Yesterday for some unknown reason I decided to up a Hurri IID and see what I could do with it.
Now I had flown the IID before. I had tried hitting GV's with it back then with absolutely no success so I used it in an air-to-air role with moderate success and finally parked it.
Yesterday I tried the GV thing with it again. My first sortie I smoked a Panzer then finished him off but only got an assist as some mg dweeb had been pumping .50's at him first. I also played evasives against 3 P-38's, a Spit and an La-7 while a couple of friendlies got the kills.
I had to log off but was anxiously awaiting getting back on-line later to try this thing out some more.
Over the night I only flew 2 more soties in it getting 2 GV kills (a T-34 and a Sherman), 2 more assists and finally couldn't resist accepting the La-7 trying to HO me... hehehe. Sadly, his debris collided with me and I had to bail after the kill. I also left a few GV's smoking at the spawns and I'm guessing they .efluffied safely after I flew away.
This prompted me to do some reading this morning. I found that the preferred attack was to dive on the target using the .303's to target then pump 2 40mm's at them. I'll be trying that tonight. I can't wait. I had been using only the 40's leaving the .303's alone and wasting too many rounds ranging.
I love the way you can count off the 40mm's as you fire. Smoking vehicles and kills are very rewarding and it can still turn like you'de expect a Hurri to do. I'm not sure it will replace the F6F as my attack plane of choice but the Hurri IID will definately get more attention. This is, of course, hurting my attack score but I guess I just don't care... it's too much fun!
What's your latest love?
BTW, how many kills has anyone landed in the IID without rearming?
-
Haven't had a new love in a while. My #1 and #2 are the 109F-4 and F4U-1A/D
-
Fly the Hurri 1.. You can't kill GV's but it's soo much fun to fly.
For current new planes, I decided it's time I learn some of the German planes, so I've been flying the 109 A-8.
-
A squaddie recently turned me ont the YAK9u..Very cool plane, and have yet to really find anything much wrong with it,except of course not many rounds.
it is just plain fun to fly for me at the moment.

After posting this I just couldn't wait to try the IID out again. I upped and got 3 GV's on my first (and only) sortie in it. I guess I scared 'em off as they quit spawning :)
I'm still only using the 40's but I've got it down to about 4-6 rounds for a kill now.
-
Yakolev 9-U. Its so UBER in good hands.

I have found myself trying pilot the p38-j on occasion recently... its fun!
-
I like flying the 109's, 190's, P-40's, P-47's, P-51's, yak's, and, of course, every spitfire.
-
I fly mostly American fighters. I do fly Temps 262's and 109's a bit tho.

Hints for GV busting in the Hurri IID:
Set convergence for 400. Hold down the trigger for just two shots just before range ID changes from 600 to 400 and pull out. Shoot with cannon only. Don't bother with the machine guns at all - their hit sprites just prevent you from seeing if the cannon shells hit.
Come in from the GV's rear at a good angle - maybe 45 degrees or so. Aim for just behind the turret, on the tank's horizontal surface.
Pull out after your two shots. Don't bother trying to make any more
Panzers usually die after one pass. Other tanks take more.
Best GV sortee was something like 5 panzers and an M3 for kicks. A couple were miraculous 1-shot kills. It happens.

Why use the 9T when you can use the Hurri or Il-2?
I prefer the Hurri I or IIC myself.

This man is quite correct. It's dominant at medium altitudes.

Ive had good success in Hurri-D with 6 kills landing (of GV's) without re-arm
this tour have these kills:
Hurricane Mk IID 6 7 6 4 0 23
So if base is being attacked and ords are down, perfect bird to ravage the GV's with, along that list is probably 4-5 tigers.

LMFAO

My new ride will be the 38's this next tour. Still need to figure out which model.
At least someone is killing tanks when strafing. I get so pissed when a base is underattack and u see a p47 or p51 strafing tanks. I almost refuse to drop a bomb till that idiot lands or gets killed.
-
one of few things ive learned is if someone strafed a tank with guns, I use the 303s in the hurri to strafe back before i kill it, lands me more kills then assists.

Film of outright killing pls.
As a matter of fact I'll up the tank at a remote spot and let you try.

I will take that offer. ask the bish that where taking 215 on the big map. i was poping panzer turrets left and right with my yak with the 37mm:aok
PM with details i am not on tonight for i will be far to drunk to do anything other then hit the ground :D

My new love is the F4U-1A & the 109K4

B-25h for me. most of my kills are a2a but I have today discovered the joy of popping cockroaches. Also today was diving on a Bish base from 4k. About a 45 degree dive, I see a yak at 3k rolling, I aim for the center of the runway and fire a single shot. Even taters do not fly this long, I am watching this yak and my shot come together for a few seconds, You can just tell its a perfect shot. He wont even know what hit him as he lifts my shot passing his wing, and BOOM!. 2.3k and missed him direct by about a foot. Same with an Il2 a little later hes 2.5k I fire, a friendly attacks him causing him to evade just before my shot hits him. I love that 75mm. Which is why we need an HS-129.

Popping turrets and outright killing is 2 different things.

I personaly started flying the Spit 16 and the Seafire over the weekend and I have flown them ever since.

outright kill them yes you can make a panzer blow up with a yak. i might have film on it not sure tho will look.
-
I like the K4 just for the guns. It's v satisfying to see that big pop fireball hit someone. Obv same goes for 37mm yak but you can actually see out of that one so it's not as satisfying. Blind german ftw! Otherwise Ki84 is a lot of fun... it's always a battle of OH will I turn too hard or will I compress! Finecky bstard to turn on the edge :P

And you do it well.:D

after it first came out I remember several sorties where nothing was taking damage. After hitting an M3 six times with that 40mm and the M3 not even smoking I decided to bag it. I haven't flown it since.

I didn't believe it until I saw / did it for myself. The first two links include kills of a panzer with the Yak's 37mm gun, followed immediately by me smacking the ground. This is in the DA, but I don't think the MA settings are any different. Note that unlike the 75mm from the B-25, this took multiple hits.
(BTW, it is OK to laugh at my awful gunnery, poor angle of attack and general sucky flying ability. I will just claim that it is because I never fly Yaks, and see if you buy it. ;))

We started to try to the 37mm against a T-34. I didn't do any appreciable damage, but a few of the hit sprites looked promising. I can't tell if they are armor hits or track hits, you can judge for yourself. Unfortunately I didn't have any time to try multiple sorties.

My squaddies had film of their own. Rifle used a flat vs. rear attack and eventually got a kill as well. I've asked him to send me the film, and will post it when he does so.

That can still happen with m3s.. 40mm AP bouncing just like Tiger 88mm AP ;)
That being said, the most important change since introduction of the Hurri D was fixing the firing sequence. The 40mm guns used to fire one at a time, resulting in horrible yaw movements. They do fire together now, so you can actually fire more than one shot without losing your aim.

hey target if you practice a little bit with that yak you will kill that pazer with 3-4 hits off that main gun.
on the T-34 you did get a lot of track hits but you did on your first pass throw 2 rounds into the engine. on the last pass you did put some into the turret. you biggest problem in the T-34 one is you had no controll over your shooting you where all over the place. i am in the DA everyday if you would like to perfect that. bro thanks for posting some films on this.
