I just think of them being another component of the Department of the Navy.

Well, a lot of Marines have been dying in Iraq, and coming home badly wounded too.
I would not call any of these servicemen or women stupid, even if they do come home in a box.

Yes.

Yes.
Then you will note it was the video that said the "stupid" remark, not me. Thus, my post had quotes around it.

So you think that it is OK to put down soldiers and veterans of the US Army who have fought in Iraq???
One of my friends has a son a year older than my boy, and he joined the Army right out of High School. He got put into one of the new Stryker equipped Brigades ( 3rd Brigade, Second Army Division ), and came within a week of finishing a full year long tour in Iraq.
After surviving two previous IED attacks on his Stryker vehicle with only minor injuries ( he got a Purple Heart from one of them ), he lost his left arm in the third one just days before he was to go home. ( 2 men in the Stryker behind his in the convoy died from the blast ) He spent almost two years in the hospital and rehab, and is now attending the University of Oregon at the government's expense.
So I don't consider comments like the one in the video about losing limbs to go to college at all funny. The video is in very poor taste, in my opinion.
My friend went through a living hell worrying about his son. He was worried sick about him the whole year he was in Iraq, and you can imagine how upset he was when his boy got wounded.
Sorry, but this is not a subject to laugh about. At least not for me.

Great vid. That was funny!

I don't think he meant any harm Sig. He is always real respectful to everyone, especially regarding vets.
I think the video was probably made by some Navy guys getting in their usual inter-agency digs... and even those guys didn't mean any disrepect. Sometimes that kind of joking around is crude.

Here is a photo that my friend Mike took of his son Michael Junior, with his sister next to him, while he was recovering at Walter Reed Hospital:
Here is a photo of Mike ( he is on the left ) as well as his wife ( she is in the middle ), and their son when President Bush and the First Lady came to the hospital to visit the recovering war wounded.
Here is a photo of Michael with one of his buddies in Iraq:
And here he is sitting in his machine gunner position on his Stryker. The combination of the shield on his weapon and his body armor saved his life. Unfortunately, his left arm was sticking out enough, that it got hit. The arm was literally blown right off. Fortunately, he got immediate medical attention, and they managed to stop the bleeding, before he could bleed to death.
Two men also in hatches and thus likewise partially exposed in the Stryker behind his in the convoy, were killed instantly.

And here is a photo of a Stryker out on patrol in norther Iraq:

I'm in the Army, and have been to Iraq. That video did not offend me in the least. Was just some good old humor. Was probably just some good old Navy Boys having fun. It's no biggy.

And as I have pointed out before in this forum, people who engage in name calling are extremely immature, and not emotionally developed. Perhaps, though, you are still in middle or high school, and that would thus explain why you talk like this. And if so, that means you have hope, as your brain will eventually mature in a few years, and you will become more responsible.
Maybe if you cared more about your fellow human beings on this planet, you would not find such base and tasteless humor to be so funny.
I find it offensive, and I certainly have a right to not like it.
If you like it, that is perfectly fine. But don't call me names simply because I don't share your values.

Sometimes its best to keep your mouth shut instead proving to the world what a complete sweetheart you really are.
Sig,
What Texasmom said. I hear you as I have similar experiences. Sometimes its best to take things in the manner intended instead of filtering it your own way. While the video is in poor taste it clearly was not the intent to insult the sacrifices made by many including those in the AF.
-
Your parents made you stupid, we'll make you Army stupid.
I am wising up and transfering to the Air Force after almost 13 years with the Army.
-
I apologise for offending you sig, this was meant to be some light hearted fun. My brother is in the army and has done a tour of both iraq and afghan. This video was part of the banter that has gone back and forth between us for some time because i intend on joining the navy this year.
-
I have friends who are/have been in the Royal Navy and British Army, both unique experiences which will stay with you for a lifetime. The 3 forces seem to have quite different cultures which you will probably have already found out, although whichever service and speciality you choose you will be amongst the most professional servicemen in the world
The RN has made a remarkable contribution to Britain's history for hundreds of years, you will be following a proud tradition if you opt for the "Senior Service" :aok

Sig220,
First off a big SALUTE to your friends son Micheal.
I am the father of two soldiers. Last February 5th my son Thomas lost both legs in Iraq. He is currently home on leave from Brooke Army Medical Center. We've both looked at the video, and both laughed our butts off at it. A laughing "Freakin Sailors"was his response.
I think you're over reacting a bit. Diablo means no inslut against the US Army. The whole thing is a joke. Over reacting doesn't honor Micheal, or any of the other wounded warriors no matter what branch.
I can appreciate how close this may hit home for you, but it's just a joke.
Humor is one of the things that has help sustain Thomas and our whole family this past year. Let a joke be a joke.
Besides, Diablo is a retard. :D

Shifty is right. Diablo is a retard.

I am a retard!!!! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! ('n stuff)

Sig, it's pretty obvious you are not a vet or you would understand the interservice jokes.
-
Well, I am just shocked!
I think EVERYONE who was making fun of Sig and the completely insensitive OP should immediately undergo sensitivity training!
-
WOW lighten up Frances :D OIF1, OIF3, 3ID 3/7INF LMFO found it funny as hell:aok
-
If you haven't been in the armed forces, then such humor goes over your head. It is all natural inter service ribbing. Every year, when I remember I send my Dad an email "Go Army, beat Navy". Then he would reply with something like " go Nay,beat Army". Being an old soldier, I married my wife who is an mother of 2 Marines. Her oldest has been out for several years but her husband is an Marine Reservist who is heading to Iraq soon. And her son will be getting back from Iraq next month.
I had a Ranger friend back at Ft Lewis who would call me a leg a couple of times. And in my flight suit. But I would just look down at my wings and look at his wings and just say that I go on round way trips and he would go on one way trips.

Heh. Actually it seems there's a whole new subject to laugh about. ;)
I know everyone piled on yas .. but ... me too. Lighten up, Francis. :D
When you served (you served, right?) you *did* happen to notice a bit of inter-service rivalry, I take? If you didn't serve, well ... let's just say you're not the first career civilian I met who thought they knew how best to honor those in uniform when they didn't have a clue what they were suddenly and violently offended about.
;)
Carry on. :D
