to play Ace Combat 6 and didn't get another game for a long while.

You haven't seen just how many people rushed out to just get an xBox and Halo, huh...I still don't have it. :rofl

Dude, the coolest thing about the wii is the fact that it's "family friendly"  the sports stuff is the coolest.  When I have "people over" IE parties, it always ends up a competition on wii play wii sports or something.

The first night I had the wii the Mrs. Gunslinger and I played it so much the next day we felt like we got hit by a train we were that sore from the movement.  My wife who doesn't do much physical stuff couldn't play for another day or so because she was so sore from the wii play.

The wii is THE BEST game console I've ever bought.

EDIT:  it just sucks that its weak on the processing power front that the graffics are sub-par compared to the 360 or the ps3.

I've played with a friends 360, and on another friends PS3, never touched a wii.

I've owned a PSX, PS2, SNES, Original Gameboy, GBA SP,

Of the three new systems, I'd prefer a PS3 for gaming, a 360 for the Free60 softmod, and a wii for nothing at all.

If I could have anything right now, it's to have my old Snes back, and all my games. :o
(or maybe my PSX, and... games, etc.)

But at the end of the day, I'd rather just spend my money fixing/upgrading my PC...

LOL.  My wife is hot too.......however, when talking about consoles, I don't think the wii could even come close to rendering Assassin's Creed like the 360 does.  HUGE difference.

But I kinda see what you are saying....I think.  An FPS is an FPS on any console.   However, on a wii it adds a HUGE fun factor that can't be achieved any were else.

Post by: Meatwad on December 29, 2007, 08:57:24 PM
Not really into the tentacle stuff, but there is some that really interest me (See games like "Crescendo", where there is actually a good story and plot that goes with it.) Usually involves the character the player controls falling in love with someone in the game depending on what choices (paths) you choose.

Some are good, some make you go BAWWWWW from sadness

And dont forget the dirty scenes also!

wii is basically a gamecube with a neat controller.  graphics run at 480 or whatever standard tv definition is.  It was fun at first but got old.  The games are basically for kids.

now what most people dont understand is the ps3 has a motion sensor controller.  I downloaded a 10 dollar bowling game and its better than the wii bowling game.

I don't play my wii at all anymore.

as far as party games go, get rockband.

I've never played Assassin's Creed...

When I saw it, to me it looked like another Prince of Persia, but I guess I'm mistaken.

I may get it some time...  But right now I'm hooked on *drum roll*

1. Call of Duty 4
2. Gears of WAr
3. VIVA PINATA (filled with fun, FILLED WITH FUN)
4. Halo 3

In the order of which I get the urge to play them.  Strange though... They have always come in this particular order.

I WAS incredibly addicted to halo 3, seeing as it was the only game I had at first.  I got pretty good (But, that games easy)  and then I decided I was bored with it.

Went out and bought Dead or Alive 4 and Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

Both weren't all that interesting, so I sold tomb raider, but kept Dead or alive (because of the arousing female characters)

Then for christmas I got lego star wars.  Which is pretty fun, and very cute, and the humor is pretty great...  But it made you think, and I'm not good at that.

The day after christmas, I got Gears of war, Battlefield 2, and Call of duty 4.

I am absolutely loving the intense, graphically enhanced, off the walls and onto the other type of gameplay that gears of war brings.  Plus the massive, High defenition, action-packed, explosive battles that Call of duty 4 bring.

I would pick Xbox360 any day.  I just hate Sony.

What's funny is I rented that game on my kids reccomendation and then re-rented it for another week.  That was one of the COOLEST games I've played on my 360 that my young children enjoy.  I'm waiting to find it cheap at the local game stop before buying it.

Whatever console you have, you need to get portal.  If it don't run on your console, get it for the PC.

I bought the whole orange box and subjected my computer to the steam distribution / community system just to get portal, and I'm not the only one who did this.  The rest of the titles in the box are just gravy.

P.S...  The cake is a lie.

best. skateboard game. ever!

I was real close to getting a 360.  Most of my friends had them and kept bugging me to get one.  I did lots of research and after my best friend demo'd his ps3 to me I finally pulled the trigger on one.

Both are very similar systems.  I love xbox live.  the sony store is just not there yet and the chat system is still not up to xbox live standard.  The positive is psn is free and I get all the features I wanted as standard on ps3 but cost extra on xbox.

The real kicker was the xbox failure rate.  Every friend I have is on their 2nd or 3rd xbox.

Either way you go on the next gen console you will be happy.

PS3 is for looking at the pretty pictures.

XBox 360 is for warranty repair training, helps you develop skills that will be useful later in life when your appliances and computers need to be sent in for repair.

Wii is for playing.

"orange box" is the name of the boxed set that contains the latest half-life games, team fortress, and portal.  Even with all that, it costs about as much as most other single title releases.  Portal is also sold by itself but it still costs about $20 if I recall correctly.

Portal is... well, you'll need to search online.  Go to EA games or the Steam website and check out the trailer.  It's sort of a puzzle game but it uses the half-life game engine including (if I recall correctly) it's physics engine.  The trailer should tell you everything you need to know.  If you need to know more, a google search for portal will give you more info than you can ever possibly read.

The game is fun and fairly short.  People who are *good* at first person shooters should be able to finish it in one marathon session.  People who have played shooters before should be able to finish it in two or three sessions.  But even someone who hasn't ever played a first person shooter game should be able to complete the game.

It looks good even on relatively old hardware (it looks great on my 6800GT vid card) and it's all indoors.

The game is a bit twisted but not in a gross or sicko manner.  The game has gained a near cult-like following because it's very nearly unique and intelligent.  The only game I can compare it to, and even then it's not a direct comparison, is the original MYST.
