After multiple reloads of windows xp and windows 2000. I've come to the conclusion that something isn't right. Not sure of what it is though. I've downloaded the AMD optimizer and the windows patch so very many times. After downloading the patch my icons disappeared on my desktop. I had to manually reboot 2x to get them to appear. I followed those instructions posted in this forum to a tee. Still no joy. after a few minutes I get a frozen and darkened screen. I've been to the regedit a bunch too. I think most of the problems came after the first update. Up until then it was as smooth as silk. I've also purchased two Video cards, one Geforce and one ATI. Same results. I've tried using no AV at all. I tried using windows 2000 but couldn't get the VC drivers to load. So now I'm back to square one and hope that the 98/me emulation works. The only other thing I can to do is use Vista. Any thoughts on that? I really wanted to use my duo core processor. I've done more than I posted. I would be banned if I included everything.

I went to windows 98/ME emulation mode. I'm somewhat pleasantly surprised. The system ran really well. Not quite as smooth as the duo core mode but still very good. Plus, no freezes so far. My FPS was around 75, that's a personal best. That new vid card is sweet. My monitor is capped at 75. Sure wish I had gone the easy route a bit earlier. Worked on this system from 9 a.m. Saturday morning to 3 a.m. Sunday morning. Then flew about 1 1/2 hours.
My advice, maybe try the patches once and if doesn't work go the emulation mode.

Some versions of Windows XP appear to not take AMD's patch for the dual core problem.
